I had always sentimentally put Nate with Sigrun, too. And for some odd reason, I just love the way he says her name. In fact, I love how he emphasizes anyone's name when he talks to them.

Yes!

"Do you have a point.  Anders?"

The VO has a very distinctive way of speaking which really gives Nate his own voice imho.

I love Nate's dialogue when you choose him to go to Amaranthine (oh who am I kidding, I love all his dialogue ;-) )

I don't remember that, will have to pay attention.  I do remember that he wants you to burn the town, which is surprising since his sister is presumably still inside.  Posted Image

BTW your avvie is cute.  An Origins Dalish, I take it?

Nate is skeptical. Sorry my PC's staff is in the way.

Anyone else ever get this message?  Not sure if it was the game or our PC, though the game has been very crashy lately.

Nate approves of rescuing the kidnapped woman.  He always likes it when you help out the common folk, another reason it's surprising he wants to torch Amaranthine.  Maybe that has to do with the fact that Vigil's Keep is his home so what he really is pushing for is for you to save it??

Okay, so on my second Warden in DAOA, I took Nate with me down into the Keep basement (I didn't the first time through) and I saw Adria (or whatever her name was). After the slight build up with him being determined (and pleading to the Warden) to find her... talk about a missed opportunity. =/

Dangnabit!  I just started Awakening last night and did the basement before recruiting Nate.  Is that a quest he should be along for?

Wait, I'm in a Nate fan thread.  Clearly he should be along for all quests. :)  Let me rephrase that: if I want to let him go so that he comes back later, what's the next quest that I should do so that I miss the least?

Clearly.  Posted Image  I just travel to Amaranthine and usually the cutscene pops up right away.  You might have to go back and forth to the Keep a couple times.  So no need to be Nate-deprived for anything.

I love it when you choose him to go to Amaranthine and his approval is very low. Instead of his rather happy dialogue about how dying to restore his honor is worthwhile, he just goes, "whatever!".

LOL Nice bit of dark cynicism there, Nate.

Although I have to say it is much nicer having him at 100 now.  His fetch/ disarm/ unlock lines have turned really melty.  "I'm here for you."  There just aren't enough locked chests and traps in the district.  Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

Yes, Dalish rogue archery type.    I'm very fond of the Dalish origin (with all its shortcomings).  I like Tamlen too, which makes me a minority I think.

I get that message in that area quite a lot.  Doesn't seem to affect gameplay though I don't think.

That Amranathine burning thing puzzles me too - it was suggested that his nature is very practical and so it makes more sense to save what can be saved and not try to save the town if its past saving.  I'm not entirely agreeing with that myself but it does seem possible.

Wait...his approval can be low?   :P

After Anders (the big tart) Nate's approval is easiest to get I think.  It just seems to shimmy up the metre (hmm shimmy).
No, that wasn't relevent but I wanted to use the word shimmy in a sentence about Nate. :innocent:

I like to click the chests first "Why don't you let me do that" or is it "I think I can handle that for you"  I'll have to check now.  But either way "Yes!  Why don't you?"

Yeah, Nate's approval (as well as Anders) are the easiest ones to increase, followed by Justice perhaps. His personal quest alone makes him go from "I hate you and want to stab you" to "you're actually pretty swell and I don't want to stab you anymore". I'm sure some here would still like to get stabbed... =]

However the character I was playing was a real nasty piece of work (she was inspired by Marjolaine after all) so Nate's approval was dangerously close to "hostile" territory.

You used the "M" word...

Ah makes sense - I sometimes try to play different character types but I don't have the RP skills for it.  I want them to like me too much....

I obviously have issues with needing approval from others

We are sisters.  Posted Image  The more I think about it, the more it makes sense to put Nate together with a Dalish character.  I hadn't thought about it much before, but his love of the outdoors, the fact that he's lost everything and can relate to being on the outs, rugged practicality (emphasis on rugged Posted Image)...  I saw this fanart of him by ladywinde and if there were a tattoo on his face, you could almost take it for a Dalish man.

Posted Image

So I get the Velanna thing, if only because he probably is thinking he can't woo his commander.  Posted Image

Heh, I probably own a record for post count around here or something.  Goes with having a boring desk job.

I have the lock bash mod, so I have to select Nate if I want him to open something.  But the more you click, the more sexy you hear, so it works out.  Posted Image

This PC being a mage with all the glyph line, it actually works really well to lay down a repulsion and ward glyph around her and Nate (Velanna can join too but who really cares LOL) and then just stand back to lob destruction on all and sundry.  So Nate looks out for her, she looks out for him, it's all good.

Nice one.  I usually let Anders do the glyping and stand next to him if I'm playing an archer or mage myself.  When my current girl gets to Awakenings I'll have to think whether to respec Nate to melee.  I did that with my last Dalish archer and he did a fine job.  Only problem is - I open all the chest then...darn it.

You could also do a character who for whatever reason (needing approval from others, not caring enough to want to antagonize them, just telling people what they want to hear so they look better, ect.) maxes out everyone's approval.

Marjolaine? Oops...

Not being able to have characters hate you does not need to represent a lack of RP skills. Maybe your characters simply have too much love to give and when it's not reciprocated they commit suicide (i.e., you delete the character)... :P

I usually leave them in Lothering...to face the Darkspawn incursion alone and unarmed.

On a slightly tangental note I did have one do the US after Alistair gave her the big "A'.  Very emo thing to do I know but I wanted to see what he'd do if I left him at the gate.  "Its my duty Alistair.  You understand duty don't you?".  Or similar.  Ouch - direct hit to the passive aggressive "he's going to be stewing over that for the next ten years" nerve.

Oh look, an on topic Nate.  Someone's keeping busy during the cold nights at the Vigil:

Posted Image

He's practising his chiropractic skills...yeah....that's what he's doing ;)

Edit - Oh should I mark that NSFW and link it out?  I get confused about things like that and mores in different countries.  Apologies if the image offends anyone...just let me know and I'll move it along somewhere else.

That's what I'm doing with my current gal.  I decided instead of pretending that her face had expressions, to go with the blank  "I'm neutral about this but I'm prepared to listen to you" thing.  She's stoic about most things and will do whatever she thinks is the least detrimental all round.  No barrow of her own to push so to speak.

That's a nice piece.  (The art and Nate Posted Image).

He is very outdoorsy (except for that whole "I think I stepped in something" comment in the Wending Woods).  Part of the reason he's matched up with my latest Dalish gal in my current scribblings.  She resists the temptations of both Alistair and Zevran only to succumb to Nathaniel (and who wouldn't I ask you.)

Edit - cursed forums and their quoting thingys

I actually left Nate at the Vigil once and went to Amaranthine, burned it, and came back to see what happens.

He seemed awfully happy to see my mage when she came back and sounded like he had just been fighting and was about ready to hug her to death... *Gets idea and talks non-sensically to self for a few minutes, before returning to the topic*

I wish you could give hugs normally. Some of the characters just need hugs, Nate needing them the most. And my mage (who hates people) wouldn't mind giving him hugs at all... ;)

 I do not giggle when I hear "Does this please you?" when Nate pops open locks on chests.

OK, I'm caught, that's a lie. A very, very, very, very, very, very bad lie.

And shouldn't we wanting to put down a repulsion glyph to keep Velanna away from Nate?
*Dialogue idea for Mage!Warden*

Velanna:  I had Nathaniel protected perfectly fine earlier. You didn't need to waste the energy to help.
Warden: Are you sure? It sure seemed like that repulsion glyph wasn't working...
Velanna: Nothing was coming anywhere near him unless you're talking about-- You are really such a child.
Warden: Ah, and so she finally catches on! I'm so very proud.

Thank you! :D

My own writing (especially the funny, sarcastic stuff) is actually probably the only thing that keeps me from becoming insane and / or (far more likely AND) depressed besides my games. It makes me all bubbly when I get compliments! *Floats off the ground several inches.*

Too bad it isn't in there. But it probably wouldn't save her anyway without the ability to flirt with or have Nate as a LI for my character. But then the dialogue suggests he is a LI for the Warden or the Warden can flirt with him...

*PLOT! PLOT! PLOT!*

<_<... I need a self-destruct button before I decide to grab my head and beat it in to get the plotting half to STFU!!
