Don't give up jtav, that's the seconded most boring part besides the geth incursion.

Kind of silent tonight, isn't it? You know what, I was thinking of Miranda's leadership abilities and how they coordinate with Shepard's ability to inspire loyalty and Miranda's ability to use them effectively, couldn't make a more perfect union. So, tonight's song goes out to all those who have to play Mass Effect one again, just for a solo no romance. Now, you no policy of none mainstream music, well that still stands. I was going to go with Avril Lavigne "Girl Friend", but she's too mainstream, but I found a cover version by Zebrahead, the premise is simple the song will explain itself. www.youtube.com/watch<3<3<3:wub::wub::wub:

While I'm at it: i'm still collecting all reasons why people like Miranda, for the FAQ. Since nobody answered me yesterday, I'll post it again. What I have so far:

(1) She's supercompetent in several fields. There's less of a power imbalance between her and Shepard, which makes her a perfect companion for him.
(2) Her moral ambiguity - always more interesting than the black-and-white types.
(3) Emotionally detached - enough to be fascinating and refreshing, but not to much as to be unlikeable. Perfect balance.
(4) A spy with superpowers. Irresistible to some (I'm one).
(5) She's human (yes, that does matter for some in a romance, like me, so don't tell me it shouldn't)
(6) Engineered to be perfect - she might just be the genetic destiny of humanity.... ;)
(7) It helps that she's beautiful (tell me she isn't and I'll give you a few screenshots).

Anything else?

Sorry i didn't see this post, i think you've hit everything spot on Ieldra, i've certainly got nothing more to add to your brilliant Miri FAQ.

I realize this is from a while ago, but that's never stopped me before.
For me, a big reason was that she seemed initially standoffish and chilly, but her arc showed an unexpected potential for warmth and humanity.

Also, it used to come up that Miranda felt like a "mature, grown-up" woman.

I always do these the first chance they get. You must go to various places in the Citadel anyway, and doing the sidequests in the course of your following the main quest makes it less tedious. As for the keepers, I have memorized their location. Apart from that, I use printed maps for collection quests.

Here a motivating picture ;)

She can hold her own. She's a formidable presence. This has always interested me.

I realize now that a very compelling factor for me is control. Miranda is in control of just about everything. Because her control demands she isolate herself from her feelings I find myself very interested in what her feelings are.

Updated the Miranda Lawson FAQ with ComTrav's points. Nightwriter, I'm not sure if your point is already covered there in other words - could you go over it and check?

Sure, sorry...

... Well it looks like what I said could be covered in points 1 and 3, which talk about competency and emotional detachment. So yeah it looks like it's covered already.

I was just saying I like how her emotions are at war with this aspect of herself. I think that control plays a big part in how Miranda defines herself, and when she has powerful feelings that threaten that control it directly contradicts her own self image and creates a conflict I find interesting.

No need to be sorry. I agree that control is an important aspect of Miranda's personality, and perhaps it should be emphasized a bit more in the FAQ. I'll go over it. Thank you for the suggestion!:)

I'm going over the old thread and found this. I almost forgot that what we all feel is actually echoed by the game:

Miranda... is the better fit for Shepard[...]

Of course I'm sure fans of the other Shepard LI's can think of some pretty convincing arguments as well but what is indisputable is the fact that Shepard and Miranda have both gone through something that no one else can relate to, except each other.

"We've both been engineered for greatness, Shepard..."

It's a connection the two will share for the rest of their lives, regardless of who hooks up with who.

(exact phrasing of the dialogue quote corrected)

I very much appreciate that Miranda is older and more mature than Tali and Jack. you get the sense that any romance she has is only a part of her life, an important part, but only a part. If the relationship ends, she'll manage to pick herself up and dust herself off. I know I've said this before, but she doesn't need MaleShep. I don't get the sense that she's going to remain alone for the rest for life or trapped by her issues if I feel like romancing someone else. Paradoxically, that makes her more appealing as a romance.

And thanks for the motivator, Ieldra. I did get off the Citadel not long after I posted. I wish I'd played an Infiltrator before now. Fun times.

I'm not a Miranda romancer, but I agree. She doesn't need Shepard, and can move on without him. But she does want him, and probably wants him not just out of love, but also out of a way of feeling human, and normal.

Yes, I've also said that before, but I don' think it's paradoxical. A relationship not based on need is worth more, in an almost economical sense it's a luxury. So of course someone who doesn't need you is more appealing. For someone who doesn't seek power, at least.

Just played Miranda's loyalty mission again. The scene with her sister is really touching. I wonder if there's anyone who doesn't tell Miranda to talk to Oriana. Not only is it touching, but after she's killed Niket, there's such a sense of balance. Also, you can see she's scared to make the connection, but wants it - just as with Shepard later.

@Lord Zeuss:

Welcome and thank you - but haven't we seen you here before? Your name sounds familiar...

I think I've told her not to talk to Oriana more often than not. This is because I RP most of my Shepards as hating her. It's painful because, as you said, she wants the connection so badly, but is scared it will hurt Oriana. I want to hug her and tell her she has a right to be happy.

And you speak of things paradoxical....:lol:
Doesn't that look a bit schizophrenic to you - you like Miranda but play Shepards who hate her? OK...I guess we've been over that, but it never ceases to amaze me.

Er, sorry? It's something like a 3-2 split, not an overwhelming thing. Strahovski also does bitter and unhappy very well, which is also a factor. Most of the Sheps never forgave her for the control chip. I wouldn't in real life. There's also probably an element of me punishing her for the elements of her character that I dislike as well.

And is it really that strange to have complicated emotions toward a character? I'm starting to feel a bit freakish.
