As an aside - I have Nate and Oghren on my list as possibles for DA2. Nate is almost confirmed (as we know) and there's that line about Oghren and Nevarra.



What is it with Bioware and Oghren btw? I'm wondering if we'll get to DA53: Oghren's Revenge and he'll be the end boss of all evilness. The whole time he's been secretly behind the whole thing (whatever the thing turns out to be). Would explain why Branka survived the Deep Roads for 2 years.

I revv'd it up to check  (crickey it takes ages to start when you're in a hurry ;-) )

Res - 1680  x 1050
Graphics - very high
anti aliasing  -2x
texture - high

frame-buffer effects - on

no v sync

I recently upgraded my graphics card but I think that shot is from before then - I could be wrong though.  Its a 9800GTX 1gb so nothing amazingly new.

Oh edit - I'm pretty sure I amped them up after I put the new card in.  It was set to whatever the default was before then.  I'm really bad at tweaking settings tbh.  I just slid everything over to high just to see what would happen.  It didn't crash or run like a dog I forgot about it.

I just want to hug him and kiss him and squeeze him and snuggle him in this picture to make him feel better. 

And Oghren's an interesting one.  When they announced him for Awakening I was all 'oh hell no!' but then I played awakening, and he was more amusing to me this go round in some ways (and more gross in others).  Then I started writing my fanfics and I was using Oghren more in the game, so I started thinking, "Okay, what makes Oghren tick?"

THEN I went back and did another playthrough on Origins and used Oghren more and got more of his dialogue, and got more background on him.

Then, finally, I started writing down and thinking about "who is Oghren?  Why is he this way?  What was he like ten, fifteen, twenty years ago?" and tried to round out WHO he is, and I have to admit, I think of him as a really cool character now.  He's a great example of someone who's been marginalized/taught he's no good for most of his life and has made something of himself, flaws and all, anyway.  

Kudos to the Bioware writers.  I never expected to delve that deeply into anyone's psyche.  :happy:


(Although he's still not as hot or as compelling as Nathaniel is to me!)

I'm still giddy over the almost confirmation (since we don't know if he's appearing in a cameo only, as a temporary companion, etc). If Nate shows up post-Awakening in DA2 (in addition to pre-Awakening), I wonder if letting him go then refusing to let him join the Grey Wardens will have an effect.

Oghren in DA2 sounds like "The return of an old favorite!". Whose favorite, I ask. We were told that we would get to know more about him in Awakening. What I found out didn't endear me to him more from where we left at Origins. He's cool, yet overshadowed by his quirks. It also doesn't help that there are characters who stand out more than him. If Bioware decides to bring him back for DA2, I wish he would be more compelling without turning his personality 180 degrees.

I actually don't think I've seen it done with any human or elf Wardens but dwarven ones...apparently species is all some Wardens care about.

Even the inner monolgoue/description often says somehting to that effect like 'only a dwarf would understand my pain' or something of the like.

Oh and about Oghren.  I'd romance him if he were romanceable.  I'd just make sure he brushed his teeth, used mouthwash, took a few Gas-X tablets and a bath (maybe two).  Hehe.

Poor Oghren.  I shouldn't be so hard on him I suppose but apart from one run, I don't really use him much in Origins and never in Awakenings.

I like the idea of a dwarf romance option - am not sure why they didn't put one in Origins - instead of Morrigan maybe? (that's a joke btw before the Morrigan fans decend on me with burning torches ;-) ).

Perhaps because Oghren was never intended to be seen in that light his character isn't written with the idea that he might be seen as attractive?  I don't know - Anders and Nate weren't either and it hasn't stopped us.  Hmm...  I wouldn't like to think that the writers simply decided that dwarves aren't suitable for romance.  Some psychological profile thingy that their target demographic is more likely to play human males/females and therefore Alistair/Morrigan will be the prime options for most of them?

Would be interesting to know why they made certain design decisions - or  is that just me?  I've been told before that I have an annoying habit of wanting to know how things work and why they turned out the way they did.

That would be an interesting battle I think - the Warden is tough but Hawke will have 10 years experience under her belt by the end of her journey.

DA3 may see that match up - one never knows what the future might bring.  Bioware might say its about something trivial like the end of the world, ending Blights forever or restoring the Black City.  But we'll know the truth...its about:
