I was at one of the big box stores today and picked up a new copy of Dragon Age Origins, and went about my day (it was on sale for $40, so why not, I have no concept of saving money ^_^ )   Went home to install it onto my ps3, and noticed currently the PSN is down.  I can't put in the shale and blood dragon armor code, that's fine, the server is down.   However as I tuck the code sheet back in the case, I noticed that the codes had already expired.

My questions are, one which is obviously answered, is that they won't work right?  Right.  I assume these were part of the initial copies made, and that's fine.  I have the PC version, and I'll live without Shale :pinched:, but are any future copies made for any version going to still have the stuff on the box saying free things?  People tend to ignore the fine print

Well I bought a PC version recently with codes that had supposedly expired, but they worked all the same. I'd suggest giving it a go anyway.

We've extended the life of codes in new purchases, so they don't expire. It should register fine.

Yeah it ended up registering, just waiting for the PSN to stop being messed up to actually be able to download it.

Unlocking saved data
Fixing ps3 framerate and freezing

No word from Bioware for ages and it would do the company a lot of good if you showed you're on it:

Folks, Victor's job is to report back on what we, the DA:O customers are saying. It doesn't mean he can suddenly comment on everything, because he might not know, or he might not be allowed to tell us. As for the save data, one dev already commented earlier that it was a requirement from Sony that the savedata be locked and they can't do anything about it. So to repeat his suggestion: If you want that to change, it's Sony you need to go pressure.

I don't know where you obtain your information regarding the particulars of his job, however a "Community Manager" is often the person in charge to handling back and forth communication, creating hype and managing expectations

We are asking him to comment on specific issues that should be addressed, and if he needs to get clearance or status updates we are only encouraging him to do so.

As it has been mentioned already, the person who said this is either misinformed or misleading, as there is no requirement from Sony to do such thing: this is evidenced by the hundreds of games that do not have copy protection on saved data.

Please join us in our ongoing request to Sony to forbid game developers and publishers from cutting corners and implementing copy protection or physical console check against save data as means to prevent trophy manipulation.

Let me repeat my suggestion of another thread: Maybe you should read the threads that I pointed towards before you make comments that have been debunked.

Why would BioWare lie about it, though? For all we know it could be a case of them getting a more restrictive manager at Sony than some other companies. Or it could be a recent policy change, seeing as Sony decided to completely remove a major feature of the PS3 when someone revealed that you could, potentially run pirated games via a hole in the OtherOS option?

I don't know, I don't work for Sony, but I do know that overly restrictive is sadly their moniker - rootkit scandal, anyone?

I do not know why they would lie about it, I have stated they are either misinformed or misleading.

Sony requires studios to have security measures against save file hacking (as means to hacking the console) and trophy exploiting. By no means do they impose on third parties (or second or first) to have copy protected files. These are choices of the developers/publishers.

Games with contemporaneous releases to Dragon Age in the same jurisdictions have no copy protection, instead optioning for ID linking of trophies. The same is for post-DA releases so all evidence indicates there is no corporate policy that forces this either before or after DA.

ID linking of saves is a very easy to apply solution that has obvioulsy been misunderstood or deemed unworthy by Bioware, to the dismay of all of us users who would like to have some control over our time investment in gamesaves. This should be corrected with a patch as soon as possible, as it was done for Sacred 2, WKC, RE5.

There is no "this manager says this" policy, agreements between Sony and EA are handled on documented basis and it is highly unlikely that there are random differences taken as rules because of a POC opinion. It is also highly unlikely that Sony demans of EA different copy protection than that they demand from other third parties, and it is most likely this is related to corner cutting and preventing DLC sharing.
