There's not much in the original article that goes beyond what's stated in the summary, so even if that's true, the thread is on-topic.

Edit:  It's funny that tmp's mod images have become iconic for the Alistair romance!  And well-deserved.  We  tmp7704.

Alistair is fairly intolerant of people who don't meet his chantry based value system.  He treats Morrigan like trash from their very first meeting.  Plus his cunning score is terrible.

Alistair?  No... he's easily the most diffident member of the entire party.

"An Omega Male needs support from time to time"

Or in Alistair's case, always...

Not so spot on imo.

After reading your entire article (and yes, I did read it, KnightofPhoenix!) I can tell you, as a member of the female gender and a member of several Alistair fan clubs, that men SHOULD distill essence of Alistair and sell/use it!
He is sweet , sexy, hard-bodied, handsome, witty , charming (like Maric) , and considerate (in ways men aren't anymore). He is also self-effacing (not the typical egotistical male of this day and age)...though, in the game, he says he has his pride, he follows it up with "Well, some at least." It shows he's not an egotist. It's fine to have some pride but a lot of men take it too far and they end up trying to be ultra-macho. We like our guys to be human and a little vulnerable, but strong when we need them to be.
I don't know why everyone considers him to be whiny. I don't. I believe he is a truely sensitive man with a deep love for the one and only person who EVER cared about what he wanted...for once in his life. And when he loses that person it's hard on him...as Duncan knew it would be. I know this because Duncan took Alistair aside and told him, in private, that he would be going to the Deep Roads very soon; he was preparing Alistair for the inevitable. He knew Alistair would be crushed by his death...and if you can't understand compassion for a father/mentor figure, you're hopeless.

There are more things I can say about him but I think this has gone on long enough and I'll leave someone else something to write about. lol

Alistair is good and wholesome, a white knight in slightly tarnished armor...and a tough act to follow. But he can be followed...he's not perfect and he doesn't have to be.

Oh, yeah...because you asked...I love him as much as I do my husband but my husband has Alistair beat because he's real and Alistair is a fantasy character and likely (in this day and age) to stay in the realms of fantasy.

I DO think chivalry is pretty much dead...but do we really need it? No. But we want it.

Alright, I'll attempt to seriously answer the OP question.

He's just a really good man.  Does it have to be more complicated than that?  In The Calling, Fiona is shocked to discover that Maric the Savior is a good man, the last thing she expected.  It is not unlike the same pleasant surprise my elven and mage female Wardens experience, the last thing they look for in a human man and  former templar.  Is it really so hard to understand that women would want a partner who's gentle, funny, and who tries to do the right thing both in general and by them personally?

Alistair reminds me of my husband. I literately just re-courted my husband all over again. They're both sarcastic, funny, and maybe just a bit naive though my husband is more of a "hardened" Alistair than an "unhardened" one. I didn't truly come to this conclusion until he gave me the rose. It...was so charming and corny it immediately remained me of when my husband did the exact. Same. Thing. To where I declared "Oh MY GOD! HE'S YOU!". Simultaneously it made me feel good to know that no matter what I will always choose my husband.



Alistair doesn't whine to me. He pouts but I would hardly call that whining.



On another note: exorzist, can you tell me why every time I try to post on GreyWardens.com, it keeps saying my post is deleted by moderator immediately?

I'm probably reading too much into this but I don't like how you mention the female obsession with Alistair as if all female players were and only said that many males were obsessed with Morrigan. Alistair is not unquestionably beloved by everyone who has two x chromosomes, you know, and there was a thread at one point specifically for women that weren't.

Because Loghain is my second favorite character. And no, it's Morrigan that occupies first.
And I had Alistair executed in my canon playthrough.
