Wow... if Miranda's catsuit bothers you that much, I'd hate for you to play JRPG's.

Don't worry, there are fans who are not so enthousiast about this armor, and consider that it doesn't fit the character.

I'm just sad I won't have an alternate outfit for my favorite character, because they decided to please the crowd. I wish I could replace her white outfit, which I find ugly (less ugly now, thanks to JeanLuc), before her loyalty mission.

Yep.  Running around a warzone in a miniskirt: class.

And I agree with Ieldra.  Not liking the armor for aesthetic reasons is one thing, and 100% a matter of opinion.  But seriously, covering up with armor for a combat zone is...what everyone does.  For, you know, common sense's sake and all.

It's not as bad as it seems. I wouldn't make so much of an issue of it if some people didn't insist that she shouldn't wear armor. In fact, ever since we got the armor, I'm much more comfortable with her catsuits, for now I don't need to take them where skintight catsuits would be stupid to wear. That's the real issue that riles me up: the complete disregard of plausibility in favor of artistic expression.

Just imagine a woman going out on the streets of Omega in that white outfit. Before long, she'd be attacked for the purpose of forcing her into prostution if she wasn't accosted by men trying to buy her favors. No matter that Miranda would kick their asses out of the airlocks in a second, it's just a stupid thing to wear there. Go there in armor, and everyone will think twice before messing with her. Which is exactly the image you'd like to convey.

Besides, I don't see how anyone can deny that wearing that armor into combat reinforces Miranda's image as a smart and professional and extremely capable and attractive woman.

BTW, I'm not one-sided in this. I've just tested the romance scenes, and as I suspected, the armor is just as inappropriate there as the catsuits are in combat. So she'll get the armor on missions and the loyalty outfit on the SR2. Don't know yet what I'll make her wear on the SR2 before her LM. Sitting at her desk in armor looks odd, but so does the white catsuit. Also there's the most infamous ass shot in one of the pre-LM conversations.

It's simple really. If I'm with Miranda on Illium, Citadel, Omega she's in her cat suit... now Haestrom, Horizon, Collector Ship, Reaper, SM she's damn well rocking the armor

Yeah, Haestrom with no armor would be bad times.

And I agree 100%, though I might put her in armor for Garrus's recruitment.  Breaking into a fortress surrounded by mercs sounds like it could take some armor.

In my games, Miranda won't set foot on Omega without armor. And to get away from that eternal topic, here are some screenshots from the Omega-4 relay mission mission. I like those scenes where Shepard and Miranda are talking at the approach. It strengthens the impression they're doing this together.

I find it odd that Miranda new armor outfit didn't come with a Cerberus helmet like that dlc Cerberus armor has. I wish Bioware would make a 3 option from the team screen for squad mate to wear, helmet, visor or nothing or a option what planet/SB/ship you land on). Just look silly seeing Miranda, Jack etc with just a visor in vuccum of space or poison planet (Please Bioware make a helmet for each squad mate).

I like this screenshot the most!

Thanks to the armor, I take Miri on almost every mission now without feeling embarassed about my XO wearing a FS suit. With her, Tali, and my tech assassin(MainShep), we're an unstoppable force of combat tech.

Something like that? :P

As I said - *repeatedly* - the white outfit doesn't reinforce the "ice queen yet smart and sexy scientist and lead operative" because of its beng cheap and the overblown fanservice elements. Miranda does convey that image by her dialogue alone, neither supported nor hampered by her outfit at that point. Except for the "sexy", which wasn't much present. And as I said - again, *repeatedly* without that point being acknowledged or defeated in any way - it's the occasion that should determine what people wear as much as what they are, if not more. So Miranda was OK at that point, because while we met her already in combat, she had a civilian role there and Lazarus station was a civilian location. She's not that again for the rest of the game.
You assume that because I want her to wear armor in combat, I'd want her to wear it everywhere. Of course not. That would be stupid and Miranda is not stupid.  YET AGAIN, it's the *situation that matters. Adaptability.

I don't know if I would've liked her armor had she worn it when I encountered her first, but I got over the fanservice to see her true colors, so I have a good indication it wouldn't have been any worse to get over any other outfit-induced misrepresentation. Not that I'm saying the armor would've been that

I expected the dullards to be distracted by bright, shiny armoured that ill-fit the character but not her fans.

You mean, as distracted as some other people are by the fanservice into being unable to admit that her white outfit as executed in the game doesn't fit her character? That kind of distraction? Distracted by the Sexy is a trope for a reason, I've never heard of "Distracted by the Awesome".
Tell me you don't like the armor and I say YMMV. But don't tell me it's character-derailing. I concede that the white outfit *might have* reinforced Miranda's character had it been executed better and with less fanservice, and if there had been an alternative to wear in combat. But as it was, no, it didn't work.

Dressing for the occasion. Common sense.

i don't wanna derail the thread, but i take issue with and refute some of these points:

miranda does convey a lot in her early conversations, BUT initial impression count a lot, especially visually - something that has been proven time and time again in studies - most people will make up their minds before even talking to someone - that includes her, so in that respect the white outfit was very important.

ok so occasion should determine what is worn: no armour on Illium then, after all why would you logically wear it in a 'civilised' city - no-one else is, after all (shepard, a spectre, gets a pass)? that goes for the citadel, too, and cerberus bases of course.

the other thing is: there are literally no gameplay changes between outfits - it's entirely aesthetic, which means the realism argument falls completely flat - everyone has shields and biotics have barriers, a few ceramic plates against railguns ain't gonna amount to anything. realism - as long as it's consistently presented - is what BW wants it to be, as is the universe lore.

you're also pretty hung up on this 'fanservice' concept - aside from the aforementioned dodgy camera angles, neither original outfit is that bad or too different from samara, and leagues better than jack, for example. a certain level of sexiness in dress goes with the 'operative' tag, after all.

my final thought i guess is simply: opinions are like ****s - everyone's got one, but don't think that the sudden upswell of a few new people amongst the chorus of the few regulars with an agenda makes universal praise for BW's direction with DLC outfits.

I'm a bit stuck on something for an fic: how do you think Miranda would react to a "you break her heart, I break your legs" speech from a Shepard who isn't joking.

Does this refer to Shepard warning Miranda not to break Liara's heart?

If she and Shepard are friendly and she appreciates his intentions (leg-breaking sounds like DudeShep), I could see her saying "Shepard, I would never do that."

If not so much, I could see her raising an eyebrow and saying, "Understood, Commander," much as she does when you hand Veetor over to Tali. She might be intimidated, but she'd hide it.

That's exactly what's going on. And just to make thing worse, Miranda has no real idea about how to have a successful relationship and her Cerberus ties are causing trouble.

No offense intended, but just because someone doesn't agree with your opinion doesn't mean that they're not "real fans". Thats just rediculous.
I loved Miri's character long before the armor, and now I think she's even better than before... ^_^

I don't know how I feel about the armour. It's ok I guess! Don't find her sexier because of it but fits the role of seeing her in a fire fight more believable. Not to big a fan of the visor.

I'm a easy rpg fan, don't need everything to be perfect to be 'immersed' in the game. Some people complain about the smallest thing that pulls them out. (That's fine, we're all different)

The mask thing bothered me for all but 2 seconds but then I had to blow a collectors head off.

I'm happy for you.
But I never said you're not a real fan because you have a different opinion. Maybe you should read my post again.

This thread would be such a better place if everyone could respect other opinions, and stop misquoting other members.

Don't worry Lux, you keep it pretty simple. None of that crappy, overrated and overused relationship complications that some like to use all the time. Those cliches just make me groan in disappontment.
