I much prefer this sort of plot, character story driven game thanks OP. Not that I mind if they also want to produce a MMORPG, but it will lack any real appeal to me so I hope they also continue to produce new chapters of single player dragon age.

I would rather they keep this game as a single player rpg... We have enough mmorpgs out there atm and BioWare's Kotor mmo looks promising enough. If anything they should just open up the entire world for this game instead of just having zones, that would really make this game shine from other rpgs. I'd love to explore random dungeons in Ferelden or in the other areas that are mentioned but we cannot travel to.

There are more than enough MMORPGs out there these day but quality single player titles seem to be a bit of a dying art. No doubt this is the best game but just because a game is good doesn't mean it should immediately be made into an MMO. There no harm in dedication something to making a quality single-player experience.

there is no way they will make this an mmo, unless the franchise succeeds beyond their wildest imaginations. it is much too difficult to create an all enveloping plot, with so much detail and sense of personal agency, in a persistent world inhabited by thousands.

I think this game has the greatest possibility to become an awesome single player RPG.

Because that is what it is and always will be.

I guess they could use the world as a setting, but the inherently unbalanced nature of classes as well as the general lack of mechanical balance between spells, talents, and combat options leads me to believe the gameplay itself would need to be changed greatly.

I think it would be very interesting if Dragon Age became an MMO. Though I do not see everyone being a Grey Warden. Likewise the world is filled with problems other then the blight. If anyone could make a MMORPG and not cut the RPG out of it then I believe it would be Bioware.

... No, just no. Like, not at all in fact.

The whole point of the game is to be an epic single player experience where you're the big hero, which gets thrown out the window as soon as thousands of people begin playing.

The first shiny new original fantasy IP we've seen in awhile, and people want to turn it into an MMO? Oh please no. This is a beautiful single player world, and I'm looking forward to seeing a lot more of it. As soon as an MMO comes along, the production of singleplayer content by the company involvedd (or even, in that setting fullstop) dries up, and I'd not want that.

Also, the big strengths of DAO are the Characters, the Lore and the nice and twisty morally grey plot/s ... I have yet to see any other MMO prove that they can handle these things in any way, shape or form. (And yes, I have played rather a lot). The closest I've seen to a story driven MMO so far was LOTRO, and even that really didn't have the same shine to it as this. (Yes, SWTOR may make a better job of it, but I don't want to gamble this setting on an unknown).

TL:DR version:

Oh please no, nonononononononono way *puts fingers in ears*

MMO's are the death of singleplayer content.

MMO's require very different approaches to many of the things that make DAO good

(including story, characters and dialog, quest structure, and combat. Prepare for the current lovely system to be replaced by a rather generic actionrpg realtime system).

All MMO's will eventually become World of Warcraft because /that/ is what sells.

Please, don't turn Bioware into just another mmo focused shop, it would be a sad loss.

Just give us a better interface and less overhead and we'll make our own worlds like http://www.avlis.org for multiplayer. Community run, since 2002. No l33tsp33k or griefing allowed!

The community WILL do it, if the tools are available and the multiplayer implementation is minimum as solid for DA:O as it is for NWN1 (after we created persistence with NWNx of course). The toolset for Dragon Age is pretty damned nice... but the area constraints for size make it hard to really stretch out into a multiplayer world setting.

Would that we could have NWN1 size/speed with DA:O graphics...

No to Dragon Age MMO as it would, like many have stated here, require alot of work to be done in revamping the game in its current state. To those of you who are quick to judge about MMOs not being story-driven and a lore killer: just you wait until Star Wars: The Old Republic - that will surely change the face of MMORPGs since its being developed by Bioware and all.

I hate MMORPG players.... Not everything needs to be online. RPG's are about story as much as gameplay so no thank you. The most I can see is a co-op mode for like two people over that it would be horrid.

As a former MMO player I can't agree more with this statement...I don't even won't coop though.  I hate this generation of gamers who thinks EVERYTHING must be multiplayer.

thumbs down .. bioware would have to prove that they knew how to make an mmo first .. and a big choose your own adventure book in the form of a video game , while great for single player, would absolutley suck as an mmog

This game actually is pretty poor set up for being an MMO. Not to mention it's not really in Biowares designs to do so.

Won't happen. EA/Mythic's current MMO looks like it's gonna be history pretty soon. If an established IP like warhammer can't support an MMO, DA:O can't either. Much cheaper to make a single player game.

God no. The market is glutted with MMORPGs. I'll take a single player rpg with a great story arc over an MMO grind-fest any day.

Could this world work for one? Yes. Would it be the best way to take it? No.

Consider this: Would you rather be part of the army, or of the Wardens? Because, being true to the story, they can't just open up the Grey Wardens to everyone.

BG and BG2 have all been great SP AND coop-MP games - so I don't understand why this should not be possible for DA:O, too.

MMORPG however ... I don't see this with DA:O --- however, I definitively see it as a seperate release in a few years - Bio owns all rights for thedas the engine etc. and thus could - if they wanted - make this.

Something like this would be nice - probably included in a future DLC or Expansion.
