Can someone explain how to force smoothening edges on nVidia card?
Whatever I try doesn't work. I tried to forve through nViewer (this little app where you can assigh 3D options/configurations for specific game or global settings). Tried the "governed by aplication" in ME launcher, still no go.
I'm out of ideas how to solve this problem. Is it possible? What is required for ME to recognize "I want SMOOTH edges"?
I would appriciate any help.

AA wasn't possible on older drivers but it should work now. What's your driver version?

Just install newest drivers.
Then go to nVidia control panel> 3d settings>program settings>add>MassEffect2.exe>scroll the list down until you see anti-aliasing - mode: select last option and a line under select intesnity of AA ( i see no difference between 4xAA and 16xAA so do as u wish ;p)

I have Radeon HD 5870 and with renaming and then forcing AA through the driver i got no problem, both for ME 1 and 2. Do you get this for every AA setting?

What are your system specs? Would give us an idea of where to start.

Athlon
1,5 GRAM
GForce 7800 GS OC
but all I need is an actual "walkthrough" how do you enable AA in ME2 :/
I red something about forcing some bioshock settings into nV panel and whatnot...

Well there are loads of types of athlons but oh well. You can rename the game exe to bioshock.exe but I don't think the steam version loves it a whole lot
I don't know why you'd want to run a game with 8S AA and only 4x AF
Personally i find games look better with 4x AA and 16x AF.(blurred out textures are too annoying)

Why would you even try AA on a PC that doesn't meet the recommended system specs? AA eats your framerate, especially on older hardware like that.hangmans tree wrote...

Coz my game runs smoothly with high graphics on 1152x864? There goes the theory behind min specs.
So I want to try to run it with AA. If it indeed will overload and blow in my face I'll play without it. But in the mean time I'd like to know how to enable the damn thing.
edit:
And its Athlon 2800+XP

So I rename the exe flom bio folder, or the shortcut from desktop? Then set nV panel to run with bioshock and thats it? What about ME config panel, do I set AA there or leav it on default?

Posté 09 juin 2010 - 11:04
Well you don't rename the shortcut, just the actual game exe in the installation folder yeah.
You only force the AA in the nvidia control panel under bioshock.exe too.
If it wont work after that then you might have to wait for someone else who knows what they're doing

But that's a low resolution. If your PC can't handle anything higher than that then AA is probably a bad idea.hangmans tree wrote...

It probably can handle but the refrresh rate drops to some 60Hz (CRT monitor). That res is fine for me, it dosent bother me much that it could be bigger.
So are you implying I shouldnt try AA? Coz I play on low res?
Did you check the screenshot I uploaded (Rclick->show image for fullview)? You find it that bad?

Well, the trick with renaming is that you rename the exe file of the application to UT3, as the game itself is on its engine, where CCC driver can force AA on the engine only on the UT3, not being able to do so on onther games that were based on the same engine. I'm not sure though if nVidia drivers are working the same way here.

For me (HD5850,10.5) AA is working fine in both ME1 & ME2.

A few points I would like to make:
1) Make sure that your executables ARE NOT renamed. Renaming causes problems for the game's files, ESPECIALLY considering that while the UT3 engine was used as the FOUNDATION for the game, It has been HEAVILY modified. The laws of the UT3 engine do not apply.
2) While I am an AVID ATI supporter, I have an NVidia PhysX card as well and from Forceware 196.21, The inability to force AA was fixed. Ensure that you have selected the game's executable[Read: NOT THE LAUNCHER]
3) After experimenting with many different permeatations of AA on ME2, Including EATM+Alpha, I've noticed that the game simply doesn't like certain AA methods. While supersampling DOES work, The performance hit, Even on a Radeon 5970x2 i7 Extreme, With standard AA i.e. 8x and Supersampling caused my game fps to drop below a 35 average, While I can run the same settings on Crysis and get a consistant fps of near on 120 (vsync).
3) MAKE SURE that in your NVidia control panel, You've set it to override and not enhance game settings.
Finally, THE BEST way to tell if AA is actually working or not, Is to look at the shape of shepard's head and not the walls. Even with incredibly high settings, As I mentioned before, This game simply does not work entirely well with AA, Or, Rather, I should reverse that and say that AA does not work entirely well with the game and from what litle I can see in your screencap, It looks like it is.
You might want to attempt to bump up the number of samples being used i.e. 2->4->8->12->24
Even if I drop super-sampling to AMSAA (Adaptive Multisampling Anti Aliasing) or even straight MSAA (Multisampling Anti Aliasing) and bump my AA filter up to Edge Detect at 8x, Resulting in an effective 24x the number of samples, Whether I use EATM+Alpha or not, I still get jagged lines in some areas, ESPECIALLY on things like the walls and frames of the ship.
If you look at the shape of shep's head, and it looks well rounded, Then your AA is in fact, Working fine.
