I agree with ShadowJ20 about this :

What most likely happened was that Jacob was turned down by Miranda. If you play the male Shepard and ask Jacob "You have history with Miranda?" he says...
Jacob-"It got a little close. Then it got really far apart."
Shepard-"Just looking for insight on her character. I find her interesting."
Jacob- "Right. Can't help you there commander. If I had any idea what made her tick, I'd be with her or I'd be dead."
Jacob-"That's all you really need to know."
Shepard-"Sour Grapes?"
Tick-What makes one function characteristically, what motivates one
Sour grapes -is an expression that means denial of the desirability of something after one has found out that it cannot be reached or acquired.
This makes sense because Jacob said "She requires a better man than I."

I think I'm the only one here who likes that she had something with Jacob. I love it when characters have romantic histories that extend beyond the protagonist.
More background info - more interesting characters. It's something I can relate. And that was why I found the thread interesting, if nothing else, it reminds me that I usually forget that Jacob has some kind of impact on Miranda's life and both of them share a history. It doesn't neccessarily need to be a romantic relationship, but whatever it is, it's more fodder to gnaw my teeth into about Miranda.
And this mouse behaviour is driving me CRAZY!

Jacob is the last person I would imagine to have a romantic story with Miranda.
Saying that Miranda requires a better man than him is probably the most intelligent thing he said during the whole game.

Hmmm, must have missed that. Wonder why the texture isn't showing differently for the lips, hmmm....Elyvern wrote...
Gorgeous pic, Jeanluc, but I think you need to differentiate her lips? She looks like death warmed over at the moment.

I have to say that while writing my fanfic I'm beginning to find this more plausible. On the other side, she values emotional safety and the company of someone she can trust. Depending on her mood, I can see her waking up with someone she loves and trusts, and this turning into something more passionate, quite as well as her pulling her partner into a niche deep within the guts of an old refinery, in the middle of one of her operations. Both seem in-character for her, which I find very interesting. She is definitely not a simple woman (no, Mr.Hudson, I won't let you forget this).jtav wrote...
Just read the entire thread Elyvern linked. Would people just let the engine room thing go? I think Bioware really didn't think it through, but there's nothing wrong per se with sex in the engine room. My personal theory is that Miranda gets a bit of a thrill from having sex in places she isn't supposed to. There's nothing wrong with that.
BTW, does anyone know who wrote Miranda in ME2?
Edit @all:
Ignore the troll, please.

Why, if I may ask? I didn't play Mass Effect: Galaxy, so I can't speak for their relationship in that game. But Jacob and Miranda are different enough to fulfill the "opposites attract" cliché. Or maybe Miranda just has a thing for protagonists.

Definitely. I prefer canon-compatible stories myself, but there's no reason it can't be good just because it isn't compatible (any more).jtav wrote...
I like Liara a great deal. The only thing I'm worried about is my current project probably won't be posted until after LotSB and it will no doubt contradict canon. Think I'll be okay if I slap a note on it?

Jacob isn't the worst possible match, but he does act like a complete ass on several occasions. I thing Miranda does have a thing for protagonists. That is, one of her fuctions is as a trophy/ego boosts fpr the player. "Look at the hot girl I'm (through the player character) sleeping with." It's by no means her only role, but it's there.
