The One, really, we understand you're upset and it's natural to be.

But quit the self righteous attitude please. So, US players don't "cheat" or fake injuries? Only US leaders fake reason to invade a country and go to war?

Ever read this book?

The Cheating Culture: Why More Americans Are Doing Wrong to Get Ahead

Now read this article:

So why do soccer players fake injury?

I happen to agree with this article. They do it for the same reason a poker player will bluff when he has a chance!

If you’re caught in the act of faking an injury on a soccer field, you risk receiving a red card, and being sent off the field. On the other hand poker players who get caught bluffing, risk getting a certain reputation, and loosing a lot of money.

@RageGT
I would rather die than cheating
most of the time the players exaggerate the injury, to wish opponent team player gets yellow or red card.
and in other conditions for a fake free kick and penalty ... :pinched:

I thought we were talking about sports. Politics and ecconomics are a completely different area, and I may agree with you on every point you'd bring up there. So rather than veer into a completely unrelated topic, how about just keeping it to sports.
Like Adriano, I'd rather "die" (lose) than cheat.

Edit:
Actually, let's not even keep it to sports. Like I've said several times now, I don't want to continue to derail this thread. If you want to talk with me about it, send me a PM.

Another thing, care to explain me what the kid screams every time after a half/match? It sounds like "Je enaaaako" in Slovene which means "It's the saaaaaaaame!"

.
It's 'Ke Nako'
It means something like 'It's Time' (as in: 'It's time for Africa')

Actually, most of them do it when they have no more legs to play and they're winning and the game is right there at the end. I don't cheat either. Even in good old Diablo 1 I was a legit/purist even with all the duped goods around.. hehe

But my point is, it really doesn't matter if the other team player exaggerate the injury to win some time. When our team score and again and win in in spite of such theatrical, that's the biggest punishment for the other team because now they have no time to play again! I have seen this way too many times and I love when a team tries that fall and fake but gets a goal against nonetheless and then they are in such a hurry!

Get it? We win despite anything and when we can't it is because we didn't do what it takes.

EDIT: The One, we do not cheat because we can choose so. I wouldn't know if I were a pro soccer player and my team has the lead in the final 5 minutes of a World Cup knockout match. I might do it as well, if the other team player were dumb enough to touch me. It is a lot of pressure.

Other sports have it as well. Michael Schummacher, allegedly the second best driver of all times (after Ayrton Senna, of course) but with all the records did win his first title by throwing his car against Damon Hill in the last race of '94 season.

I used to love boxing and I've seen an unbeatable Mike Tyson destroy all his opponents usually in the first round. When he lost his first match to a guy I doubt anyone remembers the name without researching for it, I bet my soul it was a fix! And well, he could only go down after that although I admmit it, his biting the ears off of Holifield was the funniest thing in a bloody sport!

I agree with Felexea and Rage, diving isn't cheating, it's part of the game (and pretty much all of the reasons why are already mentioned)

Well that's why I got behind my American team. Because they don't pull that crap. Actually, when I first started watching the matches the first complaint I made was something to the effect of "sure I'll watch, but this is soccer, so I'll probably lose interest when they all start pretending to be injured." The response was "oh, well the American team doesn't really do that, so they're cool." I was surprised and I took more of an interest in the match. And it led to a lot of fun in the weeks that followed. But in the four matches I saw the US play, Ghana was by far the worst divers that played us. It sucked the fun out of the match to see them do that.

I have not been upset because America lost. That bit was just sad, but we got thoroughly outplayed. When that happens you lose and I can live with that. But no matter what, when I see players taking dives the only thought that's going to come to my mind is "what lousy sportsmen."

I already said it: this game belongs to the rest of the world and you all seem to like it as it is. That's fine. I think it's loaded with lousy sportsmen, and I've been reminded of why I've never liked it. Can't we just let that bit go and have it as water under the bridge? Because you're not going to stop liking the game, and I'm never going to stop thinking it's lousy sportsmanship and cheating.

I was too young to appreciate the story with Mike Tyson. But in looking back on it all, I have so little respect for the guy with how he reacted on his way down from the top. He couldn't last there forever and when better guys started to come around he started to fight dirty. That was sad.

Still, I'd rather lose the game than take a dive.

Think whatever you want, you are not in a position to make an informed decision, as you don't watch enough to make an assessment as to what the "majority" of the world plays like. I welcome your change in phraseology, however. And, if you want us to stop talking about your continued re-assertions of lousy sportmanship, maybe you should stop posting them and move on to a thread that has something that interests you more.

Ehh... this is starting to go to the flame war-ish I see?

Still, if we are here to talk about injustice, talk to England, that spent 2 minutes of the ref's added time against Slovenia to do nothing. Or to foul on a player on purpose so they had all 11 players in the box?

Or think of how Greece won Euro 2004? All defense, long ball, if it gets in they win, otherwise corner, goal, win. They won the whole Europe Cup of 2004 with this tactic! It was ridiculous!

Oh! I've just put Germany to play England in FIFA10 and after a nice start with Rooney scoring 1-0... match ended 5-1 ... to Germany!!! It never fails! The Gods of Football manifestate in strange ways for me..  wish I could change my prediction... weird though... England's keeper was Green and besides 2 goals by Klose, there were another 2 by M.Gomez and 1 by M.Ballack! hehehe

Morning all :)

@the_one, being an avid American Football fan, teams never 'timre waste' in that sport do they hmmmm? It happens, get over it.

@Rage, it was a fix. When he put Buster douglas down, he got up at 8, and was down for 3 seconds before the ref started the count, when Tyson went down, the ref started the count immediately, and Tyson was at 8, yet he stopped the fight....

That was the beginning of the end of Tyson, Don King wanted him out of the way (fake rape charges anyone?) as Tyson had sdiscovered that King had screwed him out of millions.....

But I digress......come on GERMANY! roflmao.

Lol, in spirit of the WC at F1, Jake Humpreys gave Sebastian Vettel a British flag and Glock gave Martin Brundle a German shirt:P

(and did anyone saw Webber trying to fly over Kovalainen? :) )

Im sorry I cant let this one go, The_One Clint Dempsey spent most of the second half rolling about on the ground, every time a Ghanian came near him he went down in a heap and lay there. I have nothing against him I think he is a good player but he was faking injury as bad as anyone else.

Taking the moral high ground after being beat isnt doing you any favours your coming across as the kind of fan who only likes it when they are winning. A plastic fan as they are called here. Like all those Chelsea fans who have suddenly come out of the woodwork.

I think Van Persie may have cursed his own team...

Saying things like that is just tempting fate to dump you out in the next round.
