Yes, the launcher could very easily be changed in the next patch to automatically check for updates and prompt for download and install.

Yes, something similar to the NWN autopatcher would be a good idea.

not really no. At the moment the 1.01a patch brakes the game for some people, so what do you think will happen if you have no choice?

I agree with this. Every other Bioware game has a patch/update button on the launcher page. Why isn't there one for Dragon Age?

Speaking of a patch, how do I get the patch that was released?

People on Steam already have no choice but to update to 1.01a, the game-breaking issues in it are affecting a tiny amount of people, something which I'm sure they'll address in the next patch, which could easily contain an autoupdater.
I was quite surprised there wasn't one in DA:O, it seems pretty silly it doesn't have one considering their pledge to support the game with 2+ years of updates and content (DLC). It's something I almost expect from most modern PC games, especially with Steam autoupdating the game, and both the 360 (XBL) & PS3 (PSN) doing the same.

There apparently is an autopatcher, just not as easily visible as it is in other BioWare games. Look for the "Dragon Age Updater" section in your readme.txt file (wherever your game installed). It doesn't seem to explain very well how to configure it. I've checked both the DAOriginsConfig.exe and daupdater.exe, and neither seems to have settings for how the autopatching works.
To get the current patch manually, you can go to "My Games" > "Game Patches" on the left hand sidebar of this site.

Actually, I believe they stopped using the button on Jade Empire (but that game came out without bugs, luckly). And Mass Effect didn´t have it either (that had problems because of that, as you can see in angry foruns...). But it is the best thing to be able to check it everytime before launching the game. It is really annoying having to look for patches. Get the "update button" back!!!

yes, an auto patcher would be great or at least announce new patches in the news section of the launcher
