That doesn't make it any less against the rules. That a manager would get angry with a player for not cheating is something that makes me sad.

When you are a children and you begin to play soccer the first things that your coach learn to you is how to cheat...

How to pretend they did a foul to you, how to provoke your opponent, how to cheat the referee, how to lose time in the final minutes if you are winning a match.. all those nice things which can help you to win a match...

This is soccer, and always will be...

Stop this against the rules b/s! It is not against the rules. It is very well written IN the fraking rules!

He didn't try to cheat the referee. If he had done it and tried to deny or get away with it like Henry or Maradona did, then you can say unsportsmanlike. What he did is written in the Rule Book of FIFA and it is a very valid action, as long as you take responsibility and pay the price.

As for the "biggest" match of his life... who's to say he'll not be in the one after that? The suspension BY THE RULE is for one match only.

Well that's why it's really not the sport for me. WC is exciting though.

The steroids thing is a really stupid issue in the US. The players do it because they're afraid to fall behind, but whenever they get caught, all kinds of horrible things are done to them. Trophies gone, stats gone, humiliation in the media. That's a really crappy part of US sports in general. There's just too much money involved is what the real problem is.

edit:

Hold on just a minute, Rage. Are you suggesting that a non-goalie touching the ball with his hands is not against the rules? It either is against the rules or it isn't. Fair play is not "accepting punishment," fair play is not breaking the rules.

Sure, he'll play in the third-place game against Germany.  ;)

GO URUGUAY GO!!!

Suarez just became my hero! Had not been for him and his handballing!

It's the perfect example of last resort! When all is lost, what will a man do to try to save the day?

I don't know why you people cry over this. He did something wrong and paid for it with a red card and a penalty (as stated by the FIFA rules) that could have costed Uruguay the game.

But then Ghana goes and misses! Hah! It's Ghana's stupidity. Not sad to see them go! Don't miss next time! :-p

Win is win! Way to go! Suarez for man of the match! X-D

Just like stopping a player with a foul is against the rule. Touching the ball with your hand deliberately is no more foul than kicking the opponent in the leg like that Dutch did early in the game. Both are Red Card plays by the book. One got away with it. It is no more foul than a defense hitting the opponent in the arms when he's going clean to the hop.

Now, which sport doesn't have foul? Tennis and Volleyball do not count, of course!

Wow what a night!

Uruguay played a good game, and so did Ghana. The save with the hand, to me, demonstrated what I talked about before: when it's crunchtime, you leave everything in the field. You get the red if you have to but you don't let the other team score! Uruguay's team isn't as athletic as Ghana's (or as speedy) but they handle the ball better and know the game better... and when extra time came along they could only hope to hold Ghana off until PKs.

Brazil on the other hand... wtf?! Someone change the coache's name to "Dung". Netherlands played very well and came back with style... But this game they didn't win, Brazil lost.

-- Off topic: Lauron, are you chearing for anyone or you just have target teams you want to see lose? lol

Agree Immortality, i couldn't belive when i was at work, when Ghana missed the spot kick, when your gifted that chance to win, you take it, and they failed, i had Uruguay to win anyway Posted Image

I'm glad Uruguay doing well, might be wrong so correct me if wrong here, they was the first team to win the world cup when it first started wasn't they? Nice to see small teams do well Posted Image

If you meant to say 'As if southern teams didn't do these kind of things', then I agree with you.

In the rare occasions that I watch a football game, wether it's league football or an international game, I always get annoyed by the players that try to get a penalty or free shot (however you call that in English) by being a drama queen (overreacting to a foul, provoke the other team, etc.), and every team has at least one such player. It's been part of the game, I have come to accept that. But some of them bring it to a whole another level, like the Portugese team in my opinion. I know I'm not the only one who thinks so because I've seen refs ignore at least fifty percent of the fouls that Ronaldo 'suffers'.

Yeah right. But still, trying to get dominion of the ball with the chest and have it hitting the shoulder/upper arm is not the same as deliberately putting your Hand to the ball as if it were a volleyball match! That was a nice "spike" by Maradona. Who had done a worse foul than Melo on Batista 4 years before and got a red card when they lost 1x3 to you know who.

I'm Fexelea on this. Brazil lost to themselves. What have they drunk in the half time break to come back so different, we'll never know but I'd bet on something of  "Athletes of Christ" cult ritual. I swear it, when Melo tried that heel and lost the ball, like Cerezzo in '82, I saw it coming.

LOL ! LOL! Why don't we also add some jail time? XD

I think you obviously don't know much about football, he didn't "change" anything, just go back and watch previous world cups! XD

In football the winners are the ones who take the opportunities, Ghana wasted their deeds. Too bad!

If you want 100% controlled games you need to start watching tennis, because in football you will watch opportunistic people in EVERY match. From faking fouls to hands, kicking and shoving. ALL the teams do it ALL the time in EVERY match. There are no innocent ones who "deserve" to win.

Adriano: Agreed. They need technology. Blatter needs to retire asap. :-)

By the way, a rethorical question: Do you for a second doubt that Ghana would have done otherwise having been faced with the same predicament? Don't think so... o_o

It's not a matter of which team cheats the most or who gets caught. It's a matter of how the game is conducted.

I think the referee in the last match was spot on. I would have been pissed if Suarez would have gotten away with it (who could forget Maradona in 86...), but he paid in full force as stated in the rules.
