Origins was in development for 5 years, though. Or at least that's what
I've been lead to believe. If BioWare started development on DA2 in
March 2009, that would project it to early 2011, yes, but it still seems
way too soon. It'd give DA a shelf life of less than one and a half
years.

There is a difference though, this time they don't have to create the game engine from scratch or develop the lore for the universe. Most of what could be considered the lengthy work is done plus I don't see the next game being anywhere near the length of DA:O. No reason to assume they can't produce a full game in 2 years. Whether it comes out good or end up faltering due to being pushed out before it should are another matter though.

My 2 cents on this is that we WILL see some sort of Dragon Age and Mass Effect announcement sometime this next week at E3. I believe this for a few reasons.

1. The card in DA:Awakening hints at a february release of something Dragon Age related.

2. From what I remember from pre release stuff for Mass Effect I believe, now I may be wrong here and getting confused with Dragon Age announcements made before release, however I believe that Bioware said we may see a Mass Effect expansion.

3. A Mass Effect expansion would make for a great segway into ME3. Besides they have said that some future dlc for ME2 will lead into ME3, what better way for that then an expansion, in my oppinion.

So to summarize what I have said above I believer that we will see some Dragon Age and Mass Effect announcements at E3 but not for sequels. Hence the posting of ME3 and DA2 on the floor plans being removed, they are not ME3 or DA2 but just expansions.

Still hope that the feb2 thing is DA2, but could be another expansion too. A 2 years development time is about right for a game these days, even counting in a minor graphical update. The story could've even been done before DA:O was finished, which would cut down development time even further, who knows?

Well it was roughly 2 years and 3 months after Mass Effect was released that Mass Effect 2 came out so I dont think it is that big a stretch to believe that Dragon Age 2 could be done in around 2 years.

While I still think we will be seeing Dragon Age 2 (dispite the denial) I do think it is a bit of a stretch to believe that they will show anything related to Mass Effect 3, however stranger things have happened.

I can't imagine BioWare not making any E3 news besides just more The Old Republic stuff. Even if its just an official announcement of DA2 and a short trailer, I'll take it. If they don't do that now, would they wait until Gamescom at the end of August or just announce it some time later on its own? E3 just seems perfect to get the announcement that more Dragon Age is coming to a broad audience, even if its not there as a playable demo or anything.

But with ME3, I'd agree- it seems way too soon. Maybe an official announcement since everyone knows they're making it anyway, but I'd really, really doubt we'd see any sort of gameplay stuff.  I'd imagine ME3 is probably a late 2011 release, but then again, there is that "far reaching" Mass Effect thing EA hinted at for early 2011.

Surprises are good, lets hope we get some in about 17 hours=]

They'd announce it on their own. Anything BioWare releated is guarnteed to generate a ton of media buzz and hype, no reason to lessen it by announcing the products along side another dozen or so manjor annoucements and showings. E3 is great for new IP's and smaller companies, established titles from established firms really don't gain a whole lot annoucing major news at these big conventions.

True enough. BUt the thing that gets me is that unless they're going to delay the February release date, I'd think they'd at least announce and officially confirm that they're working on another DA game. I know it would be sharing the spotlight, but still, like you said its a freakin' BioWare game and what better place to get the word out than E3?

Thats just my hope to see something new and shiny DA related  though. Only got * checks watch* about 16 hours now till EA's press conference! WOO WOO!:o

Have to agree with OnlyShallow, I'm not convinced that the Feb 2011 date posted inside people's Awakening boxes has anything to do with the sequel. It "could" be that anime movie they are talking about. Hopefully (I'm hoping anyway) thats not it, and we'll see another expansion. I would love to see them finish up Origins properly. Tie up or cauterize the loose ends (yes making a pun here in regards to the "Good Doctors" :P) And then we can migrate, graduate..whatever you want to call it to something new and exciting.

Awakening was not all it was "cracked up to be", advertising and comments here on these forums from "official folks" gave us the idea that our choices would matter ..porting from Origins to Awakening. They did ..briefly and almost unnoticeably. That was a large disappointment.

Mr. Gaider talked about the "stages of acceptance" in one of his postings. I wanted to respond that...I haven't accepted what happened, I've thrown my hands up in the air and given up. Thats not acceptance, thats resignation. hehehe

I still believe Bioware can do better than that. Maybe I'm a fool for thinking such things..but I will keep thinking that til something happens that convinces me, that its time to toddle off somewhere else. :)

Watching and waiting, Bioware. :)

Damn, I forgot about the movie. That's an excellent point and it does make sense - After all, the press release does say 2011 release.

Back to the 2yr dev/release cycle - Dragon Age: Origins was released in November '09. The card says Feb '11. Now, that's 15 months, and I honestly don't think it'll be DA2 for that reason (along with others). Even if that is almost two years of development, it's just too close to release for them to announce it now - If indeed they do announce DA2 this year I'd expect a late 2011/Early 2012 release at earliest. For something the size and scale of the Dragon Age universe, I think 2 years wouldn't be enough, and we'd be looking at perhaps closer to 3.

EA already announced that DA:2 would be released next year in a conference call to investors. I'm guessing that at E3, Bioware will bring gameplay footage of Dragon Age 2, and as for Mass Effect 3, it's not too early for a teaser trailer.

An EA rep already quashed that rumour that DA2 and ME3 would be presented or whathaveyou at E3.

What? I was under the impression that if DA2 didn't show this year it never would.

Obviously, you did not buy Awakening which came with an advertisement card hinting at a major release in Feb 2011. Many of us suspect that it is DA2.

Indeed. ME2 have been out for like what...less than half a year? And Dragon Age for about seven months. It feels early to reveal their sequels now. I'm not against it in anyway, just find it strange.

Just spent time at the EA conference, no mention of DA 2, ME 3,  but they did portray a CGI movie for TOR,  great battle scenes.    I suspect that its TOR they're talking about for 2/2011 but I am still not sure.

That card was clearly Dragon Age related, so I'm now swaying to it being the DVD release and not a game.
