Rage were you watching the first half??? That was not beautiful. It was restrictive, predictive "waiting for mistake" plays. I don't think you have any authority to state that I am wrong, I certainly don't think I am and what I saw did not make Germany look like the team I wish they were.

Edit: I'm the only one who calls them that? Oh please have a walk around England and ask about it, let's see what responses you get

People call the German game soulless and "efficient" because of the clichés against us. I think Brazil and Argentina played soulless tbh.

Brazil didn't play souless... Brazil did the best first half in this WC and then the worst second half in this WC.

Whatever happend in the locker room - and I have my theories since most of the players are kinds of fanatic evangelic for some wierd churches - I am sure it was not very good for the team as they have never played that much nervous before!

The pleasant to watch part was said by Falcão, who comments the games here. I think he has far lots of authority to say that, plus that Germany played a great match.

I think I know what Fex means.

But ultimately imo...it was 'simple' football....route 1. Pass, move, score.

It may not be pretty (lots of amazing dribbly runs etc).....no stunnign passes.....but then, when you play the game at its most simpest level.....its efficient, and as evidenced today....worked well.

Time to get the old definition of soccer back:

“Soccer is a game for 22 people that run around, play the ball, and one referee who makes a slew of mistakes, and in the end Germany always wins.”

But there were amazing passing and dribbly runs. That pass to Podolsky by someone who had been fouled and put to the ground pls his dribbling whoever faced him before giving it to Klose... that's perfect football!

Rage I don't care what Falcao finds pleasant to watch. It wasn't a beautiful game. It was a match well played by Germany, but again it was won with efficiency and by playing defensive until there is a clear win. That's not beautiful to me, and since I greatly enjoy football and I believe the soul of the game is in going all out (like Brazil SHOULD do), this looks souless

I didn't see fantastic passes or outstanding plays, the mayority of the game was predictable and repetitive, seeing Germany with at least a 5 player line in the back all the first half and mayority of second.

If Schweinsteiger's run had been made by Tevez, you'd be slobbering over its awesome display of skill. (And it *was* awesome.)

Confirmation bias.

Bias for what? I don't have a bested interest in either of those countries winning.

Bias in assuming that northern Euro = soulless and latin = beautiful

Argentina played soulless, there wasn't a team on the pitch today, just a bunch of primadonnas that thought they could roll the entire German defense on their own. Sorry Messi, but this isn't 1954 anymore.

I have no problem about the efficient thingy, ... I actually like that. It's that soulless part that bugs me, ... and others I dare to assume.

But let's not trap ourselves in petty word-wars on how we like the games or not. Let's look up and hope the next match today is going to be great too!

I am not assuming anything. I never said that northern european where sulless and latin were beautiful. I said this game was played like that. I don't think Argentina played a beautiful game at all, they were bad. I do think Germany played a soulless game, as they are known for doing and I was hoping would not this time around. There were good plays, of course, but there was no flair. I don't think Chile's football has soul over Netherlands, for example

What is soul in soccer, or soulful soccer or whatever, anyway?

Hello all... I just wanted to congrat the German crowd over here. Well played, fair victory. Sad result for us, but to be completely honest (and the Brazilians here can probably sustain my judgment) when I saw us playing before the WC (fighting for a place in it) I thought we could never pass the first round IF we got in. So no big surprise... Now I will support our other Latin-American teams... so GO PARAGUAY and GO URUGUAY...

Oh!! And by the way if I ever travel to Germany, instead of the German sausage I will eat every day OCTOPUS!  Image IPB

That's like saying "I am above answering your question."
If "soul" is such a big deal, you should be able to describe what it is.

LMAO

Argentina did play terrible and I was very surprised by their performance. This match, however, they didn't deserve to win. I don't think Paraguay have what it takes and Uruguay are dear to me for their 1930 victory but don't seem like a better team than Netherlands...

Your inferences are not of my creation. If you chose to interpret such meaning it is beyond my control.

The soul of a sport is not something that can be explained in a definition, like I can't explain to you what makes Jazz soulful. It is something you feel, not think.
