Hey all going for my second playthrough with a Sword and Board warrior. So far I have him specced around 32 strength and 26 dexterity. Any advice as to where to go from here? I have all the talents up to assualt in the more combat oriented shield line, and I have taunt. Any must haves I need to get quickly? Can't remember all of my skills off the top of my head but I hope you get the picture. Thanks for any help.
Sword and Shield spec advice.

Keep putting points in strength. You want to fill out the entire shield lines ASAP. After that focus on getting Deathblow, then Berseker (take only the first three). The final spec could be either Templar or Champion. Both of those require a lot of talents and are good for the PC.
In combat just launch Assault, then Shield Pummel, then Overpower and finally Shield Bash. You will be a killing machine. No need to tank unless your party is full of glass canons.

I tend to skip Assault, if the shield does not have bonuses to dmg, And I place Shield Bash on the first attack unless the creature is likely to pass the test. But Pummel is a keeper for most everything.
And I have used Taunt and Threaten only a couple times with any S&S Warrior; just not that important, IMO. I find that Default or Defensive commands in Tactics is enough to proyect archers and mages.

It's better to Pummel first for the stun, then Assault, n'est-ce pas? I usually don't put Bash in tactics (or set it only for targets using a magic attack) because I want to be sure it's available to knock a beastie off a squishy companion, particularly beasties with grab or overwhelm. Too bad the tactics don't let you Bash if not stunned, so the two wouldn't overlap. I also keep Overpower out of the tacitcs if someone is cone of colding.beancounter501 wrote...

Hmm, thanks for the advice all right now my spec is Champion. Should I also get Templar at 14?

I went templar at 7 so I could get access to the magic resist templar armor asap, but overall, I didn't wear the armor much. If your party kills enemy mages before they can do much damage, magic resistance doesn't matter as much.
With warriors, specs aren't really as critical, so you can't really go wrong. Generally, champion is a safe choice. Templar will give you access to templar armor and knight commander armor. Berserker will boost your damage (a good choice for a dps warrior).
With your stats....how surviveable do you want your tank to be? With my last playthrough, my lv 23 templar/champion had base 38 strength/75 dexterity, which may have been overkill on the dex, but high defense is nice as it allows you to almost completely ignore enemies using melee attacks in favor of mages or archers who may have scattershot. 38 strength (42 total through gear bonues) was plenty. It was just enough to be able to equip massive armor and I never felt that my warrior wasn't carrying his weight offensively. In fact, he was getting most of the kills, including killing blows against bosses, which is nice to see, if it's a dragon/ogre, etc. Finishing the game with my tank having 0 injuries was more important than seeing big damage numbers, so I have no regrets with the build.
With talents, usually I go after the defensive shield talents asap and fit shield pummel in where I can just so my warrior has two attacks. I put assault and overpower off until later when I have stamina to burn. Shield mastery/expertise asap, taunt, threaten are the main must-haves, and bravery is nice. After that, then I'll work on spec talents, assault, overpower, and the rest of the warrior talents.
For skills, all you really need is combat training and coercion.

Question from me regarding such a build. Are we actually talking a DPS focused S&S warrior here?
I am always thinking tank, but from a roleplaying perspective I would actually love for my Noble Dwarf warrior I have started to switch from his current dualwield to sword & shield if it's viable dps. I know dualwield is better dps, but I have a human warrior as dualwield already, so in order to try something new.

S&S is a viable dps. Focus on str and the bash tree. Along the way get your dex to 26 for shield mastery. Deathblow is also important. A lot of us have come to prefer this build to the "traditional" high-dex tank - the best defense is a good offense.

Yeah, I've noticed that. Four or five months ago I remember getting laughed at for suggesting that raising strength past 42 (or even 38) was a good idea. I still prefer something higher than min dex, but each to his own.

True, my HMN was builted around SnS with min dex for talents and all in strength.
It turned out a great playthrough cause as you rise in levels the dmg potential becomes greater and lets face it you dont really need a "tank" in DaO

Well thank you all for the help I am going for a more offense oriented build with about 30 base dex now thanks to the fades bonuses (forgot about them when I upped it to 26). I'll continue to plug points into str but how much willpower do I need?

No willpower. Just get the Deathblow talent. Willpower is probably one of the worst stats you can raise in the game.

I'm about to go through another play through in the game as a Human Noble with sword and shield. I'm going to make Templar and Champion the specializations. I usually don't bother to much with constitution believe it or not. I usually just raise str and dex. Since I will be a Templar however, I will probably be raising willpower up to for the fact that it affects Holy Smite.

I'm not an expert on the math, but I seriously doubt raising will is worth it for holy smite. Holy smite works fairly well at base well as a stun/knockdown, and I suspect it takes a LOT of willpower to raise the damage significantly.
