Ok so, my first character was a mage, and I was always kidna ticked off that whenever a cutscene came around he would always whip out a Sword to "finish" off the boss/enemy. One time I swear he pulled out a 2 hander.....  But lo and behold I was SOO happy when I got around to the Final Enemy in Awakening and instead of whipping out a Sword this time he in fact casted some Lightning Ball thing and threw it at "it". I have watched a video of someone else's final fight in Awekening as a warrior/rogue not sure. But they did something different than this, so I'm thinking they decided "FINALLY" to give the Mages the ability to do a cool finisher. Plus I was super extra happy because it looked like Lightning, and my Mage started with a focus on Lightning.

WARNING - Since this is a no spoiler thread I will link to a screenshot, but please be aware that this screenshot has the Final Enemy from Awakening:

The timing is slightly off, and also Tempest was going off around "it" as well. Which actually adds to the effect.

Anyone else seen any occurances of this, aside from Awakening's Final Enemy, or have any gripes about their mages randomly whipping out giant swords?

I usually played an arcane warrior, so it never bothered me.

In the case of Dragon Age's final boss you HAVE to be up close and personal, for obvious reasons.., but, that said, it's cool to see that they've added in a mage specific finishers... though it probably wasn't the best idea to post that screenshot in the no spoiler forum.

Yeah it did seem a little silly to me when i played a little female elf mage never using bladed weapons the entire game then suddenly grabs a giant two handed claymore and awkwardly charges the Archdemon.

Yeah I figured I would be a little iffy, but I hope the huge warning deters someone if they haven't completed Awakening yet.

Yeah after my Mage got to Arcane Warrior, it was a little easier to bear with but I still kinda wanted to see something be completely frozen and shatter, all epic like. Or something cool. I spent some time looking for other players video's and it seems that this Finisher/Deathblow is the same for all Mages. I also believe that any Warrior/Rogue gets their own Finisher as well. But, they also do the same thing no matter what.

Yes I was really happy that my mage got to use the spell at the end too. What made it even better , was the fact that lighting was actually the last spell I cast, I hope they incorporate mage finishing attacks for the DA2.

I also liked this moment, although my mage actually specialized in fire, nature and entropy and had no lightning spells.

At least it looked fitting, unlike stupid moments in DAO when a mage uses two-handed sword instead of just popping enemy head with a fireball.

I can't remember if my mage got that scene at the end or not. I never saw just a random in-combat finishing animation on my mage.

Yeah, I wish they had some. Maybe in further expansions/continuations of the game. But at least they gave us something cool in Awakening!

The next thing they need to do is introduce the Mage equivalent of "Force choke" into conversations. Then all will be right with the world. :D

Mwahaa. I would definitely laugh at that. Or at least do something small like allow the Magic skill to influence Intimidate (ESPECIALLY if you're a freaking Arcane Warrior)!!! That would be so funny though. Or if you're not an AW you could use magic for persuasion ("These are not the droids you are looking for!")

That would be great. It would make sense for blood mages to be able to do this as blood mages can influence the minds' of others. I would laugh though if they did a force choke equivalent. That would be hilarious. Mages FTW!

Yeah, with everyone being paranoid about mages you REALLY think it'd come up a lot.  I'm pretty sure there's an Intimidate option at the begining of Origins that says something like "Doing you really want to fight a mage?", but that's one line throughout the entire game.

On the topic of the thread, it does seem kind of silly that mages pull out random knives/swords to kill people in cutscenes rather than actually using magic.

Yeah I was thinking about that last night. They should have included some Blood Mage version of Coercion based influence. God I wish I knew how to mod the game, I would totally try to include that. Because I know that several times in the game and in Awakening they give you special dialogue options, if your PC or a companion is a Blood Mage.

It's funny the things you think of now that you play through again as a different character type, but yeah everyone in the game is so frightened of Mages, especially Maleficarum. Plus you get the talent Blood Control soooo why can't that be included in the bagillion possible dialogue options throughout the game.

-Let's see, you could base it like Coercion, but it's a passive part of each level of Blood Mage spells/abilities. It would have to be based off of Magic and/or maybe a bit of Cunning.

But there would have to be downsides, like I'm sure Alistair, Lelianna, and Wynne would have to disappove of using Blood Mage Persuasion. Zevran, Shale, Sten would have to be neutral or possibly positive towards using it. Morrigan would absolutely enjoy using this ability.

Lol if anyone wants to take my idea, feel free. I just want credit lol!!! I know next to nothing about the toolset otherwise I might give it a try myself.

As I was playing an AW, I was fine with swords and stuff, even though I stayed clothy most of the time. The finisher in Awakening just made me groan. Never touched a lightning spell the entire time I played. I know that's kind of specific and a tiny thing to whine about, but it was just one of the many small things that broke immersion for me.

Yeah I kinda figured it would be that way for some people. I personally take Lightning off of Morrigan every time I have her so far because (first time cuz my PC mage was the Lightning User, and 2nd cuz she needed a freaking healing spell cuz I am playing on Nightmare).
Which begs the question, wonder why they didn't make it look like some sort of Arcane Ball, or just multi-elemental ish. For instance it could have just been a glowing sphere of energy, and made it the same color as the arcane spells which are blueish for their spirit damage. But who knows. I think it was pretty cool, but I'm biased on the Lightning awesomeness.

On another random side note: did anyone ever get any funny screenshots with the Keeper spells going off for any reason I have one lol. A companion was on fire from the fight that just happened, and I had the keeper spell on. I'm sure there's odd captions just waiting to happen for this one.

OMFG! They listened!!!! I just started the demo for Dragon Age 2... I am having an eyegasm!!! THEY FREAKING LISTENED!

Sorry I'm freaking over here. Anyway, started the demo choose the female mage Hawke. First minute of cinematic: lightning bolt assination (then mischievous hands saying F yeah I just did that), close range lightning spell, fire spell, and walk through hurlocks and BAM basically a Scorpion from Mortal Kombat style fire fatality!
Then you get to the next run of them, and say you'll take care of them, AOE fire spell, like fireball I guess.

Then omg not only can you do regular attacks with your stave, you can do them with your hands, in both long and short range!!!!!!!! I can not wait until next Tuesday, already got my pre order in. Plus it's 3 days before my birthday. What a great birthday coincidence! I FREAKING LOVE DRAGON AGE 2, so far!!!!

Well... that's cool. Apart from the magic attacks looking like doing a revue dance with sticks.

Yeah I played through it a couple of times so far 1 male mage, 1 female mage, and 1 female rogue. The way they "dance" when basic attacking with the staves is a little over the top. But at least to me it makes it more believable. Before it was just "I'm standing here and fire bolts are popping out of my staff..." At least now it makes it seem like they are actually putting effort into even the basic attacks. I love how they also use the opposite end as a close range weapon! Can't wait for the full thing to go absolutely nuts with my first run mage!
