Include this rule in books as well. A few of my favorite characters in books have done this. Except Fell... he "died" right in front of us and then turned back up as a major antagonist because he got brainwashed... *sigh*

You know, if I ever do try to kill Nate, I'll keep telling myself he broke free from the guards and ran away... Oooo, idea!

:o... Bad Scarlett! Bad, bad, bad! Don't even think about it!

This is actually very feasible. The only thing is that Nate doesn't seem to want to run away at the point where he realizes he's to be executed.

But... it's possible he decided to give the Warden and Varel the finger at the last moment and broke free. Very possible... ^_^

Well of course he doesn't act like he wants to escape. He's trying to get them to let their guard down. Then, naturally, the embarrassed guards won't admit what really happened so they claim they killed him. Posted Image

:o

So the Nate fooled everyone? The Nate being dead is a lie?

The Nate can't be killed!

He really is impossible to get rid of, isn't he? Just finished my fourth Awakening run, was once again honestly, sincerely intending to not recruit him this time. Only after I sent him away with his family's belongings he CAME BACK AND DEMANDED THAT I RECRUIT HIM. (No, I didn't know before that he did that, because I've never been able to get as far as sending him away before.) Obviously I couldn't say no when he asked so nicely so he ended up in my squad yet again.

Not that I don't love having him around, but Sigrun is my other favourite Awakening character, and I don't want to have two rogues in the party every single time. This time I ended up rotating between them instead.

Sigrun and Nathaniel are different enough in their rogue types (and awesome enough) that it's not really like having "two rogues". He's the cunning guy, she's the upfront slasher, they both do killer damage. My favored party is Sigrun, Nathaniel and Anders, and all my PCs are mages or rogues so warriors end up keeping the home fires burning.

What specializations do people give Nate?  I don't like to mess with ranger pets unless my PC is a ranger, so I usually give him Bard and Shadow.  His war song is sexy.  :D

I do give him Ranger and that's it. I never give him a third spec, I just use the talent points on the DW tree.

I give Nate Duelist and Legionnaire scout to go with his initial Assassin (no more points in that though). Mainly for the passive stat boosts. I put some points into the second level of rogue to get the avoidance and cunning/str damage boost.

I don't claim to be any good at working that stuff out but it seems to go alright.

...I just finished Awakening with a party of rogue!Cousland, Nathaniel and Sigrun, plus Anders. Granted, played it on Easy, but nooooo problems at all. We were a death machine.

ETA: And by "no problems" I mean "85% of the time I never had to micromanage their combat tactics and I just left the game's default tactics in place."  Fighting the Mother, I think I gave Nate one direct order, Anders half a dozen, and none to Sigrun - I just controlled the Warden, for the most part.  I'm doing DAO replays on Normal now, and I'm pretty sure the same or a similar 3-rogue party would kick just as much butt at a higher difficulty.

Ah, Mel and I were thinking tomorrow.  But she did put up the new prompt late Thursday last week, didn't she?

I'll have one posted in the next few hours, as it's my turn this week.  :D

I've had to bump up to Hard lately, probably because with modded equipment we're just too powerful.  But with some management, a rogue-mage party has no trouble.  I set Nate to drop into Shadow if he's being attacked, so he can keep on firing with that killer bow of his without interruption.  Also have him stand near a mage with a repulsion field going.  Sigrun can take a lot of punishment- the high dex score > a warrior's high constitution any day in my book.  Poor thing is often my only melee fighter.  But that's offset by the fact that with two mages and Nate, she can sometimes stand back and watch the fireworks.

The due date for last week's prompt is tonight at midnight (which means I won't even fill my own prompt Posted Image).  So I don't know when we should post the next one...tonight?  Tomorrow morning?  I guess tonight will work.

This one isn't a contest so a late fill really isn't a big deal.

Talking of parties, I also tend to use Nate, Siggy and Anders, mostly because they're ma faves. So far I've been through Awakenings with two mages, a 2-hander warrior and a dual wielder rogue, and I'm currently on another mage. Doesn't really matter what class you play - those three will work out fine.

I use Siggy as a warrior, due to her high strength and dex, even though she's actually a rogue. Nate I always use as an archer but I've given him some dual wield points this time around as well.

I'll use Justice for his quests - he's decent enough. I don't care to use Oghren much, and if I'm taking a mage then Anders is going to win out over Velanna. Her lack of remorse over her killing of the caravaners rubs me up the wrong way, to be honest.

Grrr! I didn't attack her straight off, since it's apparently my Warden-Commander's MO to recruit every murderer and assassin who shows a drop of remorse. So I march through the dialogue trees to tell her that it's been a mistaken, and she's... put out. Now, I get that she'd be defensive and not want to admit that hey, she's been a mass murderer terrorizing the wrong people, but I didn't get a sense of her wanting to fix that. OK, no recruitment for you!

Then when I try to apprehend her, she gets an authorial escape AND drives traffic away from the Pilgrim's Path in the epilogue. That's my road, woman! Off it!

On Tecla's game I decided to take Oghren and Velanna more often, and sometimes Justice, to get their dialogues. But Anders-Nathaniel-Sigrun are my faves. I could listen to Nathaniel saying their names all day.
"Do you really believe you are dead. Sigrun."
"Do you have a point. Anders."

FINALLY!

This week's prompt is:  Relations.

(I'm leaving the definition of that wide-open on purpose.  ;))

Hope it works!

I have such a hard time writing Nathaniel, but I have the name thing in an iron grip.

And I might participate in this week's prompt. Maybe. It's a good one!

My first run of Awakenings.  I thought "she's a tad obnoxious but I can live with that".  I got to the end of the Mines and she's "I demand you recruit me so I may leave and chase my sister".  Not. "Oh dear I've killed people for no reason" or even "oops".  I recruited her that unfinished run.

Every run, except one special one where I took her just for a test, death awaits her.  She did sort of grow on me but not enough to recruit her again.

In honour of the prompt theme (but not my answer):

It's even worse when you take her with you when you talk to the guy who gave you the quest in the first place. You lose so much disapproval just for asking her to take responsibility for her actions.

Ah, yes, the Merchant's Guild guy.

"Do you want to add something Velanna?"

"No, I don't have anything to add and I feel uncomfortable. Can we go?" (something like that anyway)
