Polish is her first language, so it's really weird.. Maybe it was just, that it would've become too costly when thinking about the audience, who'd play it with Polish on.

Honestly though; for a Miranda Shephard romance story though, there isn't that much Miranda and Shephard in it

In his defense, a romance story can become boring if the romance itself becomes overbearing.

Oh I don't want them to be all over each other all the time, just the last chapter for example didn't have anything to do with her for example, no sort of awkward glances at each other, and neither Tali nor Jack seem to be cottoning in on the fact that Miranda and John are an item (okay, I can understand why Jack wouldn't, she lurks in the bowels of the ship, but Tali is a busy body!)

Aww... Give a guy a break. That last chapter was all about Garrus. It's hard to put in Miranda to begin with. I love her and all, but I gotta make it realistic.

I suppose you should like this next chapter though. I have it set up kinda like what you want.

LuxDragon, I can never seem to log in, but in regards to your poll, you sorta have to have someone (*cough* Miranda *cough*) address him by his first name eventually. It's just not natural to refer to someone intimately by addressing them by their surname or their rank.



And I'm personally okay with John because well, A) that's his default name anyway, and because it happens to be my actual name

Honestly, I'm okay with her calling him Shepard. At this point, it seems like a term of enderment anyway. The reason why I avoided calling him John was because other readers might not want me to use first names. I'll add your vote to the tally though.

You should totally have Miri call him John...calling him Shepard is just weird. It's like me calling my boyfriend Laughlin instead of Russell. Calling people by their last names is more for acquaintances.

Another possibilty is the ability to change sheps first name, so for alot of people his name wouldnt be John.

I'd be content with any first name for Shepard *except* the default. If I read about a John Shepard in a fanfic, I always get the impression that it's default Shep trying to usurp my individual Shep's place. No one else's fanfic Shepard is my Shepard anyway, there's no reason to pretend he is when reading. I haven't yet read a fanfic Shepard who hasn't said things to Miranda - regardless of good or bad - I wouldn't have written into my version.

Yes, but she doesn't sound natural (or should I say- she has a foreign accent) when speaking polish, so it wouldn't be such a good idea to hire her for polish version. Well, I'm hoping they'll change the voice actress for Miranda in ME3.

I also think using the default name makes it easier to interchange it with your own.

I'd always use the default "John Shepard" and Sheploo's facial description in fanfic. Everyone has different opinions of how and what their Shepards look like. Going for the default sets a baseline no one can complain about.

I'm of two minds on this.  But at the end of the day, I usually end up writing fanfic to flesh out my own canon Shep and kinda fill in the gaps left by the game.  Usually dealing with her character development and emotional growth, since there's very little room in the game itself for that.

On the other hand, if I'm writing smut without plot for the kink meme, I steer well-clear of using a first name for Shep, and just kinda use a generic male or female Shepard.  Using a first name is pretty jarring, both for me and for a lot of readers.

Elyvern I have a question about your fanfic!



I'm guessing your Shephard didn't accept Spectre status from the council? Because if he did, wouldn't he have the extra-judicial rights granted to a Spectre and could effectively ignore Adm. Hackett's command that he stays off the Normandy for example? I mean, he could also on the spot execute Malkovich (I know that's not his name, but I just think of that movie all the time when I hear it) and suffer pretty much no negative effects.
