Dungeons and Dragons. Back when it was in the little booklets with rules that made little to no sense (thac0 anyone?)
Pencil and Paper D&D. That was my introduction to RPG's

A LOT of these I don't know if I'd even classify as RPGs. Some of them are more action or adventure games with RPG elements.
I didn't read anything in the op's post that implied that hybrids were off-limits, so that's why I went with zelda (nes), which is considered to be an action/adventure/role-playing game.

I dated a fella that had Baldurs Gate so i started playing it, I had no understanding of the D&D system of abilities or scalign or anything, but I began to love that game so much, I played every type and race of character i could make, I totally got into rpg at that moment. I do not consider Diablo or Hexen as role playing, they were in truth my first ever pc games, but not an rpg i think>?
I consider Diablo an RPG because it holds many MANY of the same elements as any other RPG. Zelda, however is borderline imo.. That is about the only one I've noticed in this thread that I, personally, would consider more an action/adventure game rather than an RPG.

DnD: Tower of Doom in the Arcade. course, i didn't understand why it would say things like "you have reached 10th level" at the time (i was 9 or 10) and it was pretty much just a fancy beat-em-up anyway.
God, how many quarters did I waste on that cabinet when they had it down at the local 7-Eleven during summer vacation with a Wild Cherry Super Slurpee at my side?
I remember being 13 years old and thinking the Elf was smokin' hot with that butt-length medieval miniskirt.

If you manage to find this game and make it work, it's worth a try, assuming you can ignore the early '90s graphics.
