You need to upload the pictures to some website first, then put img tags around the url.

Thanks Ieldra2, I was starting to wonder why it was not working but I have to go now so I'll try this in the morning.

Morning, everyone.

Here's some food for thought: What do you think of Miranda's genetic engineering? I've noticed that Miranda is one of very few cases where cutting-edge research in biology was a full success and didn't pose any thorny ethical problems. Sure, that Miranda's father wanted to make what amounts to a super-powered female version of himself is a bit creepy, but not more than that. The problems began where the genetic engineering was already done - with her upbringing and the way she got her biotics (if our speculation - see the Miranda Lawson FAQ - is correct).

Any more thoughts about this?

@Pwnisher:
Thanks. We can't hope to achieve Miranda's own awesomeness here, but we do our best.

As something of an unrepentant transhumanist, I'm in favor. Technology is the overcoming of limitations. Can't catch food? Make spear. Can't see in the dark? Genetically alter rod and cone structure. :D

Seriously though, I am in fact a firm supporter. One will be living in the body they're born with forever; if you have the opportunity to ensure it's of the highest quality possible, it's negligent to simply leave it to chance.

Ms. Lawson is a template for the rest of us.

Yes, that's exactly what I think, and that's why I wrote that she might "represent the future of humanity" in the Miranda Manifesto. If we want to overcome certain limitations, we can't depend on natural evolution, since natural evolution has no direction and basically filters nothing but the ability to survive until you've had children.

I wonder, though, if Miranda can see better in the dark... that doesn't seem a particularly important trait in a technological civilization, though it would add to her "superspy" template. Which career was, I'm very sure, not intended by her father.

And in a modern post-industrial world, evolution isn't really selecting for any particular traits but fate. Maybe you're a marvel of human genes but die in a habitat blowout. Maybe your code is riddled with recessive ailments, but you've got money and power and hence breed.

Depends on how legal he kept the modifications, I imagine. Actual nightvision is technically a "new ability", and thus illegal, but I could easily see the modifications including a greater range of light sensitivity. Faster pupil reaction for glare, better light uptake for what I guess you could call "dim vision"...once you're rebuilding the code to get an extra 50% lifespan I imagine some optical work is a drop in the bucket.

That was always the one that got me. "Half again as long as an average human". Based on the Alliance average, she'll be something close to two hundred and thirty when she does die. We don't even have a frame of reference for that. Elderly Miranda is going to be a very interesting person.

That's why it's called "transhumanism", isn't it?

Elderly Miranda is going to be a very interesting person.

Or - pardon the blasphemy - a very boring one. It all depends how the brain develops and how much you retain the ability to learn things. But yes, assuming she does retain the ability to learn and to mentally adapt to new times, she'll have a perspective no other human has yet achieved.

@Darth Cheesecake:
Of course I remember you. Welcome back.

And about the old Miranda?

I'm guessing that all the genes that cause neural degeneration with age would have been removed.

So senility would probably not be a problem.

And if people are living to 150 then that would imply that we'd keep our cognitive functions much longer than now.

So I don't see her becoming some boring old shut in.

Sorry if I can't summarize everything that's been going on on the laste 1000 pages or so since you left. But we've been a lot more on-topic for the last 300-400 pages of thread 2 and for this one. A few old regulars left, as I'm sure you've noticed, among them DarthReavus, which is why we have this shiny new thread. Anything really big is either part of the new OP or linked there, so you might want to check it out. Yannkee's Miranda tribute video is among the most notable additions. Some new fanfic links as well, and it might be you have missed gutty47's Miranda dialogue tree (linked in the OP). If you're looking for certain screenshots, either try Yannkee's screenshot gallery or ask me.

The problem is that decay of mental functions is not only influenced by your genome. Mental processes tend to get streamlined into set pathways as you get older, and you have to work to keep your mental flexibility. I don't see Miranda getting "boring old shut in", but it's going to be a problem if the longer lifespans become common. There is already talk of becoming an inflexible gerontocracy where "status quo is god" in some of those countries where people get older and have fewer children. No unsurmountable problem, but it has to be taken into account.

I think she's to action oriented for that to happen.
My grandfather's 98 and he still jogs a mile and a half to work everyday.

Not only that he went to a metal concert last month.
I think he thinks he's 40.

Rejections video? I'm not sure what you're talking about, but if you mean videos of scenes where Shepard rejects a romance, I guess these won't be popular here. I certain don't know of any.

My reaction to a Miranda game: :o

I wouldn't mind a Miranda novel, but I'd prefer someone besides Drew to write it. Or a "Miranda Lawson: Agent of Cerberus" comic. I'd think I was in heaven, especially if they could bribe Ed Brubaker away from Marvel. Or maybe Rucka.

not rucka, definitely brubaker, brian k vaughan, warren ellis, geoff johns

Morning all.

My copies of Redemption and Alpha Protocol should arrive today. I'm tingling with anticipation, and probably won't be around much after lunch.. Going to do my best to play my first game as a male version of Miranda. I finally get to play a spy in an RPG!

Morning, jtav. I've just noticed that Alpha protocol is available for the PC. Now I need to decide if it's worth it in spite of the less likeable aspects. Reviews weren't too good. Tell me how you like it when you're further in....

While I'm at it: i'm still collecting all reasons why people like Miranda, for the FAQ. Since nobody answered me yesterday, I'll post it again. What I have so far:

(1) She's supercompetent in several fields. There's less of a power imbalance between her and Shepard, which makes her a perfect companion for him.
(2) Her moral ambiguity - always more interesting than the black-and-white types.
(3) Emotionally detached - enough to be fascinating and refreshing, but not to much as to be unlikeable. Perfect balance.
(4) A spy with superpowers. Irresistible to some (I'm one).
(5) She's human (yes, that does matter for some in a romance, like me, so don't tell me it shouldn't)
(6) Engineered to be perfect - she might just be the genetic destiny of humanity.... ;)
(7) It helps that she's beautiful (tell me she isn't and I'll give you a few screenshots).

Anything else?
