Liara looked down. "Now do you see why I say Shepard will hate me? She'll see this as the worst kind of betrayal. Though I admit I'd rather be lonely and have her alive again."
Miranda's smile was bitter and ironic. The exhaustion from the meld seemed to hollow her out. The last thing she needed was to be reminded how completely in love Liara was with Commander bloody Shepard. "There's always a third option: her alive and the two of you having half a dozen little blue children and living happily ever after."
"Don't be ridiculous." Liara stood and walked to the window. Her steps were heavy and halting. It occurred to Miranda that perhaps Liara was as exhausted as she was. "Even if she didn't hate me, there are a thousand things that could go wrong with your project. And that's not even counting—" She blushed. "I get so tired of just waiting. I wish I could have a life again. There are days I think some part of me died after a brought you her body."
Liara bowed her head and hunched her shoulders. Miranda wanted nothing more than to put her arms around Liara, but she did not fully trust herself. She wished it was only lust she felt for Liara. She would have known what to do with that. Seduce her and use her for as long as it was enjoyable. Liara might even welcome the distraction. This respect, affection, or whatever it was that Miranda had for her complicated things. Too much.
Distraction? Perhaps there was a way to help Liara deal with her misery and improve her information gathering skills at the same time. "Who says you can't have a life? You can't spend every waking moment looking for Feron. Go to a party once in a while. Make contacts. You helped stop Saren. Every person worth knowing in this city should be falling all over themselves to get to know you."
Liara turned back to her. "I've had offers. I just got an invitation to a charity auction yesterday. I've been told everyone who's anyone will be there. And of course, there are those who want more. Do you any idea how many times I've been propositioned since I came here?" She shook her head. "I won't be an ornament. I'd need to trust my partner. There were only ever two people in the galaxy that I trusted. One of them is dead. The other..." she trailed off abruptly.
She and Miranda stared at each other. The roomed seemed cooler now, with an odd tension that had not been there before. A tightness constricted Miranda's throat. Breathing was suddenly very difficult. She doesn't mean you, a voice said. She'll never mean you. She had to stop torturing herself like this. She wasn't a teenager anymore. Liara probably didn't know what she was doing.
"You said you think this auction would be good for me?" The question is so absurd on the heels of the odd moment that Miranda could only nod dumbly. "Then I' like you there with me. I've never been good at mixing with people. Maybe you could help me. I can get Nyxeris to pull some strings and get you an invitation."
Miranda opened her mouth to tell her exactly how inappropriate this was, but Liara silenced her by coming to stand in front of her. Please. Otherwise, I'll spend an entire evening fending off people who only want to seduce me or trade on my name. You're the only one I think I can trust. At least you're honest about what you want from me."
No I'm not. But what could she say? Miranda shook her head ruefully. Someday she was going to pay for such idiocy. "All right."
The smile Liara gave her was almost worth it.
First three chapters are back in beta. Two more to follow.

One thing I think we can agree on: Kaidan, Miranda and Liara in the same squad would be awesome! Make it happen, Bioware.

That's fine, Ieldra. What can I say? I like genre romance. And for whatever reason, I'm not a good Miranda/Shep writer.

Long as you didn't romance Liara in ME1 and then Miranda in ME2....

I don't care so much about Liara, though I like her ME2/LotSB personality. But Miranda and Kaidan, definitely. Heh....I wonder, if we have those two in the same team, if they will be the types to bicker all the time and then come to fall for each other if Shepard hasn't anything going with either of them. That would be possible with.....three of my eight Shepards.jtav wrote...

My money says you're a lady. Because a man ALWAYS has eyes for a pretty woman, no matter what.

In case you may or may not have noticed...'i've got a fever and the only prescription is Miranda'.
It's kind of a joke line. Just sayin'.

Ieldra means that Miranda is not a normal doctor/nurse and so does not treat people who are still alive.jamesp81 wrote...

I like the way you think. It should be possible on all but two or three of my Shepards, depending on if I redo Miranda's romance

She has to come back, though. My canon Shepard would not stand for her being anywhere but by his side while he saved the galaxy. Afterall, someone has to save his skin.
My guess? Your LI joins your squad no matter what you do.

I do not think so no. I think she will return unconditionally, though what her role is can, at this point, vary wildly. I wonder if it is possible that she is hostile, for instance if you didn't do her LM in ME2. If she's back with Cerberus to protect Oriana and/or spy for us then likely we'll only get her as a team member for one mission, or with a little more luck, for all missions after dealing with TIM. But I do have hopes that we'll get her back in a significant role.jtav wrote...
I sincerely hope her return isn't tied to LI status. But I doubt it will be.
@Boilrig:
They said nothing about the others. That means they can be team members or not. We do not know.
@MIsterJB:
I said that because I wanted to deconstruct the "hot nurse" trope. Read this.

Only concern for me is Bioware really ****ing it up and pull a similarity to Ash in ME2 with a picture, perhaps a little cameo and a stupid email.

What are the odds do you think, that some of who sticks and who goes depend on what you do with the base?

I'm pretty confident she will be back in ME3. She's played quite a large role in ME2 for her to not return.

don't think so since it's easier to bing her back than ash/kaiden, and they are supposedly back in a bigger way.

Plus, it's ME3. You can't shaft members in a game when one of the selling points is an old squad reunion. If she's dead, well, then there's a problem. I doubt she can Lazarus herself.
