When Miranda's not out with Shep on a mission, what do you think she does on the Normandy? I can't see her just...lying about, doing nothing. Do you think all she does is mission reports? What would Miranda do in her free time?

I think that aside from the usual human activities (i.e sleeping, guzzling coffee, eating, relaxing, working etc), she is probably checking up on Oriana and the news, or she may be reading historical biographies, or she could be singing, or playing the violin, or she may be painting. Could be practically anything. Or even worse, she could be writing erotic fanfictions about the entire crew. I saw one of these fics somewhere, and I laughed so hard that coffee ended up on my old keyboard ('nuff said).

Miranda strikes me as as an inveterate workaholic. On the Normandy, she probably handles a lot of the tedious administrative duties that are necessary but completely boring: arranging for docking fees to be paid, filling out requisition forms, etc



I'd do almost anything to see some Tali-Miranda friendship fic. I'd even swallow my pride and finished that Shepard/Miranda story.

Miranda/Tali friendship?



I'm curious to see how you would formulate such a thing...how they'd get to know one another, how Tali and Miranda would overcome thier...animosity towards each other, what they would talk about...

I'm just sick of the trolling and character bashing, particularly from Miranda fans. I like both ladies, and I'd like fic that reflects that. Maybe they bond over being part of groups that they eventually learn are not worthy of them. They can talk about tech stuff. Imagine Tali grilling her about sex. Due to her health problems, she has to be able to trust her partner while Miranda prefers no-strings attached affairs. And I can't imagine Miranda would be thrilled about the Chief Engineer risking her health right before a critical mission for the sake of sex.

I like all the squadmates, (well maybe not all....Zaeed....), and reading something like a Miranda/Tali friendship would actually be pretty interesting. I do like Tali as well as Miranda, and I like the fact that you know the characters well enough to know what they might ask each other. (Tali asking about sex...."advice" from Miranda. It's something you don't think about until another mentions it and then it sort of...clicks?)

As for the M-rating, I can't downgrade it for the sake of gathering more readership, because it really falls into the M zone and will go even further in future chapters. In the lack of better words, I'd say this is a piece written for adults, and I refuse to shy away from anything that would be indicative of this. And I don't mean just the sex scenes either.

I'll give it a read when I find some time. If it's anything like that exerpt you posted in here a while back, Elyvern, I'm sure it will be great. As for the M rating, everything I write I slap a M rating on it just to be safe. I'm not sure how closely FF enforces these fics, but just as a common courtesy I err on the side of caution and put a M on anything containing harsh language, violence described in detail, any sexual content/innuendo, or even dark themes. I don't think it affects readership all that much because all that is required is to change one search setting.

It took me a while to come up with the idea and I'm rather proud of it. I seem to spend most of my time inventing interactions between team members. My OTP is Miranda/Liara for Christ's sake.

I find it surprisingly easy to hear them speak with each other in my mind. The start, however, would be rocky. They're so different in personality there are bound to be misunderstandings.
I wonder if there are any stories with Tali and Miranda which are not rivalry stories. I hate that kind. Rivalry stories are so petty.

Edit:
A search on FFN for stories involving Miranda and Tali yields one (!) result. And it's not Tali-friendly. People who like both are apparently a rare breed.

I'm trying to do that as well in my ME2 retelling.

Sure, it splits focus time between Cameron (my FemShep), Miranda and Garrus, but I have it where Miranda and Garrus leads teams seperate from Shepard on some of the N7 missions in order to work on their teamwork and keep thier weapon skills and powers sharp. I didn't think there was much interaction in the squad beyond a few clipped dialouges on some loyalty or recruitments missions.
 
The reason I asked about Miranda's duties, what kind of squad she would take with her on missions, and what she does when she's not aiding Shep, is that I'm planning for some interaction on the Normandy 2.0 as well as on Miranda and Garrus' seperate missions. The Tali/Miranda frienship ideas really struck me as a little odd, but seeing how it works out makes me really interested in seeing what one could do with that.  

And I never, in all the years I've known about ME, would I have actually come to like Liara/Miranda. You're that good with the characterization.

Truthfully, any pairing could work if the writer is creative enough.



I'm thinking about challenging myself with an Ashley/Miranda pairing. It will either discover whole new veins of awkward, or be amazing. No real chance for a middle ground with that one.

Miranda? Free time? I doubt she knows the meaning of the term. When her ship duties don't occupy her, I think she'll spend time reading scientific journals, keeping up with important news, maintaining her professional contacts, keeping up with the newest technological developments in her field(s), etc. etc.. Her ship duties would be largely administrative, but I have no idea what an XO does in detail.

I agree she would seem like a very busy person.  I did a web search on XO duties... I mostly came up with "Star Trek" reference but I can see where most of it could apply to her on the Normandy.  This actually gives me some ideas.

Never really thought Tali would ask Miranda about sex advice.   Hmmm... interesting thought.

I could see and have used in my fic Oriana asking Miranda about boys, sex, relationships...   So, Miranda in a sense can advise her about things but also get input from Oriana maybe indirectly about things as well.

Basically, and this is from an Air Force perspective, the XO is handles the operational side of a base/wing. The commander and deputy commander are more administrative and directs the big-picture. The XO meets with the commander, gets told what direction the wing is taking and what, in general, needs to get done. Then he/she sends down the "See this ****? Get it done." orders.

Here is a non-rivalry Miranda and Tali friendship premise:



Tali and Shepard are interested in each other. Tali, assuming Miranda has some experience, very hesitantly approaches her (maybe Mordin helped her overcome her reluctance) about, well, human sex. Miranda has no interest in Shepard, in fact she doesn't particularly like him and considers his involvement with Tali as something like exploitation. She decides Tali needs her confidence boosted in order to avoid becoming Shepard's plaything and starts giving advice to that effect. That way they get to know each other better.



Admittedly this sounds as if out of a soap opera. Things should move away from relationships fast to avoid that. I assume that it's not hard for them to professionally respect each other, but at some point, Cerberus would become a topic. No idea where that would end...

She'd have it repaired. Don't tell me they can't do that. It might have to wait until the mission's finished, though. She'd find it annoying, and it wouldn't bother her short-term unless she's interested in Shepard. Long term, as I said, she'd have it repaired for more than one reason.
