The question then is, of course, how evil is he? And is he in fact even really evil? Yes, he'd have to be - anything else would be a cop out....

Hmm, good questions.  Nothing too AU (apart from the evilness).  I was thinking more "I'm inherently evil.  This thing you call politeness is actually a front and I'm really plotting your death."  Revenge would make it less evil and more 'angry Nate' imho.  He's too evil to even really care his family is dead even if he says he does.

This might bear more thinking.  I reckon it would work better if it could be worked into existing lore so its like "oh! Nate's evil, of course!" rather than "meh, Nate's evil, riiiight."

Might not be doable though...will let it perculate while I pretend to work this afternoon.

Oh oh!  What if he was playing puppet master to his father from the Free Marches!  I wonder if I could make Rendon a victim of Nate's plotting...muahahaha

OMG, I just saw that pic Zjarca posted. They look like father and son. I always thought Nate looked a bit like Tim Curry and that pic confirms it.

That's a rotten search function they have over there. Or perhaps I just can't drive it. Anyway, didn't find the story but if you say there is one, I'll discard my idea. I don't like to poach other people's ideas.

I agree though, I like seeing the same idea/premise written by different authors, you never know which one you'll like more in the end.

I agree: each story turns out different anyway, even if they are around the same idea. Like the prompts: everyone comes up with something unique

Is a story about Howe and the last night of the Couslands and his evil thoughts but to his surprise Nathaniel is there at the Castle as well, home early from the Free Marches.  Rated M for language and some rather vivid imagery but its an excellent story!

Evil Nate was friggin hot!!  I just finished a story this week (Sequel to my Teagan/Surana) that features more Nate and Anders than my first one did.  I wrote the sweet side of Nathaniel in my first story but the the whole tone of this new tale is a lot darker and Nathaniel shows his 'dark' side without being evil (I think).

ya my protagonist is kidnapped, raped and beaten within an inch of her life by Vaughan and then dumped into the water to drown.  Nate had always promised in the first story "I'll always have your back, Commander" and her getting taken that way just did a real number on his head. 
Needless to say, he wasn't happy with Vaughan...
And more broody Nate...is always good
