April Ryan is an amazing character. If I was doing a top three she probably would have ended up as my second place. The reason she isn't my number one is because of the events of Dreamfall. Ragnar Tørnquist kind of soured the plot and character for me with that game. Enough that it retroactively marred TLJ's version of April.

Considering the ending of TLJ, her change in character doesn't make any sense at all, at least not how it's explained in the game. She's still way better than the main protagonist, though...

Can't disagree with that. I wasn't too crazy about Zoe Castillo. The whole time I kept wanting to see what was up with April. The way Dreamfall was marketed, I thought we would get to play all three characters for extended periods. That was another disappointment. :/

John Marston

While I played him as an amazing **** I still loved him because he's the most human and likable character ever. He's a badass with a heart, he'll save you from a burning barn then shoot your father for money. I can't tell you any more why I love him without spoiling red dead redemption's ending which is something to be experienced.

I'm not sure if April herself was an amazing character. I think it was the game around her that left that impression, at least to me. She was a good stray from the traditional male-who-delivers-witty-lines character that reigned supreme until April and...err...the girl from Syberia and for that alone she gains a lot of points but as a character, I didn't find her that memorable. Then again, this thread is a matter of taste so...

Still, she is a good character and probably the best adventure protagonist after Guybrush and possibly Manny Calavera. Yes, even higher than Indy.

On April Ryan's change of character in TLJ2: I forget how many years it's been since the end of the first game and the start of the second, but I got the impression that April's since become sort of... jaded and bitter in the intervening time. Remember that in the first game, she's always been struggling with feelings of insecurity and worthlessness. Then she got to feel all special and unique by being a Shifter, and not only that, someone who literally saved the universe by restoring the Balance.



But after all of that... Ahhh, that's where reality started to sink in. So she saved the universe... but nobody knows about it (except Crow). There's no parades, no accolades, no cushy life of admiration and luxury to show for all of her hard work and sacrifices. She's once again just an ordinary person, and trapped in a world which isn't hers to boot. She's had to find a new identity and purpose for living again, and considering it's being some guerilla/terrorist who's constantly being hunted and trying to avoid detection, is it any wonder she's such a sour, angry woman now? She saved the universe... and got nothing for it.
