Indeed, they share a lot of similarities, but I don't think Miri will become as soft as Sarah Walker.
But I agree with Melrache, a softer/more emotional Miranda doesn't make her less interesting.

Agreed.  The main problem is that it's really, really easy to go too far and turn her into a character that's almost unrecognizable.

I trust Bioware writers. Personally, I don't have problems with her character development in ME2, and I love the Miranda of the end game. So, I'm not worried about ME3.

Which is what I'm afraid of. Within the critpath, Miranda largely functions as the voice of reason and sometimes unpleasant pragmatism. Don't go through the relay to rescue the crew unless you're fully prepared. Let Cerberus study the geth instead of letting the potential enemy onto the ship. Don't satisfy your curiosity at the expense of the mission. She shoots Wilson without flinching because it's the most efficient way of getting rid of a traitor who's getting ready to kidnap you. I don't want her to lose that dimension, even as she becomes more open to Shepard and Oriana.

I can only repeat that I don't want Miranda to turn into the stereotypical protagonist's satellite character. I like her in ME2, almost everywhere, up to but excluding the scene at the human Reaper, and I also like how she's changed along the way. But I don't want her to proceed more into the same direction.

I don't necessarily want Miranda-the-hardass from the start of ME2 back, though I did like her even then. But I want her to be professional, pragmatic and rational when the situation calls for it. How it goes in the romance is another topic altogether - I'd like to see her subtly challenging and funny rather than soft, someone who draws Shepard out instead of giving in to him. Miranda is very well placed to fit that "slot", so to speak, since we already have the hero-worship version covered with Tali.

As JeanLuc said, it's really easy to go too far and make her unrecognizeable.

Sarah Walker is neat example though, but I don't think Miri will be screaming out Shepard's name each time he screws up something and gets into trouble over it. She can still be softie for him in other ways.

It would be funny
But, yes I agree, she can be softie in other ways.

Actually, I don't want her to be "soft" anywhere but in her relationships with people she cares about, namely Oriana and Shepard. As for the romance, maybe we'll get two versions again, and some people can have their soft and pliant version while I get my funny and challenging version. Though I maintain that the former wouldn't be recognizeable as Miranda anymore.

As for trusting the writers - I trust their competence. But I don't trust Bioware not to give in to the temptation of pandering to the lowest common denominator because they think they'll sell more games that way.

If you like this kind of character, I recommend you Sarah Walker in Chuck vs The Phase Three, if you didn't already watch it. ;)

@Ieldra2

I know. I was waiting to enroll in university when I played ME2, so I had next to no life other thean my boyfriend and him pestering me to play Modern Warfare 2 instead. :D

I wonder why so many people can't see Miranda as having two 'modes', so to speak. She'd be something like Sarah in Chuck. Still super competent, highly efficient and kickass operative ice queen(with less ice), but around Shep, she's a warm, caring and passionate woman. Who's a little awkard at times.

I'm sure if Bioware decide to make a Miri plushie they would manage to sold many.

I can see her having two modes. My concern is that they don't get out of their domains. And for the "private" mode, I think that "warm and caring" doesn't really sound like what she'd be, though "passionate" certainly fits. I can rather see her draw Shepard out with some banter, similar to Ashley when she answers Shepard's "come over here" with a challenging "make me". And she'll not let Shepard forget that he's hers as much as she's his.

Miranda not caring? Oookay... Anyways, I agree, Miranda would want everyone to know that Shepard's hers, especially the other women on the Normandy. I'll be doing this in my fic later on, and all I'll say is that jealous and protective Miranda is jealous and protective. Just wait and see how Miranda will 'protect' her man. :P

I totally agree with this!  Yes, I can also see Miranda and Shepard challenging each other.  "Make me..."  Line. :D

I don't say that Miranda is incapable of caring about someone. That's plainly untrue. But she's not what I'd call a caring personality. That kind of attention will always be reserved for those close to her.

I can't speak for Ieldra, but that's precisely what I don't want. Possessiveness can be very attractive, but nothing is a bigger turn off than jealoisy. "Mine" in the context up the bedroom can be hot. Wanting everybody to know he;s off limits (unless someone is actively flirting with him and even then only within the bounds of good taste) and treating him like a trophy is hideous. I don't like that Miranda.

Considering what she says if you try to romance an another character, it would fit her.
I like Miranda being protective with the people she cares about :).

Yes. I said she'd not let *him* forget that he's hers, and mainly wanted that to be expressed as banter and in the context of their private interactions, not as jealousy. Unwarranted and unsubtle jealousy would cheapen her.

That line (along with "Clearly you were a mistake") is the most vile thing that she says in the game. It makes her sound as if she wants him for a trophy. It gives her a catty streak I'd rather ignore.

This is what I meant ^ lol It wouldn't be Miranda if well... she didn't act like Miranda :P
