I have to say this was one of the dirtiest, most violent finals I have watched. Free kick to the chest wtf... and the heart failure is because of the inherent workout of the players, more of a cardio/respiratory shock from the blow that affects the player more than it would otherwise due to the running/jumping.
Also I feel sorry for the Octopus... everyone but Spain is threatening to go eat him and they had to beef up security in his aquarium... wtf

I can't see the pic, but I think it is save to assume it is the karate kick of De Jong, that was just unheard of.. why in the world would you do a thing like this, he should have been banned for life..Kaiser Shepard wrote...
Sweet mother of god...
This match was way to dirty, on both sides, but I am pround of our team. After 32 years we made it, as the small country that we are, to the finals once more and when I see this, the entire country agrees:

This was in Amsterdam, and in almost every city it was like this, the entire country coloured oranje

After having time to think about it are you still blaming the ref Kimo?
Druss99, while the loss of the Netherlands is of course their own fault, you can't ignore that not giving that corner (which the entire stadium could see/hear except for the referee) was the catalyst.

I might not be Kimo, but I'll take this chance to rant about the ref if you don't mind
Yes, the ref sucked. I don't understand why he took 109 (!) minutes to finally decide to send one of our players off the field - the wrong player, I might add. Heitinga didn't deserve a second yellow card for merely touching Iniesta (was it him? I'm not good at names
I'd rather lose with 10-0 with only 8 of our players on the field than this crap.
Spain was definitely the better team yesterday. But looking back on the entire WC, do I think they deserved the title? Errr...

Heitinga didn't deserve a second yellow card for merely touching Iniesta (was it him? I'm not good at names) shoulder. Puyol almost put all his weight around Robben's waist and got away with it. De Jong should've gotten a red card immediately after that giant kick. Van Bommel should've been sent off earlier in the game. Iniesta (was it him? I'm still not good at names
) should've gotten a card for pushing Van Bommel over after a tackle. Robben could've gotten another card for continuing to kick the ball in the goal while the ref already called off-side. I think one of the attacks by Villa was called off-side, while it wasn't off-side. And tons of other things. Yes, the ref wasn't good at all.
I'd rather lose with 10-0 with only 8 of our players on the field than this crap.

Well said though, I agree with you. There was a series of bad decisions for both teams and blaming the result on a corner kick not given is just making excuses. Van Bommel and De Jong should have been sent off in the first half, maybe Sneijder too he had a quite nasty tackle but not 100% sure if he meant it. Iniesta should have been off too. Spain could have had a penalty, Puyol could well have been sent off, Xavi was booked for kicking the ball away and Robben wasnt(would have been his second yellow). Ref had a nightmare but given the way both teams played it was never going to be easy for him. I think he didnt want to send anyone off because it was the world cup final and that didnt help. That game was an embarrassment for football.

I doubt the people in the US would ever care more about football than they do now. They've got their own 'football'.JHorwath wrote...
That game was a horrible game to have for a final. I enjoyed the 3rd place contest more than the final game. What a dissapointment. I agree with Druss as to think that game didn't go a long way to show case the sport to the people in America.

Some people like the World Cup, believe it or not. We just stink in the sport but the U.S.A is getting better. When the US was in the mix people around my town were excited. American Football is a billion times more popular but the World Cup is a great spectacle for those who love sport.
