Only reason I went with barrier is that I seem to be hit/miss with replacing shield powers with upgraded medi-gel. Sometimes the casting animation (barrier is instant) and only getting 100% shields (barrier will give you 200%) gets me killed so I've been going back and forth on med-gel or a shield power on different classes and playthroughs.

Ditto. Exactly why I decided to take Barrier

P.S. I'm currently working on an extensive guide - should be (nearly) complete this weekend. At this point I only listed all the powers, the important (gameplay & tips section) parts are on their way.

Ah, this should be good; looking forward to it!

Has anyone posted a vid of a sniper adept at all? I'm considering it for my current playthrough, but I want to see it in action beforehand (needed for strategy purposes, along with weapon comparison).

I don't like Sniper Rifles on heavy casters, when you're behind cover and use a power, sniper-zoom is activated. I find that very annoying because you cannot see what's going on around you. On Insanity the Mantis cannot OSOK enemies (thus useless IMHO), Incisor has way to few ammo leaving only the Viper. An excellent weapon, but if you have access to the Mattock, it's almost redundant. Mattock has more ammo, does more (overall) damage, very accurate even at long range and without the zoom effect.

For me it's either the Mattock (AR) or GPS (SG) to be most effective. I've only one video with the Viper: Asari Shepard and the Ardat-Yakshi

Doh, I only just noticed that you converted your original thread from a video collection to an actual guide. Very well done! :)

It isn't ready yet - but I hope to complete it before the PS3 players come in and start asking questions :)

It's a bit more work than I anticipated, but I'll get there eventually.

Not just that - I also feel that power sniping isn't that helpful for the adept, due to the relatively long travel time of biotic projectiles. Unlike the Engineer, that can pull a lot of shenanigans with the sniper rifle, extreme range biotic combos seem both impractical and unnecessary to me. I don't feel adepts have much need for sniper rifles.

May I suggest reorganizing the videos to put those that haven't been modded near the top?  Those are going to be much more helpful to new players than, for instance, the solo videos.  At least indicate which videos have been modded and which haven't.

@Boz

Really nice work with the OP. Thanks.

I read in the other thread that there was some problems with the Quarian crash site mission.
So, being the Adept my least played class (I'll fix that someday;)) in a shameless move, I made this vid. I apologize for the clumsiness there.

It's a 30 lvl Shepard. No heavy weapons used. Just Throw, Pull, Warp and Vindicator. I took Samara and Jack

I think it boils down to positioning your squaddies, making those damn Varren to take the long path or get stuck for a couple of seconds trying to get through.
I hope this helps.

Great video jwalker! I'll add it to the OP.

You've proved that with common sense those fights are easy. Picking and positioning squadies with thought and having a decent tactic in mind can and will make most fights very easy for an Adept.

I'll hope you've developed some taste for biotics; Adept is very cool ;)

Cool video. Is there any particular reason you chose to use the Vindicator? I only ask because I've been doing some testing for my new playthrough and, for some reason, when I directly compare them, I'm finding the Vindicator easier to use to it's potential than the Mattock. I'm assuming it must be the burst-fire/headshot combo along with the fact I'm playing on Normal....

Thanks.

Why not the Mattock ?
Here, the Vindi is more than enough. If I had had to deal with stronger foes, I would have considered using the Mattock.
Also, I'm lazy, so tapping the mouse like a maniac to make the most of it, is a factor for me xD
Some people still complain because it's DLC, you know, like 2 bucks.
Finally, I like the looks of the Vindi better. I'm shallow.

This is where I was surprised. I've never actually compared the Mattock to the Vindi in a straight level-for-level comparison and, bizarrely, I found that I seemed to handle situations slightly faster thanks to the Vindi's burst-headshots. Overall DPS was still well in the Mattock's favour, but I found it more difficult to use the Mattock to it's full potential.

It just wasn't something I was expecting. The way things stand, I'll probably be using the Vindi for my next playthrough.

Finally, I like the looks of the Vindi better. I'm shallow.

That too. I'm sick of using rifles with all sorts of goofy colour schemes. :D

I started an Adept and I really have a lot of problems with her. Of course I can play through Insanity (just finished Horizon) but it's not that much fun to be honest. I have died so many times already it's not even funny any more. Yes I know, things will get a little better with more upgrades and stuff but I have played other classes that were much easier and much more fun. Every other class I played had far less problems. My latest Assault Sentinel is just running through Insanity without any problems at all. I even felt like something is wrong at times and regularly checked if I was really playing on Insanity. I might have had a few deaths on the way but it still seems like 2 completely different world. I'm just rushing through the levels and I need 3 or 4x the time with the Adept and it's no fun. I don't know... I can see the Adept's potential and I like the effects of the powers but compared to the Assault Sentinel the Adept feels like a little baby. Also if you compare it to my Infiltrators, Vanguards or Soldiers... I didn't have such a hard time with any of them. I guess I'll continue playing this char but it's going to be tough.

Yeah, Adepts are slow learners, but once matured they're very powerful. When you get through Horizon, get the second and third biotic damage upgrades asap (Illium, Tuchanka and Firewalker) - the extra duration and cooldown reduction make a huge difference (don't neglect the Adept passive, I always go for Bastion (first power maxed) - I love the extra duration). Bonus weapon is great too, you can unlock the Disabled Collector Ship mission with 6 squadies and 5 mission/assignments. I usually recruit Mordin, Jack, Garrus and Grunt > Horizon (upgrade 1) > Illium (2) > Firewalker 1, 2 and 3 > Tuchanka (3) > complete Firewalker (4) > pick up Zaeed and Kasumi > DCS unlocked = bonus weapon can be used in ~80% of the game.

Sentinel, Vanguard, Soldier and Infiltrators are at ~80% of their potential with maxed unique power, Adepts require more time to evolve. I highly recommend to keep going and remember most videos are recorded with the duration bonus, cooldown reduction and bonus weapon. Adepts will be in a league of their own around level 15-20.

Good luck :)

Mine was already at level 16 or so when I got to Horizon. Imported 60 char + the bonus XP you get since the second playthrough and I tend to do a lot of side missions and errands for the crew or other people first before I even really start playing any missions so that I have more abilities right from the start. I just retrained the Adept and changed some things about the points. I maxed out singularity way too early I guess. Like you said: most classes are at 80% once the unique power is maxed out. But it was pretty useless with the Adept. I also took Barrier as bonus power now for emergencies and just made a testrun with the "new" Adept in Samara's recruitment mission and it was already a lot better than all the previous missions. So I'm not giving up on her... as I said: I like the powers and can see the potential, I guess I've just played too many Sentinels, Infiltrators and Vanguards already :)

So hey, someone pointed me this way to post this, hope it's cool with you all.

I'm working on a series of video guides for the adept, sort of as a way to celebrate finishing my insanity run with it. I play Barrier/Bastion, which I understand is a little less typical or popular.

anyhow, link to the first one above (covers intro and look back to me1), finished the second today (me2 gameplay basics and how they affect the adept), got a total of 8 short vids planned (4 min. each, approximately) and if you like, I'll keep you updated.

Anyhow, adept needs more attention and love. just trying to represent. :D

Yeah Adepts rock, always cool to see people appreciate the class despite how it affects Insanity.

And about time we saw some vids aswell not seen any new ones for a while (looking at you Boz :P). Joking aside I look forward to watching the rest of your Adept guide so cheers for making them.

Did some more testing... it's a fun class but I also started another Vanguard afterwards and it's really frightening how much easier everything is with this class. Or with the indestructible assault sentinels. Or basically any other class except for adepts... But I will do some more experimenting, this is my first adept (which is funny if you consider how many chars I have already played and how often I have beaten the game). But many playthroughs were last year when I still had my Xbox but only a laptop. Now I have a decent PC again and can bind all those hotkeys the adept needs. Wanna know the main reason why I decided to play an adept? Because I absolutely love the looks of the blood dragon armor and I don't like it on my sentinels

The sentinel is virtually indestrctible.  The question is does that seem like an insanity difficulty to you?  Seems to me the sentinel is the class playing wrong since it trivializes insanity.
Sometimes I have it easier as a vanguad(tali recruitment boss fight for example), but I'm more of an adept player so I usually find it to be the easier class.  The key thing is learning how to use singularity as a pinning power, and how to use squadmates to strip defenses so they are victims to pull etc.  Things like the GPS really help if you are having troubles.  While I prefer shotgun adept, the GPS feels almost broken to me so I try to avoid it.  Stil if you are having problems it can stip defenses with a single shot after a cuple upgrades.

@ Korjyan: Yes, Sentinels are easier to play on Insanity, their (Assault) Armor makes them very hard to kill. Although it can be fun for a while, for me it got old relatively fast. I like risks and I don't mind dying much. CQC/aggressive Adepts are hard on Insanity. No room for mistakes (without Barrier Adepts don't have an emergency button), one false move can and, most likely, will get you killed. Some think this is bad, I don't, it's how the hardest difficulty should be for all classes. The harder things become, the more satisfactory you gain by beating the game IMHO.

Great videos (this is the 2nd) - I'll add them to the OP with permission when you complete the series.

Loved the voice work, for a moment I thought I was listening to Christina herself. Well done, I'm looking forward to the next.

LOL, I started a new NG+ run yesterday (shotgun bonus weapon). Gonna give Shockwave another try thanks to Thisisme's video. I've recruited Mordin and Jack so far, but the Omega slums and the Purgatory have proved to be earthquake resistant. If I stumble on something cool I make a new vid.

Bring Miranda with heavy overload on grunts recruitment. It's of ledges to finish off blue suns with Shockwave. I suggest you don't go more that lvl 3 Shockwave though.

It's not just the Sentinels though. I never ran into that many problems (aka deaths) with any of the other 5 classes. I can rush through Insanity with all of the other classes. Not as aggressively as with the Assault Sentinel but still way faster and more aggressively than with the Adept. The again I've played the other classes more often so that might also be a factor. Well, who would have thought that after more than ~20 Insanity playthroughs I still find a challenge in this game by choosing the Adept.

I'm still not sure about the weapons training... Assault Rifle or Shotgun? I usually picked shotguns for all my characters but with the Adept I'm not so sure because I hang back more often. But this might only because I still have to learn how to play it better. Unfortunately I can't watch most the videos posted on the first page because Youtube refuses to let me watch them due to copyright crap (probably because people tend to put in their own music). Any recommendations why I should go for AR or SG (like things I don't think about right now like because I don't know the Adept class as good as the other classes yet). Also note that I never use Heavy Weapons (I edit them out) because I like to switch weapons fast (I'm not a fan of pausing the game) and also they look bad on the back of the character model.
