I think Yakubu's was easier it was on the ground in the middle of the goal, it was actually harder to miss than score. Altidores was on the volley with defenders around him, but he still should have scored.

Yeah but then the ball came from the side. Yakubu got a bad angle to the ball instead of a 90 degrees he needed. Altidore had the ball with no side movement. A straight shot would do it.

The ball coming across him from the side doesnt make alot of difference, if it came across and he had to hit it with his near foot it would have been awkward, but since it came across his body it was a simple finish any sort of decent contact would have sent it into the net.
