I decided for a change I'd recruit Velanna. I thought she'd be difficult to talk to and hostile. How wrong was I:

Nate's a little dubious about all this:

[snipped]

(They must have forgotten to fix Velanna's approval when they fixed Anders')

They didnt' fix Anders approval with the patch.  My Orlesian is dealing with "Love" from both Anders AND Justice *Facepalms* who knew the Orlesian accent is so sexy?  (If Isolde or Marjolaine is any indication)  And why couldn't it be Nathaniel in love but nooooooo he's stuck at "warm" even though his approval is over 90 and I did his personal quest a while ago.

They didn't?  Blast them.  Anders was fixed so I assumed....my first mistake I suppose...assuming <_<

But, isn't that a good thing?

That they fixed Anders?  Depends...will I look like rabid fan girl if I say 'no'?

Oh right ToP :

Have some classic Nate

Actually I meant if isn't a good thing that they DIDN'T fixed him. You know, so that he can still love you...

Ahh, sorry.  Well that would be good...but in game he's fixed and only Velanna is bugged.  Cursed woman I knew she'd be trouble as soon as I saw that hairdo.

So the poster who said they hadn't fixed him is wrong? Hmm, I guess I'll have to find out for myself if he's still willing to love my wardens.

And I had no idea Velanna could "love" you as well. Not sure if I'm willing to take up that offer. She's not bad looking but as soon as she opens her mouth...

Oh god do I sound silly.

I don't have any trouble getting Velanna's approval high enough to get the journal prompt. You pick up a few elven trinkets that boost her, and she gives approval bump just for letting her become a Warden.

But I only get like 5 points per trinket. I don't recall how many points you get for the joining but at least for me it's never enough to get her to "warm".

Lessee.  I give her the Discarded Journal you get in Amaranthine, the Green Malachite- don't remember where that comes from- the Elven Runestone and Elven Scroll and the Potted Plant.  That's 20 and I'm pretty sure you get a good bump for being nice about her sister.  Also for clicking on Andraste and pointing out that the Dalish would suck just as badly if they were in power.

The one I can never, ever get high enough to do his quest is Oghren.  Damn you Oghren, you were going to be the warrior I taught you to be and now you won't even talk to me.

Whoops, the thread needs more Nate:

I love how he assumes the Warden would be 10 feet tall and shoot lightning bolts out of their eyes.

Love Nate's dark humor.  My favorite of his dark snark is "I think it's staring at me" about his mom's portrait.

I'm going to start writing a Nate story this weekend.  I'm nervous about it.  Posted Image  Have much less a sense of what I'm doing than with Alistair.  But I have some ideas.

The potted plant - really? That's a Sigrun gift.
You can give her the carved greenstone (I think that's form Kal Hirol), malachite (silverite mine, I think), elven rune (wending wood, maybe), discarded journal (Amaranthine), empty book (Amaranthine chantry) and sister's necklance (on darkspawn in the Wending Wood after you talk to the poor fella with the taint).
Just killed her for the first time this evening. She didn't put up much fight - I was expecting her to be a lot tougher.

Regarding Oghren, I actually had one game where his gifts were all the right amount of points. But this game...back to minimal rewards. Fortunatley I still had a lot of small gifts left over from Origins so I've managed to get him up high enough. He's quite difficult to talk to - you have to be quite mean to Felsi when she visits and back him up for being a crappy husband, which I don't really like doing. I also don't talk to him using the cask - that seems to get no positive approvals. It'll all be in the wiki, anyway, if you are keen to know how to get the approval high enough to finish his quest.

Awakening Oghren is a failure. They killed the character IMO. That, and if you import from Origins, his approval is reset at zero. What the hell is that about? Why should we earn his trust again when he called us "the closest thing to family I've had in years" and then gives us the "I'll be the warrior you taught me to be" speech?

Ehh, it's Awakening, why I am getting worked up over it.

It's a good thing I only play Awakening with Orlesian wardens. It's much easier that way to send him away at the start or just flat out ignore him.

Oh, heh, I guess I didn't realize it was Sigrun's. You know on my Orlesian Warden all the gifts were giving +5 for all the companions, is that a bug? On the plus side, I imported my Origins Dalish who left Wynne as a char stain on the Tower floor and Wynne didn't do her magic resuscitation act. Unfortunately that means no Ines. Ah well.

I chose the more neutral options when Felsi came as it was really not my place to get involved or take sides. It took awhile, but eventually I managed to get him to full approval. Too bad I had no origins gifts left but that game I was trying to max out Loghain's approval to see if he had something more interesting to say at the gate (he didn't Posted Image).

I got that exact bug, glad I'm not the only one. Not sure why - mien was with an imported Warden, so maybe it's random? And no Ines!? But she's one fo the best things in Awakening. Her reasoning behind Uldred is probably right.

I occasionally manage to get Oghren to Friendly, but I don't think I've ever got him to max. Sometimes I use the console to set his starting approval at 50% of what it was when Origins ended, which I think is far more reasonable than 0.

I had never thought of doing that. Thanks for the idea!

Zydrate comes in a little glass vial!
A little glass vial?!
A little glass vial!

I hate my friends. We've been watching far too much Repo! The Genetic Opera for our own good. And it's stuck-

*My Elf!Warden skips by as I try to play.*
Warden: Zydrate comes in a little glass vial! *she has a blue glowstick*
*Nate now also has GraveRobber's freaky rainbow/Skittles colored hair*

So I'm back! And I love the new "I Like Nathaniel. So stoic." siggys. Might steal one...

Aww!! That's a sweet drawing. I'll pass the word here, too- Gaider just said on a podcast that there will be "temporary" romance options in DA2. So, combined with his statement that he would have made Nate a romance option in Awakening out of any of the companions, I'm thinking you'll be able to hit that in DA2.

Oh, damn! Did I miss my chance to nag Mr. Gaider live via chat?

A short romance though... will be sad, short, and sweet for my Lady!Hawke.

My question - how are we supposed to move on after Nate? Nate!!!? All other potential LI's will pale in comparison.

It could be a lonely 10 years for Hawkie ;-)

I know! It'll suck for poor, poor Hawke.

I get a sense she'll keep waiting and get highly depressed...

I say we get all our Hawkes together and mount an expedition to retrieve him from captivity in Amaranthine.

This warden led tyranny must not continue!!!

Oh - cough - that's not allowed here. Um, Awakenings, yeah, woo. Am playing my last run before the new DLC. Possibly my last run for a while (but I've said that before). Listening to Nate chat up Velanna is actually making me laugh. A lot. I'm not convinced its actual flirting yet though - I reckon he's winding her up.

That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

By the end I thought it was actual flirting, but could be more or less serious. It might just be him being suave and courtly.

Could be.  Teagan hits the flirt button easily enough.  Its probably just a thing those nobles do.

Hmmm suave and an archer....

Finished Awakenings again. I always feel a bit sad when its finished. I'm glad I finally recruited Velanna - she's not bad once she settles down. Lots more incidental dialogue with her too - new cut scene with her sister at Drakes Fall which was nice. Nate and her both unhappy with Buntie for killing the Architect. Oh well ;-)

Oh and just to show I don't mind admitting I'm a noob - I've probably finished 5 or so runs and this is the first time I've used the towers to help with the Mother fight.    Not because I'm that good, but because I'm always too lazy to try to figure out how it works.
