Of course now that I look for it, I can't find it. If I had know that someone would ask me for the source I would have book marked it. I actually think I found the link on the bioware forums while reading a thread about ME3. Ah well.

It was an in-game screenshot. As I said, looked basically identical to ME2.

As you might know (but maybe not) - the PS3 version of ME2 uses the same engine that ME3 is being released in. Source: http://gamerant.com/...ate-dyce-57442/

So expecting significantly better graphics is a fantasy.

@g54: re: Unreal 3 engine. That's kind of my point about current console hardware (~5 years old) holding back gaming. ME1 used Unreal 3 engine back in 2007. Gears of War (2006) also uses the Unreal 3 engine.

And here we are... 5 years later... Still using the Unreal 3 engine w/ pretty much the same graphics. Pretty sad really.

So ME3 (~late 2011 release) using the same engine as games released in 2006 -> this supports exactly what I was saying.

If we go back in time and compare leading video game titles that are 5 years apart (or hell even 2 years apart) the difference is stunning. Compare: Quake (1996) to Quake II (1997). HUGE difference.

Compare Call of Duty (2003) to Call of Duty 2 (2005). Huge difference. For a 5 year comparison, compare Call of Duty (2003) to Call of Duty: World at War (2008). Night and day.

But it seems like those days are gone, and we are now brick walled graphically until console makers release new consoles... which sadly won't probably be for at least 2-3 more years, or possibly longer. :(

Trends have changed but at least we have people like JeanLuc (and mods/tweaks in general) to lessen the blow.

Interesting stuff though about the Unreal Engine:
First according to their site UE 3 is designed for current gen consoles and PC
with Unreal 4 being developed for the next gen consoles with estimated release in 2012.

Well they are including DX11 graphics (recommended if you have the card for it)  for PC users for DA2...I wouldnt be suprised if they dont for Mass 3 since it doesnt support DX11 (see first link - but don't quote me on this)

Also, I recall a post by a dev saying that not all of the improvements used in ME3 would be in the PS3 version of ME2, you know for selling a year old game. HERE
At least they are making the effort to improve the graphics (this is also their first dive into the Unreal Engine)

It was also mentioned (by Casey Hudson in an interview) that they wanted to keep the main ME franchise within the current console lifespan...that would rule out a total redesign from the ground up like say in Halo Reach (compared to Halo 3).  Don't quote me on this as I have no Idea how long this generation of consoles will last.

But in my opinion I'd take story/content over graphics anyday (I'm looking at you Crysis...)
But I understand what your saying as I am primarily a PC gamer.

I've got like a five year old CPU & motherboard and it's tarting to show. My GPU is only a year or two old and it is already losing steam. So I aint to bothered if PC games don't develop to much. I'm worried I will pre-order Shogun 2 Total War and won't be able to run it!

My next upgrade will be very expensive (need new motherboard, CPU and new RAM) but if I get to see Miri in true HD, totally worth it!

There has been no screenshots released for ME3.
You must have been mistaken.

Ok poking my head in to give Miri support

As a girl gamer, I like Miri because of the flaws despite her perfection, plus her loyalty mission is my favorite

Do you think we'll see Oriana in the future?

I use Miri and Mordin a lot in my ME2 runs... they go so well with my Adept!Shep

I think a lot of us are just happy to see so many strong, badass women popping up in our video games.  F-ing FINALLY.  If I see one more token love interest White Magic Girl in my video games, I'll beat her to death with her own arms.

I agree. I seriously wanted to bash the ME writer(s) head against a wall when I saw Tali in ME2. She's the typical romanceable, fanservice damsel-in-permanent-distress with weak combat skills woman that almost every game has.Posted Image Thank God there's MiriPosted Image and JackPosted Image, who are two highly independent and strong women, to compensate for Tali. At least Tali had the little sister thing going for her in ME1.Posted Image

I am all for that!

Miranda attracted me from the start. I liked how she was not awe struck by Shepard. I felt challenged as man, which some men can't handle, but I liked it. I felt she laid down the challenge and it was up to me to see if I could measure up.

Great character.

Idk, thought it was rather cute in a way, wouldn't It be rather bland if you had all 3 romances with "highly independent and strong women" ? (I myself actually never romanced anyone besides Miri btw lol:wub:)

I think it's that and the whole mystery thing (what's behind the mask, suite) and the accent. I don't think she's a weak character but I do think she hero worships Shepard, which makes her endearing, but not what I am looking for.

Miranda is a strong women, Tali is becoming one.

*acknowledges poked-in head*

Miranda and Mordin are also well-matched in character and could be great friends. Too bad I don't find Mordin terribly useful except when going up against Blood Pack. Making Blood Pack Pyros explode is fun, and with Miranda and Mordin two can do it.

As for Oriana, I think she's played her role as Miranda's Morality Pet. I'm of two minds about that. I think ME3 should focus less on the characters' personal backstories and get on with the plot, but Cerberus is connected with the Reaper plot and Oriana is connected to Cerberus and possibly TIM's wrath will focus on her if Miranda resigned, so depending on the role Cerberus will play in ME3, it's possible she could appear again.

You won't be able to do that - her Power Of Love will turn you into a puddle before you get the chance.

But seriously, I haven't seen one of those in quite some time in a game. Perhaps I don't play enough games or play the wrong ones, but the games with LI characters I recall all had at least one strong female LI character, though admittedly none were as "badass" as Miranda and none came as close to being on the same level as the protagonist. Note that I haven't played any NWN game.

Ha! At last someone else who thinks a sniper rifle would fit Miranda's character and her backstory as a Cerberus operative. I've had a debate about that with some people who mostly think differently.

@Breakdown Boy:
The original litho is 18"x24", but this may be scanned from the so-called "mini", which is still a pretty good 9"x12".

I don't know if a sniper rifle fits her that much, maybe the odd mission, but I see her as your typical femme fatal, in that she would most likely use her esthetic appeal (to all things mail and some female) to draw her targets to her and get info in that fashion or kill them up close.

But yes, her new armour does look encomplete without a sniper rifle.

Agreed.  Tali's growing up and learning to stand on her own not because of how many different ways she can fry a man's power armor, but because of who she is and what she stands for.  The same can be said of a lot of the other younger squaddies: Jack, Grunt, even Garrus.

@Ieldra:  OK, so maybe I exaggerated a little   In more recent games you do get stronger female characters who are better role models.  It's still an all-too-common trope in JRPGs, but a lot of devs are realizing they do have female audiences who prefer their sex not be represented as a bunch of shrinking violets or a walking piece of fanservice.

...just don't get me started on Vanille.  Or (god help us all) Aerie.

Tali and Miranda are two different character archetypes. Both have excellent merits.

Miranda's archetype is a lot more common nowadays, both as LI type characters and general support characters, as women are playing games an awful lot more these days.

And you can't really call anything else fanservice when Miranda is T & A in a catsuit, regardless of how good or bad her character is. Use your head.

Can't we all just get along?

Also, Miranda's new outfit upped my appreciation for the character by quite a bit.

We are all being perfectly civil ^_^

And perhaps I should clarify what I said in my previous post.  I don't have a problem with fanservice.  I like fanservice as much as the next hemoglobin-blooded human.  I don't even have a problem with the stereotypically sweet love interest.  I have a problem when that's ALL that defines a character, and I have a problem when women in video games are consistently treated with such shallow characterization.

Thankfully, no one from Mass Effect suffers from being so shallow.  Yay for BioWare! :wizard:

Lol, I was referring to MsSihaKatieKrios's post, which was...well. Yeah.

I don't think there's a single character in ME that's genuinely shallow as far as depth.

Also since this release I've already seen a lot more warmer responses to Miranda, popularity is going up maybe? I know a lot of people's biggest problem was not seeing past the catsuit.

Yes. Someone actually said "Now I can romance Miranda at last". It may not say much for people's ability to look beyond appearances, but her appearance wasn't meant to be overlooked, so I can't really blame them.

As I see it, the problem is that there is a disparity between the way Miranda was presented as a character and her outfits. She was introduced as somewhat aloof, someone who'd be hard to get, but in the white outfit, supported by the camera angles, she appears like she's flaunting her "assets", giving the contradictive image. A character like Miranda needs a classy and/or professional outfit supporting that aloofness, but the white outfit with its plastic painted-on look screams "cheap".

I think something may have gone wrong in the transition from concept art to game graphics, for the white outfit doesn't convey the same impression in this picture:

Posted Image

Anyway, Miranda's new armor definitely supports her image as a "badass woman" better than the white outfit, and it's still sexy enough to not detract from her attractiveness.
