Whenever I encounter a reasonably large group of enemies, the game slows down a lot. At first it will freeze for a second or two, then everything will go slow, as in- annoyingly slow; often resulting in deaths to party members.
I really started noticing it in lothering during the first Chanter's Board quest; at that point I had just installed the patch which fixed game crashes- apparently at the cost of smooth gameplay.
Is there something that can be done to remedy this? If not I will be sure never to buy a Bioware product again.
My ps3 and game are both brand new, so there is no issue with damaged disc or console.

I have this issue as well, it started after I installed Awakening. Have you done so? What patch are you running?

Yes, it happens in Awakening sometimes - when large battles begin. In Origins I've encountered this issue a couple of times, but it's almost non-existent in Origins. I have 1.02 with all DLC installed.
The issue is present in Awakening and Darkspawn Chronicles.
