I would expect rogues to be the weakest characters at the beginning because they don't start with any weapon specific combat talents as default and don't have magic attacks.  Personally, if i were an archer rogue I would immediately get combat training I and the talent which lets you not be interrupted in combat, with any extra initial talent and skill points points or if there aren't enough with my first level ups.  There seems to be a lot of combat in most of the origin stories and without a full party (assuming you don't get a bunch of temporary npc's, which I think is a safe bet in at least some of the stories, like dwarf commoner) you probably will wind up in melee more than you like.

Traps/archery/ranger/combat stealth as a longer range goal, and you'll probably have a ton of tools to keep mobs away from you, or get away, once you're higher level.

I wouldn't worry too much about mages as an archer rogue.  Mage spells seem to be medium distance, you outrange them, and the devs have stated that archers are the best mage-killers, even better than rogues.  Stealth in, set up your traps, withdraw out of their range, fill them full of holes, withdraw firing as they close and trigger your traps.

Warrior archers should work fine too, but I tend to see that more as a sideline - shoot till enemies get into melee, pull out sword and board, and go to town, with tons of initial agro gained.

All this said, my first rogue will probably be a dwarf commoner, and she'll be a dual-wielder, just 'cause I like the image better.  Save the archery for my dalish elf.

The second rogue would be split between dual-wield and archery talents and would be able to hold his own in melee with the help of Lethality (level 8) and Evasion (level 12). Then I'd have a warrior and a mage. With this setup, it would even be viable to have 3 archers (1 primary and 2 secondary) and max all 3 archery branches in the party.

Well, a new video at Gamestop makes rogue combat looks quite potent, placing the warrior before and the rogue behind the opponent.  Dual-wielding *looks* cool, too.

Beware: videos are *spoiler-ish*.

Rogues do get more skill points for skills: coercion, stealing, trap-making, herbalism, poison-making, combat training, and combat tactics.

The archery trees are talents, and rogues do not receive more talent points than warriors.  In some ways it might be more difficult to fill out the archery trees for a rogue, especially if you want lock-picking talents also.

I was thinking Stealth would be big help. Sneak in place Trap back up and attack with Bow. Only Rogues get Stealth right?

Rogues get more useful specializations for an archer.

But assassin is only really useful for the stat bonus... the talents are centered on backstab and the Mark is relatively close range.
