^^^Picture of what I'm talking about.
SW Battlefront 2 had cool space combat as well so that could work.

Why all the hate for the Hammerhead?
You cannot exit it? Why the hell you should want to? Only reason to exit the Mako was to gain more experience points. And that was tedious. Free Exploration in those mountaineous regions with the mako was tedious also. It didn't even look good.
Combat in the mako? Safest way was hide-and-shoot which is awful in a vehicle. Only fighting Thresher Maw was a bit fun. Plus if I remember correctly, the Mako would also do some stupid overturnings if one of its oversized wheels crashed into a trashcan.
Hammerhead may be lightly armored, but driving it is definitly more fun to me than clumsy old mako. Why complain about levels which are done extra for it? Breaks immersion I hear, well there's a hundred things that make no sense but gameplay-wise these are good.
Combat? I don't know why so many people complain about it. Sure, safest way here is also hide-and-shoot. And even rocket targetting may be absurd at some times, but Hammerhead has the mobility to go up close and don't get hit. I agree, fighting turrets in DLC: Overlord is tedious. If BW made them rocket turrets, you could dance around them and use Hammerheads superior mobility. Luckily you can avoid most of them.
And why should you drive 10 minutes through a rocky nothing just to get to the mission and entertaining part? I don't see the point of that. So yeah I'm for designed vehicle missions instead of generic rock exploration. Overlord made a fine example of that in my opinion. There were places where you could go and watch the scenery, the geth-cannon was a fine piece of work and even jumping over lava like supermario was great.
As for the hovertaxi in LotSB, it didn't feel right. You had so many controls, but actually it didn't matter much. Just pressing boost all the time, but steering? The thing went up and down like on an invisible rail, but I never had the feeling I could influence it much. Glad it was just a short bit.
Spacebattles? Could be fine, if done right. However, if it results in static hide-and-shoot situations I would advise against it. If it's done, it should be highly dynamic, up close and personal.
Underwater exploration may sound fine, but after the second playthrough it gets boring. Where should the action be? Counting fish?
Overall it is my opinion that Mass Effect is an action-rpg, which does not center around crazy vehicles, but squad- and skillbased shooter-combat. So don't break your neck about customizable spacebuggys Bioware.
my two cents. <_<

[*]That's amazing! Love to see it in ME3! If not possible within release date...bundled it together with ME3 Enhanced Edition - free for all existing ME3 owners.mattahraw wrote...
[*]Space Fighter combat: People have been asking for this since before ME1 even came out. It would be epic. Totally awesome. Just play lots of Rogue Squadron, check out Halo:Reach's star fighter level, Star Fox, and Snoopy flying ace. Like this, but Mass Effect

Yes. A large part of my dislike for the hammerhead was because of this. If I could have savied it would not have been so very irritating and I would not have killed my entire crew on purpose as often from frustration. I also hated swoop racing.

Don't know if this has been posted or not, but I would love to see space battles, but as a cut scene where Joker fights against the reapers. Cut scenes are always more awesome than what we see when we control stuff ourselves.
That's a very, very common post. Lots of people want to be able to suggest via dialog to Joker where and how he should attack, but then the results are cutscenes, rather than controlling the normandy ourselves.

This was probably the number 1 complaint about the Hammerhead. People wouldn't have minded how easily it catches on fire if it autosaved more often.

To be fair, are you aware how many millions of dollars it costs to make a next gen game? It's amazing we got any free content for ME2 at all, and yet instead of being grateful for it, half the boards have this weird sense of entitlement.
DLC packs cost money to create and therefore will nearly always cost the consumer money to play them. We live in a capitalist society, that's how it works.

Back on topic though, if we're fighting Reapers as level bosses, surely vehicles must be involved? Or are we just going to have shepard shooting at a giant tentacle with his little pop gun?
Controlling surface to air turrets would be a great start.

So in ME3 are vehicles in or out has this been confirmed yet or they gonna wait till release day like ME2
No confirmation as yet. Although with gameplay variety as a dev goal, and the fact the boss fights will be massive (reapers), i'd say vehicles should at least get a look in.
I've been asking Casey about it on twitter, but so far haven't got a response. If anyone else would like to try asking him, i'd love to hear the response!
I'm at least certain that at least a couple of devs have spotted this thread though. It's been around for 11 months now.

If you look in the twitter thread a few pages back you'll see what I mean. I'd suggest waiting for E3 and if nothing comes of it then, we probably won't have any answers for a long time.

They've (not Hudson, but someone else; can't remember who offhand) actually replied recently with a general request that people stop asking them about it if they can help it and concentrate on other questions for the time being. This pretty blatantly tells us that they can't comment on it.

hmm, i'd love to see this if you or someone else can remember. If they can't comment it probably means 1 of 2 things: They haven't decided, or there's a reveal planned.

I personally think that no vehicle sequences, or if they do put them in, a couple of small incidents. I mean Mass Effect 1 was really broken up by the vehicle sections, something I found really annoying. I far preferred ME2 having no vehicles, it allowed them to focus on the combat, and it meant they had to find other ways to make things awesome. From the sound of it ME3 is already gonna have bits with the Atlas, that is already a vehicle section, and sounds fun and exciting. Stuffing the game with vehicle sections would just be irritating
What if they were sidequest only? Or skippable?
Perhaps Joker asks shepard to man the Normandy's turrets, and via dialog you can either accept or tell EDI to do it? That way you're not forced to do anything and we still get to have our fun.

Be slightly weird after Joker always gunned before now....
Anyway, it seems just as bad to stuff the game with different vehicles as it would be to force them before every mission.. There's already the Atlas mech, and before now the ME series has only had one vehicle per game, why need more? The game will already be broken up by the hacking minigames, they have said they're doing something with the mining section, it just seems unnecesary to put in even more vehicle sections

The problem was the mini-game of mineral exploration. You had to roam over the whole map to find 3 or 4 nodes on each planet you could lan on just to get some dubious achievement. If the minerals were actually used for something (like ezo) or gave you more money it would be fine.
There was one mission on a tropical planet that was like a Star Wars trench run. Absolutely beautiful.
Give me Mako with stupid stuff to do.
