I like the salute and I prefer that scene to the love scene because of the character development and genuine respect she shows.

Yeah.

I proberly get flamed  for this but I really don't like the Miri romance. But on the other hand, I think she has by far the best friendship path of any of the new squadmembers.

I don't like her romance either, but I do like the friendship path, such as it is.

Kaidan would be great for her. They're both highly professional introverts who prefer to analyze situations and refuse to wear their heart on their sleeve. They work for organizations that aren't really worthy of them. He's more idealistic than she is, but isn't stupid about it. They'd be like peanut butter and jelly.

You'd eat *that* together? *shudders*

I do try to play Shepard as a more fitting companion for Miranda, but the dialogue choices make that a very hard prospect.

See? No flames. I don't agree with you, I like about 90% of the romance, but you can like Miranda but not her romance. I even understand. I just don't agree.

@annihilator:
Thas has already been posted on the previous page. Too late. Sorry.

Five days a week for six years. The cafeteria food at school was horrible. "Going together like peanut butter and jelly" means they go together really well. I'm not sure if there's a German equivalent.

I do like the concept of Miranda falling for someone in Shepard's role, but I'd handle it differently. The trouble wuth canon romances ist that you have to like the idea of the pairing and the way it happened (mostly). Different tastes in romance strikes again.

to stay on topic, I think this quote reminds me of Miranda and Jack....

"The greatest form of control is when you think you're free when you're being fundamentally manipulated and dictated to. One form of dictatorship is being in a prison cell and you can see the bars and touch them. The other one is sitting in a prison cell but you can't see the bars but you think you're free."

I am. And I wouldn't mind at all if the ladies interacted. Their tenative friendship was one of the few things I liked about the comic.

Which, I highly doubt, is likely to happen unless they interact via sign language on Miranda's part. (I'm assuming Liara gets voiced, since it's her DLC after all), but judging from Overlord, it's likely only Shepard, Liara +1 to 2 other DLC related NPCs that will be voiced.

I really liked the tentative friendship between Liara and Miri in the comic too. Ah well...

Of course it will affect you. I never said it shouldn't. You do change from experiences, even if they are second-hand. The question is, how? Will you have the fortitude to continue your life and find meaning in what you do regardless? Will you find something else to do and find meaning in that? Or will you be torn apart by it? Really, I don't think any intelligent person can look at the world and not suspect that there are nightmares beneath the surface of our everyday experiences. I can't understand how anyone can even remotely believe in the concept of a comforting illusion. And, yes, I do believe it's possible to have enough empathy to understand and enough mental fortitude not to be destroyed by it.

(As an aside, coming from an CoC rpg session, I have never understood why the people in J.P.Lovecraft's stories go insane because the world isn't as they thought, uncomfortable as it is to accept that the universe is ruled by eldritch abominations who don't care about humanity. You experience new truths, you adapt. That's the mark of maturity)

Knowing vaguely that there are monsters under the bed is quite different from seeing them and knowing exactly what they are, I think. This is probably why so many soldiers come back from war completely broken while civilians who just read the historical account don't. It's also why Shepard has had such an uphill battle convincing the galaxy of the Reapers' existence.

J.P. Lovecraft's world overdoes it a bit, but I can understand it. Human beings need at least some stability to function and we construct our own realities to provide that stability. The Cthulu mythos takes that reality and completely turns it upside down.

That's why I think it's likely she'll
end up with someone with a job not too different from her own. Likely,
but not certain. You never know what people can, or cannot, understand.
I think if they're willing, many people can, and don't believe the "I
don't want to know" types are as common as fongiel seems to believe. I
think Miranda's own high standards are the biggest factor in the
question of how difficult it is for her to find a long-term
relationship. Understanding is not so rare. Her own level of
competence, paired with it, that may be. Still no reason for depressing
thoughts. In my games she's almost always with Shepard, but I'd pair
her with Kaidan in a blink and think it would be an extremely
successful match. High-tension for a time, though, until they've worked
through their differences about Cerberus and recognized that ultimately
they work for the same goal.

BTW: as hard as it is for some to fathom, she might just be happy without a relationship.

I'm not saying the vast majority of people are deliberately sticking their heads in the sand. I'm saying that the vast majority of people live very comfortably in some state of self-delusion and thus might not be able to handle the truth. When Shepard asks Jacob why he'd never heard about Jacob's mission, Jacob explains that the Alliance is deliberately hiding it so that the masses don't realize how fragile the system is or how close it all came to crashing down. Why would the Alliance do this if it thought the majority of the population would be able to just shrug and carry on with their lives?

I agree with you on your last point though. I don't think Miranda necessarily needs a partner to find peace or some kind of happiness.

I wish someone would have told me that, just because I'm a girl, I don't have to get married. ~Marlo Thomas

Also goes for being in a relationship ( at least in my veiwpoint) Miri could get along fine without Shepard, and other people to "warm her bed." All she would need is a friend that she could trust for a lifetime.

Don't know about your Shepard, but mine can fit this role.
And as a reward, she also found someone who loves her. :P

No she doesn't need Shepard or a romance. She does need someone who she feels she can trust enough to let her barriers down and she needs to learn to learn to let those barriers down a little. I worry about her in my Renegade games.

Even in my Renegade runs I find it extremely difficult to be mean to my squadmates. It seems really off for me to mess with them like that. So when I do my Renegades I never take it too the ship. its always taken out on the people I kill in the world.

I worry about her more in my Paragon games. In my Renegade games I still get her to talk to her sister though, so I guess they're not pure Renegade playthroughs (I see the Oriana situation as neutral - pushing Miranda to talk isn't Renegade or Paragon). Paragon Shepard is more of an impossible ideal than a real person. I think a partly Renegade Shepard could better relate to Miranda than his saintly counterpart.

So Liara DLC is coming sepember 8th.

I'm glad for those who will be able to continue their romance (not really a surprise to me). But I hope there will be other interesting things for my Shepard who loves Miri exclusively.

This is something I probably should have posted awhile ago, but I haven't been frequenting the forums in a bit.

I wanted to get your opinions on my Miranda/Shepard scene at the end of the chapter in my fic.

http://www.fanfictio...ht_for_the_Lost

It only took me 25 chapters to get there too. Huh...Posted Image

I'm thinking of a game where Oriana wasn't spoken to and she and Shep aren't close. She has nothing but an idealized picture of a sister she's never met. That's not healthy.

September 8? Yippee. Liara is actually my favorite option for a MaleShep. Pity I can't play it.

I'm excited for this too.  I'm holding out hope there will be dialogue for other characters, but that might be too much to wish for. Does anybody know how much it will cost? If it's more than usual, hopefully that means it will also be bigger and longer than the other DLC.

Why can't you play it, jtav?
