Cool, didn't know that was possible.sinosleep wrote...

you can also use the missile launcher, just fire a rocket from your starting position, it will automatically hit one of the mechs, so that the mech will come to you, kill it and repeat with the other 2. Pretty cheap, but it works.

Edit: I should mention that I used stasis on one of the disengaged mechs and I think it bugged him and kept him from doing anything after the stasis wore off.
Edit#2: That is a very neat trick Sinosleep. Though, to be quite honest, I doubt the waiting is worth an extra couple of crates if I don't want to use the Cain. Besides, using the Cain on that mission is so much more fun anyway, because you have a chance to take down a gunship or two at the same time.

You can always come back to the mission and Legion might be most useful because of his passive and AI hack, if you can burn a mech down to health quickly, Legion can probably keep the mech under AI hack for about 4 seconds (its AI hack cooldown is about 6-7 seconds), that might give you extra firepower to go through the other one quickly enough to get on to 3rd.
YMIRs have very little health (I think maybe 10-20% of total HP), never had much trouble with them with their shield-armor out of the way - Throw for example will knock them down buying 5-6 s before mechs are up and running again.
I'm interested to know if it's possible to CC 3 YMIRs simultaneously; Legion's AI Hacking might help CCing one YMIR (they always attack nearest enemy, good positioning should CC two) with Tali you can perma-hack one I think. Stasis the remaining one

lolol.. but given the expenditure of so much heavy weapon ammo, wouldn't it be better to do it the old fashioned way with the CAIN?

To be honest, I don't think I've ever used AI hack on YMIR so I'm just guessing how long it will last, the fully evolved version is supposed to last 12 seconds but I doubt it'll last very long on a YMIR.
According to the Gameplay thread; your powers suffer a -60% durarion penaly against YMIRs; adding Insanity's -20% penalty: (12 + (20% duration bonus 2.4 = ) 14.4) x 0.2 = 2.88 s not long

I have only done it once, and it was with the soldier class. I had to use stasis, hardened AR, the Mattock, and the Avalanche. I don't know that it would be possible to do it with an adept. I think the best squad mates to bring are Miranda with maxed Overload/Warp/Passive and Zaeed with Squad Disruptor/max Inferno Grenade. It took a lot of tries, and the best I've been able to do otherwise without the Cain is 18.

I've done it with Stasis on an adept once. Cain shot aimed low so it hits all 3 and takes down a gunship or 2. Storm and as soon as the middle one is in range stasis it. Usually the one on the left is trying to kill me and I engage my two squadies on it, usually a incinerate will melt any armor(mordin), then a CC to keep it of me for a second or 3,if there is still armor folow with a warp or reave depending on squadie(thane or samara). A shotgun blast using the stasis bug takes out center one.(GPS), stasis the one on the right, storm at it, GPS. Medigel to revive squad, stasis on 3rd, GPS it. Without Stasis, I guess I'd use that missile launcher trick. It is not like we get an acheivement for it though it would be cool if getting all 20 got us something in ME3.

I don't see where you get 2.88 from?
12*1.2{tech bonus upgrade}*.8{insanity penalty}*.6{ymir penalty}=6.9
Watching Huckebein's engineer video, it seems that AI hack lasted about 4-5 seconds on a Geth Prime.

It depend son the order of operation for thingws like this. Has it ever been answered how these penalties stack and what comes first the penalty or the bonuses.

My bad, but yours isn't completely right: 12*1.2{tech bonus upgrade}*.8{insanity penalty}*.4{ymir penalty}=4.6 s ; explains Huckebein's Geth Prime though Engineers can get a extra 20% duration bonus (passive)
Are you sure the Insanity penalty comes first? You'll get 2.88 using total 80% duration penaly.

LOL you are right, if it were multiplicative (hence associative, so order doesn't matter) then it be 4.6. Safest bet is to test it but I'm guessing your original answer is right. Sorry to derail your thread too :innocent:

We know bonuses come first, but when and how penalties work thereafter ... dunno. I think M14567 is right.

Ironically the reduction may well work in shep's favour for stasis, purely down to that you've got less time to wait before the YMIR does the post-stasis fall of OMGWTFPWNBBQ damage window.

I've seen this done on one of Boz's videos, Stasis'd a YMIR with full
protection (shields, armour) and blasted it with a charged Plasma
shotgun and left it with a tiny amount of health within seconds. I think
with all the shotgun upgrades he could've OSOK'd it that way.

I'm pretty sure I've one shot killed them with the GPS on insanity, but maybe it took some fire from my squdmates right before stasis or right when it came out.

Well I managed to do it xD. After countless tries of kasumi bugging I got the 20 crates without using cain, the missile launcher trick or the stasis damage bug (at least as far I could see).
EDIT: Link to video
Weird - you looked like you bust one of the crates about a minute in.... but nothing happened....

Anyway I think the boxes are destroyed with a script and not with damage itself. On my earliest attempts some boxes were destroyed just by the mech getting in position to shoot, then I used stasis, when the mech came out of stasis it will either shoot while on the ground or not just stay down as usual and the crate got destroyed either way.

Color me surprised. I didn't see any stasis glitching, so MASSIVE props to you. Excellent video.
