Easier found this way.

Other than that, I'm back at my home base after my expedition into the hostile territory of the XO thread. Yannkee, you're right: trying to convince IanPolaris he isn't perfect is a waste of time, but at least others who read the thread have different viewpoints to choose from.

Exactly. I had to come to terms with it, since most of my Shepards are Sole Survivors - I don't like the Ruthless and War Hero backgrounds much.

Technically, sole survivors aren't sole survivors. Corporal Toombs survived the same attack.

Here's an interesting question for you guys; if you could change anything about Miranda's character and romance, if anything, what, and how would you change it?

In an effort to become a less-biased fan I've been doing non-talimances, and in Miranda's case I decided I personally would change the following;

1. A bit more background on why she's so *insecure* about her background. She's competent, attractive, and intelligent, and puts those traits to good, valuable use. I don't understand why it bothers her how it occured. Within the game, she takes the gifts she is given and more than earns it.

2. I feel like the fact that her romance is the most revealing, is both bad and good for her. Good, in that hey, who doesn't wanna see it? Bad, in that in portrays her as...fling-ish, rather than a true romance. I think that hurts her popularity and overall appeal, particularly to people like me.

Other than that, it's a very polished romance, and I understand, even if I don't reciprocate, her popularity.

I personally wouldn't want to change anything about Miranda's character - she's interesting and well-rounded enough as she is. On your points:

1) In terms of being "bothered" about her background she does make it clear that she is genetically modified, in an attempt by her father to create: "...he didn't just want a perfect daughter, he wanted a dynasty", something that would have a lasting effect and appeal and it seemed to me that her father was just treating her like a trophy. Shepard picks up on this very quickly with the line "It sounds like you were meant to be a tool...to be used...". True, she takes the gifts/abilities that she has and uses them to good effect but I was also quite surprised that she looks to Shepard for support so willingly...wanting something in return for overseeing Shepard's "resurrection" from Project Lazerus perhaps.

2) I don't think the romance was "fling-ish", more liberating certainly for Miranda but maybe also for Shepard as well. The one thing that I did find strange was her choice of location, but that has been discussed here and elsewhere before.

(1) I would give her a less ridiculous outfit

(2) I would move the love scene to the back part of her room, or - preferably - to an observation chamber with a transparent dome that would be added to the Normandy. The scene would include biotics as per Mordin's suggestions and be made more in style of ME1, i.e. less aggressively sexual in mood, while realistically showing a bit more at the same time.

(3) I would change two parts of her dialogue: "Everyone needs to know...." with something more to the point like "I won't share you.", and "This feels like a betrayal" with something like "We need this base, but I'm starting to fear what the Illusive Man will do with it."

1. A bit more background on why she's so *insecure* about her background. She's competent, attractive, and intelligent, and puts those traits to good, valuable use. I don't understand why it bothers her how it occured. Within the game, she takes the gifts she is given and more than earns it.

The attitude is irrational, but people who've been through the kind of chiuldhood problems Miranda has been tend to be irrational about things so closely associated with that time. It's no big mystery. Between her own intelligence and someone who tells her she gives her father too much credit in a way she can believe it, I think she'll get over it. TIM won't do that for her - she's more amenable as his tool the way she is. So it's no surprise the attitude didn't change in the years she worked for Cerberus.

@Elyvern
Tali stated she's a virgin and she was the most aggressive out of the bunch.  Jack has slept around a lot and she's the least agressive against Shep.  Miranda never really talks about sex and so I'll respect that and not make any assumptions. (I hate makeing assumptions because I can be wrong and I really hate to misjudge people in real life).

I would change absolutely nothing (or maybe her default outfit).
I accept the whole character, with her flaws.
If some people think that her romance is a fling that's their problem.
I personally think that her romance is the most meaningful. The conversations between Miranda and Shepard already showed they have strong feelings and really care about each other, and a passionate sex scene won't change that into a fling.

I don't have problems with someone who has a different opinion than mine, I don't like someone who think that his opinion is the only truth. And this guy is a good example of someone who will never admit that you could have a different opinion than him.
What annoy me the most is the "military" excuse. I am military and I think she could be an excellent XO and an excellent leader in real life. (I would be glad to have someone like Miranda as chief)

I've recently been watching the first season of Chuck and I can't help but draw parallels from Sarah Walker to Miranda Lawson. Secretive, intelligent, sexy officer in a secretive organization who ends up saving everyone - except it's sorely lacking Shepard. Chuck is funny, but he's a huge nerd.

It makes me want to know more about Miranda's history. I don't have an iThing so I can't play Mass Effect Galaxy (which I'm not sure adds to Miranda's plot at all anyway), but I would love a DLC or expansion or something all about Miranda - from rescuing her sister, to living on the run, all the way up to her meeting TIM and eventually being assigned to the Normandy. Miranda is easily at the top of the list of my favorite ME characters and I'd jump at the chance to learn more about her past.

You echo my often-voiced thoughts. I've been known to say - as has jtav - that Miranda needs her own game! Unfortunately, that - or even a dedicated DLC - seems not very likely.

@Yannkee:
Agreed. It pains me to let IanPolaris have the last word, but he will never stop. I've been playing BG2 for two hours or so, that's more fun.

There's just so much we don't know, and therefore so much that could be explored... I think Miranda's own game is a brilliant idea, however unlikely it may be. At the very least, her own novel....
But we can dream, can't we? :unsure:

Morning ladies and gentlemen. As an FYI, LuxDragon has punted up the latest chapter of Fight for the Lost. The last part of the chapter should be rather familiar to all of us, and done rather well, if I do say so myself.Posted Image

Hmm. fanfiction.net responds with "Chapter not found"....

Edit:
Five seconds later, it's there. No idea what that was.

Yeah, that, plus NO ASS SHOTS. Period. Just ridiculous. Whole outfit. Ridiculous.

Also, no "I just want to get you into bed" line (unless they make it renegade) and no fling-ish elevator dialogue.

In regards to the sex scene, I believe what they showed would be seen as less cheap and sexual if they had just handled the scene differently. How the scene plays out is everything.

Yep. The whole game isn't big on subtlety, with Shepard steamrolling his way to victory, thoroughly flattening any attempt at subtlety on his way. But the ass shots go over any reasonable limit. The default outfit does, too.

I have no objection to "I just want to get you into bed". It's clearly a joke, and I don't mind it. Miranda also doesn't mind it. But the trigger line on the dialogue wheel is misleading. And...hmm...perhaps it would be better on the Renegade side, because, you know, Paragons don't joke. They're always serious. Compassionate and empathic, but dead serious. Yes, the line is definitely Renegade. :P

Yeah the paragon option at that point bothered me always, it's one of the only times for me ( along with other romance conversations, I don't remember any non romantic conversation where I would've been unhappy with the dialogue), when I was really annoyed what came out of the guy's mouth.

While Paragons, imo, aren't always dead serious, still in that situation it was so renegadish.

Don't bother with Mass Effect Galaxy.  There's nothing about Miranda's history in it and Miranda hardly has any dialogue in it.

Yes, Miranda needs her own game/novel/comic. She's so terribly interesting. As for what I'd change, I'd like it if she was colder for longer. I liked Lazarus Station Miranda, As for her romance, I've gone on at length about that elsewhere. Suffice to say, I'd like to rebuild the whole thing from the ground up.
