Didn't you get from the tone that she appreciates the joke, Revan? "You ass" was said in that light tone that Meer doesn't quite get across.
Then why would she call shep an ass in the first place.

Because she loves him and the way he exasperates her (even if she knows he's joking) causes her to love him more despite however annoyed he might make her. It's actually one of the most realistic relationship moments I've ever seen depicted in Mass Effect, or any video game really.
Just read her facial expressions/body language or (if you're really talented) the way BW depicted her eyes in this scene.
You don't know what you're talking about. You dislike those lines, OK, but how you can think Shepard is acting like a jerk here *and* in the previous conversation, that escapes me. He challenges her - and she answers in kind. Do you have any idea of the attraction such an exchange can carry? It beats the happy-fluffy type of exchange any day if you're both of a kind to take such a challenge, if you have the confidence to answer it. Those lines underscore the strength of their personalities. You know, neither Shepard nor Miranda are the happy-fluffy types. Well, at least not in my games.Yannkee wrote...
To me, this joke and shepard renegade lines of the previous conversation are the worst lines of all shep/miri conversations. I would play more renegade if there were not such lines when shepard is acting like a jerk.

Meaningful? Or a failed attempt at portentousnesss? Apart from "You give your father too much credit...", which admittedly I really miss in the Renegade options, Shepard's lines come across as sentimental, almost slack. And how can you put off the kiss and "stop smiling, damn it!" as less meaningful? That scene is the highlight of the romance. Granted, the Renegade version has an element of a fight in it - the challenge I mentioned. I get that some people don't like that - that's why the alternative exists. But that Shepard is a jerk there is unsupportable as an opinion. If you make such a claim, give some supporting facts or I'm not required to let it stand as anything more than "I don't like it".Yannkee wrote...
Like I said before, IMO, the paragon path during this conversation makes the romance far more meaningful. I think it could have been better, but it fits the most to my conception of the perfect match for Miranda.

Gladly, Yankee. If you'd just stop insinuating that I and those who like the Renegade romance options play our Shepards as jerks.Yannkee wrote...

I would prefer to have an another choice than this one, especially for the paragon choice. I prefer the alternative line because I hate "Love". But if Bioware would have create a better line for the Paragon choice I would have been happy.
You, like Ieldra have more extreme opinions about Paragon Shepard and I don't complain. This is your opinion, and I respect it. Maybe you should do the same if you want to see more people in this thread.

Absolutely. And that is exactly why I wouldn't say things like "I prefer if there are no options at all" because that implies making decisions for others primarily for the benefit of my own judgement values. Someone else may like what I don't like. I usually avoid choosing the joke myself, but I wouldn't start making emotionally charged accusations about Shepard is a jerk because of that choice as that insults the way some people would want to play their Shepards. See where I'm going?

"Love?" is Shepard's way of trying to calm her down with a little comic relief - which she gets when she chuckles and calls him an ass. The other option keeps it on point, really driving the truth home, and Miranda hates it that Shepard is calling her out on the feelings they share for each other and thus the damnit comment.
Personally I prefer the later if only because you don't have to see Shepard's creepy expression that BW screwed the pooch on.
Anyhow, I always ALWAYS choose the "No promises" option in the final part of that dialogue tree. 1) Because that's exactly what I would tell a person if I were in Shepard's shoes and 2) She hugs you and tells you its worth fighting for.
Heh, actually a lot of the Shep/Mir best romance options come from Shepard getting her riled up or not saying the thing she is asking for him to tell her. But that's a tangent for another topic.
Edit: BTW I can't afford to get my Miranda litho right now (tear) but will it still be available sometime next year?
