Okay man. How about you?

I should keep it brief. I haven't been posting here much lately, usually lurking instead so I don't want to fill the thread with too much OT stuff.

Miri is a brunette and always will be.

BW change the hair colour to give more "fame fatale" look to Miri... so they won't change it back to blond.

Nice, but in this scene Miranda looks better with the original lighting. I have another wallpaper with Miranda from this scene (the one with the cityscape background), and she does look better there.

Point taken Ieldra. Apparently writing romantic speeches isn't my strong suit.

I wish they'd been closer to Strahovski in some ways. Miranda spends to much time in the Uncanny Valley. She's supposed to be stunning, but she looks like she was designed by someone who'd been given a list of features but no sense of how to put them together to make a whole.

I really don't see the problem with the design, maybe the outfit is a bit over the top. I don't know, but I do know this. Miranda is the best modeled women I've seen on any game I've played. The only problem is the smile animation which looks bad on all the humans and even Samara.

I agree with the lighting being an issue. The first three settings where we see Miranda (Lazarus, Cerberus station, Horizon) she looks amazing in those shots (some of my favourites are the first meeting and inside Veetor's bunker). It seems sometimes like characters (specificly Miranda) are rendered in higher detail when in certain dilogue scenes. Or maybe it's the lighting.

Hey Shinobi, I highly doubt you remember me. I left the Miranda group about 3 months and two days ago,. (I just opened my inbox and still had the message). Afterwards you sent me a message asking why I left and I responded it was because I thought the romance was nothing more than a fling. I had to look back at the romance a few times, but I've finally come back around to it. It is actually onr of my favorite romances now ^_^. That's a reason why I think she gets a lot of hate from other fans. I don't think most of Miri's haters have looked closely at her character/romance. But of course theres a million Anti-Cerberus people out there who hate Miri due to association, and then there's the rare person who has genuine reason for disliking her.

Anyways, welcome back, and hello ^_^

Oh, and regarding Miranda in certain lighting, take her to talk to Kenn on Omega. Worst lighting in game by far. No single squadmate looks good in that lighting, Miranda included. Where I think she looks best actually, is in Veetor's hideout on Freedom's Progress. The monitor's give off a orangish glow that looks fantastic on her.

She spent two years on a space station (no sun), and I don't think Miranda is the type of person to use self tan or spend any amount of time in a sun bed.;)

Why, is writing fanfic bad for you? I think we'd all appreciate another good Miranda story. There are too few of them.

I write for a living, and am chronically incapable of crafting short fics, which results in many mystified friends and loved ones wondering why I spend so much time writing things for free. Posted Image

I pray we have a good chance at getting a light set of armour for Miranda. If it doesn't come with a collar (like Shepard's Kestral pack), then hair clipping wouldn't be an issue. As for helmets, they'd need to make a skin that removes the hair, before placing it on, just like for femshep. I do hope Bioware takes complaints about visors/glasses obscuring eyes to heart.

You're not the only one. jtav and I have had the same vision for quite some time, possibly differring a bit in details. Regarding her role, not necessarily Shepard's. I don't know yet what I'll envision my Shepards to do after the big conflict is ended. I won't limit my imagination to the Spectres, though - the Council really isn't the most appealing employer after all they didn't do.

No indeed, but I find it hard as well that Shepard would return to the Alliance. I'm no military nut, but if my interpretations are correct, Lieutenant Commander is about the last "combat rank" in an officer's career before he or she gets placed in charge of strategic locations and assets like warships, and considered too valuable to be wasted on the field. I'm always a little mystified that Shepard opted to join the Navy branch which fast-tracks officers into ship command considering how he's such a superb commando and ground troop officer. Or how the original Normandy didn't have a standing unit of gropos. How would Shepard fare as a ship captain? What's his grasp of space battle tactics? These are things we don't know about. How would he deal with being promoted to an Admiral where he has to step lightly around bureaucracy and politics?

While these are difficult questions to answer and may likely depend on how you imagine and play your Shepard, I see it as my Shepard's possible Achilles' heel, only Achilles' heel even when you consider how much of a Mary Sue/Marty Stu Shepard can be. Combat performance deteriorates with age. A change of heart may make it suddenly unbearable. Shepard knows he cannot expect to go around blowing things up forever.

He's definitely not ambassador material, paragon or renegade, and what would he do with a single stealth ship? Become a galactic vigilante? That may have worked if he hadn't become the saviour of the galaxy in the first place. My Shepard is beginning to ask himself what else can he do, if he'd want to return to the alliance, rise in the command ranks and be benched. Or end up as James Dean of the ME universe, go out in a blaze of glory and never needing to address that issue.

I'm also sadistic in the sense that I would want to "seperate" Shepard and Miranda. Two such overwhelming personalities in a romantic relationship, seeing each other every day is recipe for disaster. I haven't given it much thought, but right now, I see a long-term relationship between them as only possible if they don't see each other that often. Since both of them are so committed to work and are relatively emotionally independent, absence will not weaken their relationship, but rather strengthen it. That's the way I'd take it anyway.

In Lazarus and Cerberus stations most of the lighting is ambient lighting (i.e. omnidirectional). It may also be a different color (white instead of tinted with...something I can't quite identify). Which is why you see less of the black shadow effects that make getting good screenshots of her so hard in the rest of the game. It's also responsible for that washed-out look you might notice when starting a new game after having played elsewhere for a time. It's usually an advantage for Miranda, in spite of the grayish tint her face tends to get there, because she looks more natural and her face more detailed.

See the difference in these screenshots:

1. Miranda on Lazarus station. Note how the lighting smoothes the contours of her face - the spotlight effect is still there, but a lot less noticeable than in other places. It may not seem like it, but this lighting is more natural than almost everywhere else.
Posted Image

2. Miranda on the Normandy. Note how the scene spotlight enhances the contrast, sharpening lines we usually don't notice in natural lighting, and how it gives her face this almost artificial doll-like color.

You're probably right about Lieutenant Commander being one of the last "frontline" ranks, although looking at the Alliance military rank system and comparing it to modern militaries, I might even say Staff Lieutenant is the last frontline rank. Shepard may be a special case because of his N vocational code and Spectre status.

On Shepard joining the Navy, I don't remember this ever being the case. The Alliance Navy and Marines are very closely linked and use the same ranks so this might be a cause for confusion. If I had to guess, I'd speculate that their structure resembles that of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps, where the Marines are more a sub-branch of the Navy rather than being a truly independent branch of their own (the U.S. Marines answer to the Secretary of the Navy). Shepard is probably a Marine, rather than a Navy officer, given his vocational code (N7). As for the original Normandy, its ground crew consisted of Shepard, Kaidan, Jenkins/Ashley, and likely a few others. If you recall, there were always two marines stationed outside the briefing room and one at the top of each staircase. Being a frigate, the Normandy will only carry a small contingent of marines (Revelation talks about this a bit) so a complement of seven marines sounds very plausible.

On Shepard's qualifications as a ship captain... I always wondered about this as well. Naval combat is very different from commanding a unit on the ground. Commanding a military spacecraft in a three dimensional battlespace would complicate things even further. Shepard is probably mediocre at best when it comes to commanding a warship, as his training is primarily in ground combat and small unit tactics. I think it would have made more sense for Shepard to have someone else captain his ship,  with him retaining overall command of the mission. Maybe the SR-1 (and possibly the SR-2) have an experienced enough crew that they can make up for Shepard's lack of proper training? It may also be that the two Normandys are stealth ships (they can easily avoid fighting) and intended primarily to get Shepard and his team from point A to point B. Because their respective missions don't involve regularly engaging enemy ships in combat, this lessens the need for Shepard to be a 22nd century reincarnation of Nelson.

While these are difficult questions to answer and may likely depend on how you imagine and play your Shepard, I see it as my Shepard's possible Achilles' heel, only Achilles' heel if you want when you consider how much of a Mary Sue/Marty Stu Shepard can be. Shepard and Miranda may not have to slow down for a while. They've both been enhanced extensively and in Ascension it's mentioned that humans don't deteriorate physically as quickly as they do in the present. In Ascension I believe it's even mentioned that human women can have children naturally in their 80s (?!). I hate to be a pessimist, but given the amount of combat Shepard sees, I'd be surprised to see him still alive in ten years. He does seem to beat the odds on a regular basis but the odds of his living to see old age, much less dying in bed aren't fantastic. (Yes, I realize he's a fictional character but sometimes it's fun to apply real world rules into a fictional world)

I see Shepard and Miranda likely separating as well, although in my version of events, they actually break up. The break up would likely be amiable, given their emotional independence (as you mention) but they'd likely still have very strong feelings for each other. In two people as purpose-driven as Shepard and Miranda, stable longterm relationships are probably difficult to maintain and a "happily ever after" ending is extremely unlikely.

Guys, I need help! I really want to do this fic well and I am struggling to understand Miranda's father's motivations. Please give your imput...

1. What do you think was her father's plan with her creation?

2. What do you think was the reason why Miranda left, what could have been the tipping point?

1. I really don't know. I'm willing to leave it at Miranda's explanation - he was trying to build a dynasty and Miranda and her sisters were meant to be the heirs to that dynasty.

2. Somebody else has probably already suggested this somewhere (if so, I'm sorry for plagiarizing), but my guess would be Oriana's birth/creation. If Miranda is intended to be an heir, Oriana would have been created either to supplant Miranda (meaning Miranda was unable to meet her father's expectations) or act as a backup in case Miranda proved inadequate.

Regardless of the reasons for Oriana's creation, her father seeking to create a potential replacement for her would make Miranda realize the extent of her father's madness and the impossibility of ever meeting his expectations (although knowing how intelligent Miranda is, she likely suspected this already). Not wanting to end up like her older "sisters" and unwilling to allow her father to subject Oriana to the same trials he put her through, Miranda finally decided to grab Oriana and make a run for it.

yeah i did that one (citadel cityscape), though i lost the psd file when my usb drive went missing... you can tell my stuff because i generally don't blur the edges (relying on good cutouts and edge refinement in photoshop for quality), though blurring makes the edges easier to tidy and forgives minute imperfections more easily.
