Jack's VA has said she can't comment, as did Yvonne Strahovski. They choose to interpret that as "she's in", but first, that's a wrong conclusion given the way NDAs work, and second, we strongly suspected that already. What now matters is HOW she is back.
@jtav:
Consider your words repeated by me. The romance should be an optional addon to her story arc.
@aeetos:
I agree that we should be able to influence the epilogue, so to speak. But Miranda having no life beyond being with Shepard would be out of character. On the other hand, taking a break for family life could probably be justified given how long her life is going to be. Just as long as it's clear it's temporary. I won't use that option in my games though. In my games, if we (hopefully) get that option, she'll take over Cerberus.

possible endings:
1) death
2) return to marine/spectre status and continue protecting human/citadel space interests
3) work with the remnants of cerberus to achieve either human dominance or (as an alliance liason) reform cerberus and have it return to the alliance as a black ops organization
4) Using salvaged reaper technology Shepard devises an engine system powerful enough for the Normandy to follow the (fleeing?) reapers back into dark space in order to take the fight to them
although option 3 is appealing i know i'd want to keep hunting the reapers

It's not quite my OTP, but I still maintain they'd be perfect for each other, and having them together in the squad is on my wishlist for ME3.

Thanks for that screenshot. I think they fit each other well in personalities, if not exactly in loyalties, though that might change. So - in games where my Shepards don't romance either, I'll probably like to imagine them together. And I'm looking forward to having both of them together on a mission.

Miranda's storyline in ME3 should be divided into two major story arcs, IMO. The first one would be more focused on Cerberus with one of these things happening:
a) Miranda is doing her best to cause dissent amongst Cerberus's ranks. This would happen if Shepard blew up the Base.
b)Miranda is a double or even triple agent whose loyalties ultimately lie with Shepard and she is trying to destroy Cerberus from the inside out. Assuming, of course, that The Illusive Man's unlogical wrath is focused solely on Shepard. This would happen if Shepard preserved the Base.
c) Miranda could be blackmailed to turn against Shepard, temporarily of course. Personally, I don't like this one because if Miranda resigned, logically the first thing she whould do is attend to Oriana's protection which I hope just happened offscreen. So, unless Shepard gave the Base to Cerberus, I don' see this blackmail plot happening.
Or Miranda could have resigned from Cerberus despite Shepard's choice regarding the Base and we will re encounter her on whatever planet Oriana has been relocated to.
Personally, I think this would be a waste but maybe that's just me.
After the final confrontation with Cerberus; in which I hope there will be Shepard and Miranda teamworking to kill Kai Leng and the option to have Miranda replace The Illusive Man instead of simply destroying Cerberus; Miranda could become a permanent squadmate and the second story arc would be more Romance/Friendship oriented (it could even be Romance-exclusive and all LIs would have something similar), perhaps we could even finally confront Mr.Lawson. I can already see having to cut through an army of "Mirandas". Pure nigthmare fuel, rigth there. So much worse than the Human-Reaper.
I do like your ideas on the miranda story progression but do not hope for them because they will likely cause her to be a temporary squad member not a full blown squad member
I can imagine Miranda joining the spectres especially considering she likes having the freedom of not being told what cannot be done and just being told to do it any means possible (which the council pretty much do (except Ilos of course)
i feel there will be a fight between jack and miranda (aka jack trying to kill miranda) and shepherd basically steps in and can only stop one of them from killing the other (i doubt they will have it where shepherd can talk them down again) this is due to the distaste them two have between each other and jack saying she wants to kill her.
Then after that the survivor (in our case miranda) and from their a full blown squad member but she asks you to help protect Oriana from her father by confronting him with miranda and decide what to do with him (or even a potential betrayal of Miranda for the sake of money)

I had a funny/cool vision of Miranda and Jack attacking each other on a barren planet; Miranda with an SMG, and Jack with her biotics.
Then Shepard jumps into the fray, beats the sh!t out of both of them, and drags both of them back onto the Normandy, where they sulk like children. That would be the ultimate renegade option, putting them in their place.

i think it'd be an interesting twist if bw reintroduced jack and miranda working together to take down cerberus. it'd certainly make ME2 veterans drop their jaws and go "WTF!?"

Jack and Miranda certainly have more in common than either of them has with Ashley, so I can see that coming. But they're all three strong personalities. The possibilites for banter are infinite. I hope Bioware doesn't waste that chance and gives us some party banter between these three.aeetos21 wrote...
i think bw played out the whole jack/miranda tiff during me2 and given how miranda clearly isnt on the side of cerberus and that she helped shepard stick it to TIM i'm willing to bet jack would dial down the hateful venom to chop busting snark. my shepard for instance romanced ash in me1 and then miranda. if ash and miranda were to get into it with jack as an amused onlooker i see our favorite resident psychopath cheering for miranda versus ash.

While I'm at it, any conflict between them should mainly not be over Shepard. That would cheapen them all. They have enough things to disagree about without Shepard getting into it.

Was tIM suggesting that she kill Shepard? The reply that follows seems to indicate that's exactly what he had planned for, if Shepard didn't do what he wanted.
"Or what, you'll replace me next?"
That along with her sudden resignation also suggests that she was instructed to kill him(er) the second his(er) ideals got in the way of tIM's goals. This is an exciting revelation because it shows how much Miranda has changed along the course of the game and that she now trusts Shepard more than tIM. Bonus if you romanced her and spent some time together in the engine room. I'd imagine she'd be disgusted with tIM after that.
Thoughts, counters?

Miranda's original instructions have probably included keeping Shepard in line by whichever means necessary. Depending on your interpretation, she switches her loyalty to Shepard becausenaledgeborn wrote...

(1) She trusts Shepard more than TIM to do well by humanity at this point.
(2) She knows she can't kill him, and would likely be killed if she tried, so it's better to follow him for now.
I think it's mostly (1), though (2) may be a factor as well. If Shepard is leaning more to the Paragon side, she sees that you can be successful without being as ruthless as TIM, and if Shepard is more Renegade, she sees he's extremely successful - and saves several of TIM's projects from disaster. Jack's LM may also figure in somewhere.
I also think she trusts Shepard more than TIM at this point whether you keep the base or not, only in the latter case there is no loyalty conflict yet. As for the romance, while that may be a factor as well, IMO it is minor. Miranda's loyalty to TIM is grounded in her belief in the agenda of humanity's advancement, and she isn't the type to switch that to Shepard just because she's fallen in love with him. I don't see any reason why it should influence what she thinks of TIM.

The first thing I noticed Anderson looked like hell. Every time I came to the Citadel, new lines were on his face and his gait was just a little more plodding. Like he was weighted down with rocks. Someday he was either going to get sick of politics and quit or collapse from exhaustion. I couldn't blame him. He was the face of humanity to the rest of the galaxy, which meant he had to do things like explain why the Savior of the Citadel had murdered 300,000 people. I wanted an answer to that one myself, and I wasn't sure Anderson had one.
The second thing I noticed was that we weren't alone. Miranda Lawson stood next to Anderson. I'd only seen her in person once, from a distance, but she was a hard woman to forget. She'd exchanged her black armor for a white business suit that accentuated every single one of her curves. There was a cold, porcelain perfection to her face that was both creepy and beautiful. Not so much as a scar or freckle Her eyes were shrewd and calculating as she looked me up and down, deciding how best to use me for whatever plan she had. Cerberus operatives always had plans.
Protocol dictated that I greet Anderson first, but part of me wanted to scream "What the hell is she doing here?" The Spectres and the Alliance had files on Miranda dating back over fifteen years, but no one had ever been able to prove her involvement in various suspected Cerberus projects. We suspected she was a high-ranking officer with them. If anyone knew why Shepard had faked her death or committed mass murder, it would be her. For all I knew, she might have brainwashed Shepard into doing it. "Sir?" I said and hoped Anderson would explain what the hell was going on.
Miranda's lips curved upward into a slight, enigmatic smile. "It seems Commander Alenko remembers me. Charming."
Anderson looked from her to me and back again, and sighed. "Come in, Alenko. At least I won't have to bother with introductions." I took a few more steps into the room, and the door closed and locked behind me. Anderson turned to Miranda. "You're certain you weren't followed?"
The smile widened slightly. "Please. I taught most of those idiots how to perform surveillance. The Illusive Man will receive a very detailed report about all the shopping I did on the Presidium."
The hair on the back of my neck stood up. Miranda was trying to evade Cerberus surveillance? "What's going on, sir?"
Anderson didn't answer. Miranda took a half step toward me. "I've received intelligence that the batarians have recently acquired what I believe to be Reaper technology. One of their salvage teams found an object that matches the description of something Shepard and I ran into. " She switched on her omni-tool, projecting a faint image of a large, nondescript warehouse." I believe it's been held here. A research facility a few hundred kilometers outside of Jalnor. From what I've been able to piece together, the facility is small, but the batarians are putting significant resources into analyzing the artifact."
She paused to let it sink in. She didn't mention how horrible the batarians having access to Reaper tech would be. She didn't need to. Shepard had been detained pending trial, but the batarians still blamed us for the destruction of their colonies. The politicians made halfhearted noises about how much they wanted peace while people like Terra Firma agitated for war. A lot of good, innocent people on both sides were going to die either way, but the Reaper tech just made it that much worse.
Anderson clasped his hands behind his back. "The Alliance has interrupted some comm chatter that indicates increased activity on Lorek. Materials shipments, scientists coming in from the other side of the Hegemony for no apparent reason. It could be that they've found something big. You said you ran into something like what you think they found?"
She nodded. "An indoctrination device on Aequitus that turned an entire mining camp into husks."
I let out a low whistle. Still... "Why tell us about all this? Not that I don't appreciate intel, but this is exactly the sort of thing Cerberus swipes for itself. Something doesn't add up."
"The Illusive Man he is preoccupied with exploiting other... assets we've recently acquired. This is a very low priority for him." Something that might've been pain flashed across her face for a moment but was quickly replaced by her usual icy expression. "If this is Reaper technology, it could be the smoking gun that could finally prove their existence to the galaxy at large. Shepard did what she did on Ashotat to stop a Reaper invasion. This could exonerate her."
I felt a dull ache behind my eyes. The migraines were always worse when I was too emotional, and right now I was feeling a hundred different things. Hope. Terror. Mostly, though, I was angry. "You used the threat of a Reaper invasion to manipulate her once. You did something to make her turn her back on everything she ever stood for. So, you'll excuse me if I don't believe you."
Her eyes darkened to a color I would have called sapphire except that wouldn't have conveyed how utterly terrifying she looked. Miranda was beautiful the way lightning storms were beautiful. Make one wrong step, and she would kill you. "I did not manipulate Shepard. I spent two years of my life rebuilding her, and I did everything I could to see that she survived the fight against the Collectors. I will not see her thrown to the wolves now."
I studied her face as she spoke. When the Council decided I was as good a person as any to become the second human Spectre, they'd made me sit through classes. Interrogation. How to tell when someone was lying. Miranda had none of the usual tells, and part of me wanted to believe her. It meant someone besides me give a crap about Shepard. Which was probably a good reason to disbelieve it.
She continued, "Unfortunately, the batarians aren't exactly going to let a human waltz into one of their colonies and poke around." She sneered. "And since the Alliance was kind enough to dismantle the SR-2, I'll need another stealth capable ship. Namely, a Normandy-class frigate."
It took me a second to figure out what she was asking. When I did, the headache intensified. "You can't be serious! We can't hand over military vessels to Cerberus." I turned to Anderson. "She's a terrorist. You know what they did to Kahoku. What they did on Chasca. Can you imagine what they would do if we gave one of them run of a ship? What they would do with a Reaper artifact?"
Anderson's smile was grim. "I can imagine quite a few things, and I have no intention of handing over anything to Cerberus. If it were up to me, I'd have the artifact destroyed. But I owe Shepard this much. We all do. Sending Alliance personnel would be like throwing a match on the gunpowder."
"So, you'll let her borrow a ship?"
"Actually, that's why I called you here. I don't trust anyone associated with Cerberus. I want you to accompany Ms. Lawson on this mission. Give her some backup and make sure everything's above board. I can trust you to be discreet."
If Miranda was upset about Anderson telling her so bluntly that he didn't trust her, she didn't show it. "This problem is bigger than old grudges. You don't have to like me or what I stand for, but you are one of the very few people who'd seen what the Reapers can do. I agreed to Councilor Anderson's terms because Cerberus intelligence indicated you were capable of seeing the big picture. I need you to get past whatever you think happened on Horizon. Don't disappoint me."
Anderson inclined his head toward me. I understood. This was an order, and it was time to do as I was told. Something still didn't feel right, though. If Miranda was as high up in the Cerberus chain of command as she was supposed to be, she should have been able to get something even if her boss considered it a low priority. Why come to us? Why go out of her way to keep Cerberus in the dark about this meeting? It didn't add up. And then there was only one way to get answers to my questions, and maybe find out what had really happened to Shepard while I was at it. "Just give me the details."
Miranda smiled again, but there was still no warmth in it. "I look forward to working with you, Commander Alenko."
I wasn't sure I could say the same.

I'm hoping Miranda doesn't take the reigns of Cerberus. She's better and smarter than them. She doesn't need Cerberus to do it. Tim will get what's coming to him.
I will agree with her being a very good administrator and wanting to help rebuild humanity.
Just my opinion.
