Then I pray for a slow and painful death.

Won't happen in this part, I'm afraid. I'm writing fully canon-compatible, with the idea that my story could be interwoven with the ME plot without contradictions as some sort of hidden backstory. I do have an idea for a fitting end, though. If I can keep this up and there isn't an end to him in ME3, maybe I'll write that as an epilogue.

I've only written him as being cold and controlling and institutionalizing his rejects, with Miranda on the verge of being locked away herself. Your scenario (and worse--I get serious Lazarus Long vibes from this guy) has crossed my mind, but I don't trust myself to handle it well.

If the plot required that Mr."Lawson"'s (I have a different name for him) unknowing goons actually had gone through with that they were planning, I doubt I would've been able to write about it. Fortunately, there was no need to go that far.

As for Lazarus Long, I can't recall anything particularly evil about these stories, though it's been a very long time since I read them. What "vibes" do you get?

Long wasn't if I recall correctly. I was referring simply to him fathering children by his daughters because his genes were that good. There is something not incestuous exactly, but more than a little creepy that Miranda was designed to look the way she does by her father.

I've stuck to what I've said earlier here, so yes, you know. Currently, I'm having some trouble explaining why Miranda doesn't kill him herself using the power triggered by the event. It would only be fitting. Probably she'll find getting Oriana out has a higher priority, and later... well, no spoilers.

Maybe at that point immediately after the triggering event, Miranda is still unable to control her biotic abilities. Traumatic events can trigger a response but she can't just summon them at will yet. Miranda is smart enough not to risk getting herself killed (or worse) by attempting to attack her father while her control over her biotics is still so iffy. I can't remember exactly what Kaidan says, but I think his killing blow to Avernus was only possible because Kaidan was so angry - he probably wouldn't have been able to summon so much strength under normal circumstances.

You think so? I can't find anything creepy in it as long as he doesn't develop creepy desires. Why wouldn't I want that my daughter is smart and breathtakingly beautiful? And having the means to ensure it - means that are, in my estimatiion, ethically unproblematic if we're speaking of the genetic engineering - why wouldn't I do so? The creepy part, as I see it, lies elsewhere: in the fact that by using only his genome as a base and addings bits from various other sources, he attempts to get as close to male parthenogenesis as he can, but even that is not something you can bring strong moral objections against.

The vibe I get is that through his specific mode of "education", he attempts to reprogram his daughters with his own personality, much like they do in C.J.Cherryh's Cyteen novels, in some misguided attempt at something you might call serial immortality. And that is *seriously* creepy. Not that it would work (it might if he used a perfect clone), but has that ever stopped fanatics?

I just finished watching Miranda and Jack's love scenes back to back. As much as I complain about Miranda's romance, she really is the best option for a MaleShep in ME2. The power/experience difference is minimal. She doesn't need to be rescued, either from external threats or inner demons. No need to save her or be her knight in shining armor. It feels like Tali and Jack need to romance Shepard, but Miranda just wants you. As an equal. Obviously, the rescue romance/knight in shining armor model is popular, but I want more like this and what we got in DAO.

My Shep is no white knight, he is a dark knight ;).

On topic: That's why I like her and Ashley in ME very much. Too bad BW decided to turn Ashley into a typical Cerberus hater, who doesn't want see things logicaly.

I realize this isn't a hate thread, but since ME2 came out I've disliked Ashley more and more. She's one of the few people aware of the stakes of Shepard's fight against the Reapers. She should really realize that working with Cerberus isn't a matter of trust but rather one of necessity. Kaidan isn't much better, but at least he seems a bit less emotional in the meeting on Horizon.

After all they've been through together, Shepard also deserves more trust than what Ashley gives him. I'm not asking that Ashley drop everything and join his crew, but I expected a reaction more like Anderson's, where Shepard is at least given a chance to explain himself. After all, if it wasn't for Shepard (and Anderson), Ashley's career would still be going nowhere (and she'd possibly even be dead). She literally owes everything to Shepard.

I like Ash. She just happens to be mutually exclusive with Kaidan. Her romance never did much for me though.

I do want more LIs like Miranda: older, experienced women who don't  want or need their partner to solve their problems, who play in the same league as the hero, and are nobody's damsel in distress. We just need to work on the ME team's romance writing skills, but most of the flaws of Miranda's romance are execution, not concept.

Ashley was okay as an LI in ME1. Miranda blows her away as a LI though, IMO. Ashley's poetry-loving, theistic angle and her family history were interesting but ME2's writers really dropped the ball when they were trying to incorporate her into the ME2 plot.

For ME3, I'm actually hoping Bioware goes in another direction for LIs. We already have Miranda and I want something different (although I'll probably still stay with Miranda in my canon playthrough if she's available as a squadmate).

I also like Ashley. She's got a distinctive personality. Her character flaw is convincing and small enough that it doesn't affect her desirablity as an LI. Not for me, anyway. But the Horizon scene destroys her. Fiery female or not, she's not supposed to be stupid.

And of course Miranda blows her away. :)

In a different direction, yes: they should put more emphasis on developing the existing LIs rather than introduce new ones. The formula "sex after three conversations" is really getting old.

I still think Mirandas romance was half assed, as much as I love her(hell she is my fav female character in the ME series) I found her romance to be very very crappy. I prefer Liara in terms of romance :D

I'd like to know that, too. These shots are very crisp, how did you do that? In comparison, my PC shots look almost blurry. I doubt I can get this quality with my 512MB-GPU, but I'd still like to know.

It looks like the depth of field and film grain settings were turned off. ME2's lighting and shadows are unusually dark and sometimes make everything look washed out. You can turn off both depth of field and film grain in gamesettings.ini. It'll give a little less of the cinematic feel but all the images should be much cleaner due to less shadow (notice how much more detailed Shepard's chestpiece is in that first shot).

Performance-wise, it shouldn't slow your game down at all. I've run ME2 with a 5-year-old 8800GTS and a new GTX260 and I didn't notice a difference when I adjusted these settings.
