He certainly switches his hero worship from his father to his grandfather easily enough. Even if he can't clarify for me how he had a Howe grandfather GW and a Howe grandfather killed by the Couslands during the rebellion.

I think at first he views it as the Grey Wardens fault, especially your PC since you are the one that killed his father. I think his anger was based more on what you did to his family name, rather than his father. Killing Rendon was just icing on the cake.

He realizes that his great-grandfather (or was it uncle, or something) went off to join the Grey Wardens, and he did it becuase of honor. Rendon was the one saying what a fool idea it was. I think that makes Nate have more respect for the order, once he realizes what a jerkface Rendon was.

I believe Mel is correct in her assessment. Nate knew his family had honorable roots and therefore could not conceive of any Howe behaving in a dishonorable way. So, when he meets the HN, they had to be a traitor. There was no other alternative. What confuses Nate is when he sees your warden behaving honorably. Then he starts seeing the letters and notes his father wrote. Even then, he is is not convinced until he talks to his sister. That is when Nate has to reassess his point of view. It is very interesting when he later confronts Valenna about judging people without all the facts. He is in fact talking as much about himself as about her conclusions regarding the humans and her sister's disappearance.

I totally picked up on that as well. But he still refers to her as an oppressor. Was that meant for her or was he silently calling himself that?

So, I might have to take pointers from this thread when the time comes, just to have a clear image of Aurora's attraction to Nate that she seems to be resisting, and how to RP it.

Me thinks you will not need pointers from any of us to see what any Warden would find attractive in Nate.  Just enjoy the surprise of him saying to your Cousland for the first time, "Does this please you?"

Oops, pic came out kind of dark..

So Nate thread, my current character that I am playing whom I absolutely adore, Aurora Cousland, will be attracted to Nathaniel. But she will not act upon that attraction because she has a hard time trusting after what Alistair and Morrigan will do to her prior the final battle (aka abandon her). Long story, that I might explain later. But this is essentially my way of justifying the lack of romance in Awakening.

KoP, when did you sneak in here?  I totally missed it.  I'd help you, but you were mean and we're fighting, so shoo! shoo!  Image IPB

I really love Nathaniel. Even though he is eclipsed by my Anders worship, I can't bear to not have him with me in Awakening. I really want to rotate the party more, but it's almost always Anders/Nate with the other four rotating for the last spot.

So question, does anyone know what the Howe family crest looks like?

I believe the bear symbolises Amaranthine as a whole...don't know if that counts for the Howes too, though.

Well that's the City of Amaranthine heraldry. (link) Is that the same as Howe's family crest?

Edit: Doesn't look like it because the Cousland crest is different than the Highever one.

I remember Mother Cousland mentioning the men storming the castle had Howe's crest. Do you get to see it at all in any of the HN origin?

I don't think so...I think all had generic armor and generic wood shields.

Maybe I am implying that their family crest is nothing?

Or maybe just found out that the image for some reason didn't show up, so edited the post.

It is kind of strange that we never see it, especially since you can find just about every other crest under the sun (including an Aeducan one which I made everyone in my party wearImage IPB) and the Howe Bow is supposed to have it on it.

I adore the Aeducan crest. It alone makes a strong argument for picking Bhelen.
