tbh i think in mass effect terms the "other" human male squaddies have the hardest job - you can't make them too good (threaten shepard's status as "the baddest badass of them all" tm), and they lack the basic "exotic" edge of any alien (let's face it thane is only that cool because he's an alien - if he were human he'd be a cliche remorseful assassin). that's why trying to differentiate jacob, for instance, often fails and they seem bland by comparison.

btw does anyone else think the dossiers/videos - designed as they are for everyone regardless of playthroughs - have to be non-canonical: i mean, in-game both jacob and miranda can warm to you pretty fast - how realistic is it therefore that miranda would be using dating services on-board the SR2 when you have already started courtship? i could see it if you were romancing someone else etc. etc. and that to me is where they would fit: fleshing out the characters you perhaps aren't romancing, giving them an extra bit of depth, but by applying to everyone (players) they really apply to no-one.

Worked well for Jacob to the 3-4 people who romanced him legit.

People romanced Jacob?

Yea, my "worst case scenario" Shepard did romance him.

There are two explanations (at least)...

1. Miris romance plot actually starts after her "loyalty mission". So this dating this happened before that.
2. Miri is cheating Shep. This may be a new approach of BW to give the feeling to the players that not every choice we made in the game is a good choice.

I prefer the first explanation.

Is anyone else here bugged by the obvious user names Bioware made Miranda choose for her net communication? I mean really, she's very security-conscious and must be because she's a hunted woman, and if you want to remain anonymous, you don't choose user names with hints about your real name, your job or your location. That's just stupid.

Another building block in my hypothesis we aren't meant to take the dossiers completely seriously.

BTW, is there any information about how mail addresses in the ME universe look like? I need one for my fanfic but have no access to my game.

It looks fine to me. I can see all the faces right, the lighting looks good and Miri looks amazing as always

thanks, my original version looked fine on my alienware (dell) laptop monitor, but at work, with my LG monitor (which has an annoying auto-dim for dark images) i could hardly make out legion/harbinger and the edges of the faces...

I think I've decided what to do about the dossiers, at least for fanfic. I'll try to keep to the spirit of the information, but change the details. She's infertile, but because the same set of operations that gave her biotics also damaged her eggs. I'm scrapping iPartners altogether and replacing it with a few people she has an arrangement with, supplemented with the occasional picking people up in upscale places like Eternity. Saves me a few headaches.

And here's one for the FAQ: "Using a dating service for casual sex makes her a sl*t." *seethes*

Well I thought that segment of the dossier was supposed to be a joke, so I don't mind.

i think all the dossiers are a joke. in constructing something for everyone, regardless of playthroughs/choices, they have constructed them for precisely no-one.

The only thing about Miranda I take seriously in LotSB, is this :

I don't know what to think about the other things. I have my own opinion about the dossiers, but I still prefer not to pay attention to this.

I don't recall anything in the Codex or in the books. I think Bioware deliberately avoided using specific extranet mail addresses or website urls to avoid the problem of coming up with a format. You could probably do the same with some creative wording.

Broke down and actually played LotSB. Wow. I think I'm in love with Liara now. I'd hate to have to choose between her and Miranda. We've picked over the dossiers, so I won't say much about that except to note that she was targeted as a possible recruitment candidate once TIM was assassinated. I don't think she would have ever accepted, not after Redemption. I did like the short scene with Liara. Shepard's thoughts on Miranda are very sweet and put to rest any niggling doubts that this is just a fling. I think it actually plays better in terms of Miranda's romance if you do LotSB after walking in her romance but before the suicide mission. Shepard has read the dossier and he doesn't care. It brings a new meaning to "Oh I'm definitely interested."

Can't wait to do it with my Shepard that romanced Liara. Miranda isn't the only LI who comes close to being Shepard's equal anymore.

After LotSB, Liara is a great character. I didn't like her in ME1, but now she's much more interesting. I think she has the second best romance of the mass effect serie, now. But Miri and her romance are still number one to me.

You're only playing LotSB now? After reading almost a week's worth of spoilers?

ME2 Liara is a great character and one I really like (I was meh about ME1 Liara). She's smart and capable and obviously cares about Shepard a lot. Just as importantly to me, she's reasonable and loyal, unlike some other ME1 squadmates who will remain unnamed. That said, I would still choose Miranda as an LI over her everytime. Liara still has a bit too much of that hero-worship thing going on that would make an equal relationship very difficult. She's also a little too emotionally fragile to be Shepard's LI, given his line of work. I would be worried how she would cope if Shepard ever disappeared again or took a lucky shot to the head. Liara even says as much, saying she's reluctant to restart the romance because of how traumatic it was for Shepard to leave her life the first time. She's clearly not used to losing friends in the line of duty and hasn't learned to cope with it yet (this wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing in any other line of work but when you're talking about people who risk their lives everyday, it is).

Shepard's response to Liara's query about what he's fighting for was touching, but I still wish Shepard would outright say, "I love her" sometime. Love is a bit of a taboo word, particularly so early in a relationship, but he's not saying it to Miranda - he's admitting it to a very close friend, possibly the closest friend he has in the galaxy. The part earlier where Shepard can admit to Liara how tired he is was awesome though. That kind of admission is exactly what I'm looking for when I routinely b*tch about Shepard's Gary Stu, cardboard personality.

Regarding the SB's musings about recruiting Miranda, I think the dossier entry makes it clear that the SB, despite all the information he has at his fingertips, knows very little about what drives Miranda. No sum of money or promise of protection for her or Orianna would ever get Miranda to work for him because he's a pure mercenary. He might want to preserve stability in the galaxy, but the survival of humanity matters very little to him while it matters a lot to Miranda.

Maybe we'll have to wait ME3 for this.
But I think we are lucky because Miranda is one of the few LI to admit being in love with Shepard.

I had to redo the game and write a fanfic. That takes time.

By "don't make me choose" I mean as characters. I'm near;y certain I'd prefer Liara's romance, just because it has more development. Both women feel like equals. I get around it by shipping them with each other. MaleSheps usually get fobbed off on Tali and I prefer the FemShep options as a rule.

"I love her?" I'd like that.

Finally got around to playing LoTSB (the joy of desktop crashing, etc, etc) and catching up on almost 20 pages of posts.

As far as the dossiers go, I was very amused by the Oriana/Miranda blurb, and as far as the infertility 'problem', even if it wasn't easily fixable, my Shep's reaction would go something like this, when Miranda mentions it:

Shep: Do you want kids/fix this?

Miranda: Yes.

Shep: Ok. We'll find a way.

Or words to that extent.
