More archery goodness from the bow of Nathaniel Howe.

Don't mind the glyph and Buntie in pain in the background there ;-)

Not really Nate related, but your avatar is hilarious Avila.

So, to make this post Nate related, how do you guys feel about Nate wanting to support the Architect? Makes sense for him?

Sorry if it's already been discussed.

hehe ty - its Buntie's personality in one easy picture ;-)

Re Nate : I thought it was odd - like wanting to burn Amaranthine.

However, his personality is quite (bah can't think of the word I want, logical?  No, um, practical.  bah.)  Practical will do for now but its not quite want I want.  So even the chance of ending the blights seems worth the risk to him.

That's the thinking iirc.  I could be wrong - its Friday night and my brain is gone (as evidenced by my lack of being able to think of the word I want).

Others will have better ideas I'm sure but that's my recollection. :)

I think its his practicality.  Look at his gifts.  All of them seem to have a practical use, not just fluffy "ooo pretty shineys".  If you RP it, you can assume at that point the city is lost so his choice to burn it isn't that far fetched.  And the Architect does promise to end the threat of future Blights if you see his viewpoint.

I guess that would make him a better Warden than my PC, because I can't bring myself to do either of those two things.  I never did jump on the "Whatever it takes" bandwagon.

I find it difficult to let Amaranthine burn. In fact, the way it's presented in game makes letting it burn seem more reasonable (Aiden says it's lost already) but the epilogue for saving it is much more favourable than the keep epilogue. (However, you also have men - and friends - at the keep, who will die, and if you return they are very grateful to see you. So I suppose you could let it go either way).

The Architect I'm 50/50 on. He actually seems very reasonable in game - his proposition seems sensible, and again, the epilogue is favourable if you spare him. The problem is if you relate that to what he proposes in The Calling. If he's changed his plan since then, it's not entirely a bad thing to let him live. The main problem is if he's lied to you - but that's knowledge you don't and can't have.

I decided for a change I'd recruit Velanna. I thought she'd be difficult to talk to and hostile. How wrong was I:

Nate's a little dubious about all this:

Nate experts, a question if you will.

Did any of you keep Nathaniel at a lower approval? What is he like if he's not your best friend? What happens to him in the epilogue? I've never played through Awakening but I'd really like to know what he would be like if he respected you as his commander but is not your friend? Does he still save Fergus' life?

I believe the epilogue if he's not that fond of you (assuming he survives) is that he leaves the Wardens and a few years later his nephew joins the Wardens and restores honor to the Howe name.

It seems he's written to be a pragmatist, this and also supporting the burning of Amaranthine being examples of that.  Awakening's weaknesses being what they are, they don't give you much basis on which to spare the Architect, so it feels out of the blue, but then I never really got the idea of Wardens cooperating with him so maybe that's my bias.

Shot I took for the elf thread, to show that the Dark Wolf was probably a human.  When I posted it, I joked that they're all looking at my PC's ass.  I think they actually are looking at her, though, since she was standing over there.  Men.  Posted Image

The way I see it is that the Vigil is the area's real military anchor and is also where the civil government is seated.  You're told that the rural population in the arling is much larger than Amaranthine's.  Amaranthine is likely already lost, and if the Vigil falls, too, the whole arling is screwed.  But I agree, the epilogue slide is very harsh if you take this route.

I'm iffy on the epilogue for sparing him.  The darkspawn being quiet could just be the quiet before the real storm.  I just can't trust him and it doesn't seem right to spare him, let alone cooperate with him.

They didnt' fix Anders approval with the patch.  My Orlesian is dealing with "Love" from both Anders AND Justice *Facepalms* who knew the Orlesian accent is so sexy?  (If Isolde or Marjolaine is any indication)  And why couldn't it be Nathaniel in love but nooooooo he's stuck at "warm" even though his approval is over 90 and I did his personal quest a while ago.

Anything below 25 will result in a rather cold Nathaniel. For example, if you choose him to go to Amaranthine with you (saying "this is a chance to redeem your name"), when he's above warm he'll give a rather spirited speech about how dying to restore his honor is worthwhile. If he's below 25 (neutral), he'll scoff at you and say "Whatever!".

Velanna's not as bad as I'd feared, once you give her a few gifts and show her humans aren't so bad. (Well, I play humans, for the mostpart. I've done all origins once, but humans are the only ones I've repeated). But I'm going to kill her in my current game for the first time, just to see.

And yes, I've had Anders and Justice (eww) at Love. Can't get the others to Friendly, just warm. Meh.

The problem for me is that I can rarely justify giving gifts with my characters, unless they're plot gifts. What are Velanna's plot gifts? I remember an empty book that triggered a scene, though why would my characters give her that is something I'd really have to consider.

I once recruited Velanna with the logic that if her sister is hanging around with the Architect, Velanna could serve as a communication bridge. The one time I killed her I was playing a no-nonsense character, so when Velanna said, "would you please let me die with my brethren" (or something like that), my character said "gladly".

Velanna tells you earlier on that she's jealous that humans have stories and her people don't so much so giving her a blank journal to write her stories down for future generations sounds completely appropriate. You can also give her the elven runestone and trinket because she's more likely to want elven things than anyone else in the part and the trinket, in particular, is found near her former camp so it probably belonged to one of her followers (I think it was actually her sister's).

LOL I may do that with my Orlesian, I have yet to do the Velanna part of the story yet with her.  I'll lose brownie points with Anders but *shrug* it will be worth it to see the shrew lying at my feet.  My problem is I am just as content to tell her get lost at the end of the Silverite mines...but that fishwife voice and her "killing all those innocent people made me warm and fuzzy inside" comments just kill any sympathy I have for the b*tch.

Ah, yes the whole "we elves have lost our history" thing. But if I'm correct the dialogue where she says that ("I envy you sometimes", is that the one?) triggers until you're at warm, right? I'm not sure if I can even get her that far even with the elven trinkets. Aghh, this is what I get for wanting to justify every action in game.

Anders and Nate's approval on the other hand just rises on its own.

I let her say her piece, because f!Cousland is apparently a sucker who will recruit anyone who shows some token remorse... but Velanna didn't. She just got somewhat defensive and seemed more upset that she'd been tricked than that she'd killed a few score innocent men and dumped their bodies in nearby villages to terrorize people. Unfortunately, waiting that long to try and attack her meant that she got a "get out of combat free" card from the cutscene.

I got "Velanna approves +6" which I found odd; I thought she might come back, like Nate does if you let him go, but no.

I don't have any trouble getting Velanna's approval high enough to get the journal prompt. You pick up a few elven trinkets that boost her, and she gives approval bump just for letting her become a Warden.

But I only get like 5 points per trinket. I don't recall how many points you get for the joining but at least for me it's never enough to get her to "warm".

Whoops, the thread needs more Nate:
