Ok so i'm tryin to get the ally achivements and I was wondering do you just have to do a certain number of missions with a specific character and you get it or do you have to wait until the end of the game?

I believe it's 35 side missions and 10-15 main missions with the character to get the achievements.

Something like that. If you're trying to get an alien ally, don't finish any Citadel sidequests until you become a Spectre and have recruited everyone. It counts who is in your party when the quest is completed.

To answer your question they pop mid-game, you don't have to wait until the end.
Advice about the achievements in general as this comes up from time to time.
I've seen various 30-35 + 10-15 quoted but I don't think that is quite how progress is tracked for it. Twice I had the two party member for the same number of assignment, but different numbers of missions and for one of them the ally achievement popped on an update to a mission (not even completion of sub-task) but the other the achievement popped during an assignment between missions.
Interestingly the Wikia article on achievements lists a differing numbers for each achievement. http://masseffect.wi...ki/Achievements
This more or less lines up with my experience. Mission tasks as well as assignments count (alternatively there could be some weirdness with the achievement not popping as soon as you meet the requirements). Liara having the highest requirements and being available last is consistent with people reporting problems with her achievement most often.
Their actually pretty simple to do though as long as you follow a few basic principles.
-Do no assignments until both allies you want are in the party
-Go to Therum first to recruit Liara if you are doing her achievement
-Keep the ally in your party at all times until the achievement pops
-Do three plot worlds (eg. Therum, Noveria, Feros) and then only do assignments until the achievement pops
--caveat to the above Liara may require doing the fourth plot world. Make sure you do all the assignments that require the citadel before this.
Collection assignments apparently count if you complete them on the ground with the ally in the party. If you complete them by surveying, then it almost certainly doesn't count. However the collection quests are a colossal pain the arse and you can do enough assignments without them.
The achievements aren't hard but doing three fairly complete play throughs in a row is kind of a pain/massively time consuming. Just be sensible and you will get there in the end.

the number of missions varies, but is listed under the blank medal when you check your achievements
