I guess it was Final Fantasy VII, but I always think of Dungeon Siege as my first, then Morrowind.

Zelda on the SNES was probably my favourite game until I got a PC.

Final Fantasy VII on the PS. It's still the only JRPG I've ever really liked.

VI (on SNES) was far better.

For me, Dark Hearts of Uukrull, on 1990.

It would have been Phantasie by SSI via a disk drive for the Atari 800XL.

My first RPG (and video game in general) was Pokemon Red. For several years, Pokemon was the only series of games I played. In '02, I played Kingdom Hearts just for the Disney characters. After play Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories in '04, I decided to try out Final Fantasy X. I sucked and sold it. Don't remember much after that, except I eventually got Final Fantasy VI Advanced and loved it, causing me to collect all of the other main series Final Fantasy games. I got the Chrono Trigger DS remake last year. Played a little then lost it. I found it a week or two ago and beat it yesterday. (Yay!) I rented Mass Effect when it first came out, but wasn't good at it and didn't really like it. At the beginning of January this year, I decided to rent Dragon Age. I loved it and bought it, making me decide to buy Mass Effect (in late March) and give it another shot. Loved it also. So I got ME2. I bought KotOR off Steam in April (haven't gotten to play much) and happened to find Jade Empire at Half Priced Book for a few dollars.

Not sure why I felt the need to explain my entire gamin history, but there...

I feel so old here, the point that my first RPG was Wasteland makes me sad at how old I am :(

Someone here mentioned Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord.  Depending on what version they played that potentially beat Wasteland by nearly 10 years.

Then again I have the NES version of that which was actually released after Wasteland.  Man some cycles are strange.

My first rpg was when I was a kid and I didn't even understand anything. It was called Dark Stone and the camera angle sucked so much in that game it was too hard to play.

Oooh... Wasteland was a good one, though hard.

I still remember the line I found written on a gravestone in the game, in some cemetery:

"Leslie Moore, killed by a magnum 44, no less, no more"

Haha, same here! Shining Force 2 and Phantasy Star 4 for the Sega Megadrive / Genesis, when I was around 10 years old I think. Aaah, good times! Actually Shining Force 2 is easily in my top 10 favourite rpg games list I've ever played and It's the game who made me a "hardcore" rpg fan. Dragon Age is in this list of mine too.

I think it must have been "The Seven Cities of Gold". Although many might not actually consider it a pure RPG, I certainly played it as one. :)

I love that game.  I still have my copy.

The mechanic for hiring replacement party members (if yours died and weren't successfully resurrected) was really clever.

Hell yeah.  Screw all those Super NES fanboys and their Final Fantasies!  Shining Force is a real man's RPG.

My first glimpse of an RPG was Wastelands that my older cousin played. Then I watched Eye of the Beholder, which was played and finished by my best friend's older brother. My very first RPG I played was Bladur's Gate. Then everything fell in order:BG2-->Icewind Dale-->ID2-->Lionheart-->Diablo-->Fallout-->Fallout 2(I really liked my hunting rifle!)-->Kotor-->Kotor 2-->ME-->ME2. I'm a Bioware/Black Isle guy!

The first RPG I ever played was the D&D Basic Set, but I assume we're talking about CRPGs here, so it would be the Legend of Zelda, back when I was just 10 years old. (Gosh, has it been that long??)

First: Pokemon Red

First the I enjoyed: KoTOR

(Not to imply that I dislike RPG's, they're pretty much all I play, just that I was never particularly fond of Pokemon games. The show was good though)

Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. Though games like Fallout 2, Deus Ex, and Planescape: Torment got me into WRPGS. But I still liked Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. I was a Mario fan at the time. I still am.

I played pokemon red(it's every bit an rpg as anything else), but that was when I didn't even know what an rpg was. After the that came Baldur's Gate and since then I almost exclusively play rpgs.
