 Holy Maker!  I go off the radar to concentrate on studies and suddenly this thread has moved over 100+ pages!   So much amazing writing and artwork, and even a DOLL!!! *wants to glomp the Broody Doll*  By the Creators, I'm going to be spending most of the next week picking up where I left of (at page 50-something...) o_O

Avilia, you may be right about the companion part.  If you look in the below image, there seems to be some human character fighting in the background with the same hairstyle as Nate.

Zev is often drawn in the green Tier 4 leather armor he's wearing when most folks recruit him.  So a blond wearing green in most DAO fanart is usually him.  ...I had the same thought, figured I was probably wrong, but had no idea who else it might be.

Good question I don't see it either. But I'm still thinking there's a good chance that's him, he just might not be initially assigned as an archer. Remember when Awakening was first coming out and all the gameplay previews showed him to be a DW Rogue? Even his epilogue slide at the end showed him as a DW Rogue. Maybe he'll act as a warrior in DA2?

I'm still waiting for the 'zing' to hit me for DA2. Nate would do it nicely. I like it well enough so far, I suppose, but its very 'meh'. Oops - better not tempt the wrath of the mods by dissing DA2 in the DAO forums.

I saw Nate's VA in the movie Centurion. He has a bit part and it's not very Nate-ly, but I squee'ed nonetheless.



I know he's on the telly all the time in the UK, but we are Simon-deprived over here.

When I began playing DAO back in 2009 I always thought prettyboy Alistair was neat, but then DA Awakening came out. ;-)

Nathaniel is so fine... I hope has an appearance in DA2!

Was Centurion worth renting?  I've only seen previews for it and they really didn't impress me that much.

I liked it.  It's pretty gory.

So I wrote this.  It's my first time writing Dragon Age fic and I don't know if it's in character or not.  I really tried, and well...yeah..*coughs*  *meeples*

Pride

There it was, laid bare before him, the truth of the matter implicit and glistering like a great shining mist that infused everything with an effulgent brightness: he had made an egregious error.  Nathaniel Howe had underestimated the female Warden Commander.  Entirely.  He could have ascribed his mistake to the folly of arrogance, but mostly he was not ashamed to admit that it had been pride, that intrinsic, characteristically irreverent Howe pride; a carefully cultivated form of privilege and expectancy that seemed to go above and beyond the connotation of the word.  This was the Howe way.

Beside him, the Dalish Warden Commander fired her bow.  Each arrow hitting their mark not effortlessly, no, something more mystical, more magical even.  The movement, her brand of archery belied a natural proclivity, and almost dare he say it: destiny.  It was a phenomenon he could not understand.  As the two wardens practiced side by side, he felt himself diminish, felt as if he had become a small, insignificant thing while she swelled and flourished, while she languished in the instinctive artistry of her form.  Her skill possessed an unnatural beauty.

“Not bad, Howe.”

Nathaniel heard it in her voice, the bitter amusement, like a poisonous honey that feigned innocuously, and embraced childish awe.  Her kindness was tinged with a darkness, a frightful bitterness and he’d begun to wonder just what kind of person was this warden, the so-called “Hero of Ferelden.”  While he had only known her a few weeks, the unsettling way that she fought, the way violence clung to her like an art form disoriented him.

“Thanks.”  His reply was strained and she lowered her bow.  She was watching him now as he turned to see her flash him a smug smile that bore the guise of friendship.  Why in Maker’s name did she not just do away with him.  What was the point of this farce after all?

“That was a fair bit of fun wouldn’t you say?  We should do it again,” Haidee murmured.

“Yes, Commander.  If you wish.”

He would not give her the satisfaction of seeing his discomfort and inclined his head in a polite nod.  It was the gentlemanly course of action and he would not debase himself by greeting her rudeness with similar behavior.  That ship had sailed long ago when he’d given up trying to kill her. 

“Whenever it pleases you, Commander.  I’m not going anywhere and it would seem that neither are you.”

He stared at her then, regaining a bit of the fading glimmer she and her sanctimonious order had stolen.

“Excellent then.  I’ll be looking forward to it.”

With a final raised eyebrow and a brisk turn on her heels, she walked away.  Swiftly and silently as if floating on the very grass itself she moved, her retreating form evoking a slight shudder.

“Poisonous honey, indeed.”

He murmured this as he picked up his bow once again, and took aim.

Nice one. Interesting take on things. I enjoyed it a lot. I think you captured Nate really well by the way - I like that he's a bit put off by the Commander, instead of feeling some kind of instant attraction.

That's about how I feel about Nate not being in DA2 with much of a 'meaty' role.  Alas...

Good news?

"Players should expect to see some familiar faces as well. Since the events of this game overlap the first, it only makes sense for certain characters to be carried over, some as NPCs, and some even as companions. For instance, Flemeth will appear and have a place in the story. Nathaniel Howe will appear in and around Kirkwall at some point. The DLC for Origins is considered to be canon, so some of those characters should appear as well, though it hasn't been announced which ones. Steve Valentine, who voiced Alistair in the first game, has done some voice work, so it's being rumored that Alistair will make a cameo, though that has yet to be confirmed, and he could very well be voicing a new character.
