So is there anyone after Addai on the prompt schedule or are we starting over with Mel tomorrow?

Quick question about Nate's prompt. Is anyone allowed to submit stuff? And can it be stuff other than fanfics, like say a photmanip?

That's a yes and a yes!  I have no authority, but I still say yes!  Anders gets lots of art and Nate not so much.

Of course to the first and, while I don't think it's come up, I'm pretty sure you can for the second. It's not a contest, after all, just an attempt to get more Nate things out in the world.

Thanks for the info! I'm not good at writing but I can make a decent photomanip every now and again.

It's too bad I missed the "Nose" prompt. I can think of a lot of funny things to do with that one...

Thanks for the link! Though I ended up having to take a screenshot myself because I needed a more "active" Nate to go with the picture I was manipulating. Thanks nonetheless.

Anyway...

Damn it! I had a much better version of Centaur Nate but Gimp decided to crash just as I was doing the final touches... grrrr!!!

Anyway, here's a not so good version of Centaur Nate... Natetaur:

I also uploaded it to the group photos section.

You know, if I could only draw better... I'd make a Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening Halloween... We already have Nate's costume. And perhaps we could -- I did not begin that sentence. I'm innocent of all charges. :innocent:

LOL!!!  I would love that.  I can picture him seeing Delilah in a crowd and hurriedly putting the mask on before she spotted him.  Just imagine if all you knew of Nate was his broody broodiness and then you saw him do that.  There would be public mauling involved, that's all I know.  Posted ImagePosted Image

There, sorry for being a bit late. Something with moving from one house to another and such...

So it's my turn for a prompt? How about 'First'? And go go make piccies and such. It's just that I'm usually not happy with my drawings ^^ And indeed, the more Nate related stuff, the better. So it's not like only fanfic is allowed :)

Here's my prompt:

Nathaniel eyed the newborn in his arms suspiciously. He had watched it spit up all over his sister’s husband earlier and he was hoping to avoid a similar fate.

Delilah laughed at him. “You look like Thomas is going to attack you.”

“He might,” Nathaniel said a little stiffly.

“Even if he does spit up on you – which he won’t as he hasn’t eaten in awhile – then that wouldn’t be an attack,” Delilah said reasonably.

Nathaniel remained unconvinced. “Hmph. Does he do that often?”

“What, spitting up?” Delilah asked, absently pushing a strand of hair out of her eyes. “I suppose so. All babies do, really, when they’re at his age.”

“You and Thomas didn’t,” Nathaniel disagreed. “Although I never really spent time with any babies besides you two.”

“I really can’t say if I did or not,” Delilah replied. “But Thomas? Please. He spit up every time he was fed without fail for weeks. Adria used to worry that he’d never be able to grow with the way he refused to keep his food down.”

Nathaniel frowned. “I really don’t remember that.”

Delilah shrugged. “Maybe you blocked it out of your mind due to how traumatizing it was whenever he spat up on you.”

“See, that I would have remembered,” Nathaniel claimed.

“Clearly not,” Delilah retorted. “But you don’t have to just take my word for it. Ask Samuel sometime when you get back to the Keep. He used to find that hilarious.”

“I will,” Nathaniel promised, looking disconcerted at the very thought although it was hard to say if he were more upset at not remembering something his little sister was so positive about or that he got spit up on by his little brother at all.

“Oh, relax, Nathaniel; little Thomas doesn’t do it nearly as often as his uncle did,” Delilah assured him.

If Nathaniel relaxed marginally, Delilah was too polite to comment on it. “I’m glad he has your nose.”

Delilah rolled her eyes. “Really, big brother, not everybody has your bizarre phobias.”

“True,” Nathaniel allowed. “But just the same, now he can look like a nice normal member of society instead of...”he trailed off.

“Instead of like a Howe,” Delilah supplied. “By the time he’s old enough to really notice these things, the stigma will have largely passed, Nathaniel. You do good work. Besides, his surname isn’t even Howe.”

“I hope you’re right,” Nathaniel said with a heavy sigh. “When I first started out, I thought you were dead and didn’t care much if I died. I was trying to redeem the past instead of working to fix the future. Now that little Thomas is here I want to make things better for his sake.”

Good,” Delilah said emphatically. “Don’t fixate on the past. That was the mistake our father made.”

“I would never-” Nathaniel began heatedly.

“I’m not saying you would,” Delilah cut him off. “But no good will from that dwelling on what once was even if you never do go crazy and start committing all sorts of vile crimes.”

“I suppose that’s true,” Nathaniel agreed. “It’s not so easy to move on, though. Having a younger generation that you’re trying to protect definitely helps.”

“Little Thomas here is only the first member,” Delilah said, reaching over and smoothing down her son’s hair. “Before long, there will be plenty more voices crying out for their ‘Uncle Nate’ whenever you come to visit.”

Nathaniel shot her a strange look. “Just how many children are you planning on having?”

Delilah tilted her head thoughtfully. “You know, I don’t really know. I know that you’ll have difficulty having children and so carrying on our family legacy will pretty much be my responsibility just as it’s your responsibility to redeem our name. I just…I don’t want them to grow up lonely.”

There was something in her voice that bothered Nathaniel. “You say that as though you’re speaking from experience. Surely our childhood wasn’t that bad?”

“Distant parents, isolation from everyone not ‘good enough’, the never-relenting pressure to live up to the Howe name…” Delilah trailed off. “It wasn’t all bad, no, especially when you were still there. Afterwards…I really don’t know how to explain it to you.”

“You never try,” Nathaniel pointed out.

“I don’t know what to say and I don’t think it will help,” Delilah insisted. “Besides, you’ve had enough disillusionment for one year. Thomas’ childhood will be different. Albert comes from such a large, loving family and I just know he’ll be a great father. He already is.”

“And you’ll be a wonderful mother, Delilah,” Nathaniel said loyally.

“That’s kind of you to say,” Delilah said with a smile. “I really feel like I have no idea what to do most of the time but Albert’s family has been a great help and I’m learning as I go. Who knows, by the time I’m raising my last child I’ll probably be wondering what in the world I was thinking when I raised Thomas.”

“I never actually thought that I would ever even have one nephew – especially after hearing about the war – let alone several,” Nathaniel confessed. “But you know…I’m glad. With you as a mother, Thomas is going to grow up to be a good kid and any other children you have will be the same.”

“And this lets you off the hook as far as settling down,” Delilah teased. “You can just come over here and visit whenever you want to see the children and then make sure to be gone whenever one gets sick or needs to be changed. And speaking of…”

“ ‘Speaking of’?” Nathaniel repeated suspiciously.

“It would appear that it’s about time for Thomas to get changed. Since you’re already holding him, would you like to do the honors?” Delilah asked rhetorically, standing up to go get the supplies.

The look on Nathaniel’s face was really answer enough.

I'm not sure why my mind went here for this prompt. I've been stuck in sentimental mode for a while and wanted to write a good stonking adventure. As I don't have the skills for that, I settled for this quick, semi-stonking, semi-mystery, semi-adventure. ;-)
.......................

Nate rubbed his forehead and tried not to look as tired as he felt. This needed his full attention. Everything needed his full attention. Which was difficult when he'd like nothing more than to sleep. It seemed months since he'd managed a full night's sleep. Months in which the whole of Ferelden had been in uproar.

"Are you sure?"

"Yes Commander. Five of them." Garavel wanted to apologise, even though it wasn't his fault. "The, man, who survived told Aidan he was sure they were darkspawn."

"Darkspawn? We haven't seen any darkspawn since we killed the Mother. Is he sure?"

"He said so."

"Maker. Just what we need." Darkspawn. It seemed odd that none of the wardens had sensed them. "Where were they attacked?"

"Along the coast a bit ser, west of Amaranthine."

"Where is he now?"

"Amaranthine, the Chantry. Beg pardon ser, but are you intending to go after them?"

"I am. First we'll need to see this man." His brain was sluggish but slowly waking. "I'll take Anders and Sigrun with me. If these are indeed darkspawn, they're best to deal with it."

. . .

"Are you certain they were darkspawn?"

"Oh, yes. Huge they were, with them horns. I was here during the troubles, I seen those big ones. That's what these were like."

"Ogres?" So many of them? That was, odd. "I'm not doubting your word Kerrick, but so many? I've never seen more than one Ogre in a group of darkspawn."

"I don't know about that Commander. I do know what I've seen. Ogres. Five of them attacked our caravan and slaughtered everyone. I was knocked out and I reckon they thought I was dead."

"Alright. Thank you Kerrick."

Nate let it flit around his mind while he walked slowly out of the Chantry. Ogres. Five of them, alone it seemed, without any other darkspawn? He thought Kerrick was telling the truth as far as he knew it. It just seemed, odd. Darkspawn so close and none of them had felt it?

Pushing the doors open he stepped out into the cold wind and found his wardens huddled beside that cursed statue in the courtyard.

"He says Ogres." Nate had to smile when Anders grunted and scoffed at the same time. "Five of them. Kerrick was here during the invasion and says he's seen them before."

"Five though Commander? Alone?" Sigrun moved slightly behind Anders, he made a good windbreak. Sometimes she missed the Deep Roads. Particularly when the wind was cutting and icy.

"Very strange, I know. He's told me where they were attacked. We'll rest here for the night then go out in the morning."

"That's the first good news I've heard. The ale in the Inn here is particularly fine." Anders clapped Nate on the shoulder. "And the beds particularly soft."

"I hope so. A good night's rest will make a difference if we have to fight."

. . .

They'd found the place where the caravan was attacked easily enough. The burned out remains were still there, as were the bodies of the dead. Wolves had feasted and not left much for them to study.

"Impossible to tell how they died." Anders moved away quickly to breath in fresh air. "I never get used to that smell."

"No." Nate stood. "It looks like they came over that hill there." He knew the hill over looked the coast. "Darkspawn arriving by ship? I don't think so."

"No Commander, nor do I." Sigrun rubbed her hands together, trying to warm them. "I can go up and look?"

"Good idea. Try to keep yourself out of sight."

"Will do." Glad of something to do, she trotted up the side of the hill. Nearing the crest she ducked and almost crawled the rest of the way. One glance over sent her racing back to the others. "You'd best look ser."

"Darkspawn?" Nate was already moving.

"Just look ser." As she had done the two humans ducked and crawled to the top of the hill.

Nate crested it first. Looking down over the short cliff on the beach he felt a shiver of fear crawl down his spine. "Its an army."

Reaching the top shortly after Nate, Anders looked out at the beach and got his first good look at the invading army. Huge hulking shapes he might have taken for human, if not for their size and one other thing. They all had horns. Twisted and sharp, pushing back over the top of their heads. "What in Andraste's name are those? They're not darkspawn. Are they?"

Nate shook his head. "Qunari." It appeared they were watching the first incursion in a full scale invasion.

Still a good adventure Avillia ^^ Made me think of the Kristoff machinema first, but I liked how it turned out. Such a shame that the Qunari in Origins didn't have horns :(

By the way, do I understand correctly that Nate is the Commander (so this is somewhere in the future)?

Thanks very much :)

I agree on the Qunari - I know a lot of people don't like the change but so far its my favourite thing about DA2.

Yes, Nate is commander.  Its in my fanfic universe where he's made Commander after the Orlesian warden is reassigned.  I tried to think when I was writing exactly when it might be and decided on around 5 years after Awakenings.  I wanted it to be part of DA2's time line.

I like it. I see I should catch up with the fanfic reading then. :) And indeed: Qunari are better with horns. (I admit that the first thing I thought when I saw the DA:2 trailer was: "I want one of those to come along with the game!")

@Avilia: Oh, nice one! I'll admit, I did figure it was probably qunari the minute they mentioned horns but that somehow didn't get rid of the suspense and horror at the end when Nathaniel realized that it was just the first wave.
