Found these around on the nets, these are concepts for 1 man fighters from the 1st mass effect.

Shows you they have been considering space combat for a long while! I'd imagine shep would get something fancier looking than these though.

I like both the Hammerhead and the Mako. They're 2 different vehicles both with their deficiencies (though the Hammerhead has more).

You can find some of those fighters as static props on one of the N7 missions. And yeah, fighters play a role. But not one I want Commander Shepard taking.

That's fair enough, although I feel personally it's the other way round, I liked the HH more.

Yeah I've seen them about.

On Guardian systems and all that: Shep could easily get a new state of the art stealth fighter based on the Normandy's tech, thereby making him far less targetable on the battlefield. The interview that has a link in the OP to Casey saying they would like space combat gives me hope we'll get something special.

Whether or not it fits the lore of the series or shepard "should" be flying or any of that, it could be heaps of fun. If it's good gameplay, there are a million and 1 ways to get around codex lore. Just see the new ammo system for proof.

Those look cool.

i dont get why everyone gets so freaked at the idea of shepard flying a ship. hes not a real soldier. it doesnt matter if real spec ops cant fly, he's a space marine who can throw guys with his mind powers. real spec ops guys can't do that either.

if space combat is fun, who cares what he should or shouldnt be doing. theoretically a guy who died 2 years ago shouldn't be revivable, but hey they did that, so why should space combat be so subject to the laws of the real world?

Cluster munitions for at least one drivable vehicle, assuming you can pilot multiple vehicles.

But, regarding piloting a fighter, there's a problem: As much as I would *love* that, Shepard isn't a pilot.

Also, I actually loved the Mako's controls.  Once you get used to them, it becomes very useful, as you can strafe and circle a target while keeping your crosshairs on him at all times, just like a real tank.

I have to be honest, I would not like space combat.

Space combat would take me out of the zone so fast.

this thread is just great. I couldn't care less about space combat but the disscusion about the Hammerhead is great and many important subjects were shown. I hope Bioware can patch the Hammerhead's armor and rocket power already in ME2.

i also love the idea of spacewalking on a mass relay, I cant remember where i read that idea.

Spacewalking on a Mass Relay sounds really sweet!

There's space combat in SWTOR apparently, perhaps the teams can communicate about their experiences and give each other advice? I know people have their doubts, but I think space combat would really add to the ME universe. The tank vehicle adds so much and ME2 was worse off without some sort of vehicle. I just think when a fighter is added it'll be obvious how much it expands the scope of the story and world.

Shep isnt a pilot.
Even if they could retcon it so that he had training, or VI in the fighter helps him out, just...eh...i dont want

So, casey's interview saying they want space combat to be part of me:

and Space combat being part of KOTOR

http://kotaku.com/55...he-old-republic

looks like we could be in luck maybe? At least bioware will have some experince doing space combat before ME3 comes out.

Yeah, there's been quite a few posts here or there saying the same thing. Perhaps ME will have space combat, perhaps it won't... Only time will tell. I think it'd be a cool addition to the franchise, hopefully in ME3, but if not, at least down the road in a spin off perhaps?

While I wouldn't mind a re-making of the Mako or Hammerhead to make them a more interesting part of the game, I would not want to see space combat under any circumstances.

The reason? As others have stated, Shepard isn't a pilot. As far as the lore goes, it takes years of training in order to be able to fly these vessels reliably, and I would be hard pressed to believe that anyone--the alliance, cerberus, etc--would put such a valuable asset in such a vulnerable position.

Yeah i'd really love to see the ground vehicles re-intergrated into the main game with some really well written and creative missions. As i wrote in the OP, mission variety needs work.

I don't think shep "not being trained" will stop the devs if they want combat. It doesn't say anywhere whether shepard is or isn't trained in flight anyway, so technically he could be trained as a pilot and we just haven't realized it yet.

we don't know whether he is or isnt trained, theres no information on it.

but, real world modern spec ops soldiers are trained in the use of field vehicles they may have a reasonable chance of needing in the heat of things. In the real world, that means land vehicles.

in sci fi, if your main operating field is space, it would make sense to have your spec ops guys trained in flight. at least basic shuttle and fighter control. you'd be pretty dumb sending a team of 3 specialists onto a space station without one of them knowing basic flight training in case of emergencys.

i'm not saying he's joker or anything, but it makes total sense that shep would have basic space flight training, his main operating field is space.

eh, I think people are reading too much into it. it's a sci fi game, if they want shep to be a pilot, he'll be a pilot.

realism really isn't a factor in the ME series. Perhaps faux-realism but even then it's very flexible, which is good.

none whatsoever?

ME2 had none whatsoever (disregarding dlc) and I think the game was worse off without it.

Rather than ditching it I think it just needs some work, is all. Look how much they improved the 3rd person shooter mechanics. They could totally improve vehicles that much too if they wanted to.

Prediction #1: Due to the large amount of scorn for the Mako, it will NOT be in ME3

Prediction #2: Due to the even larger amount of
scorn for the HH, it will NOT be in ME3:D(oh happy day!)

Prediction #3: There will be a space ship to fly and fight

and the final prediction is : that, sadly, Bioware will screw it up at least as bad, or worse than, the hh:(

Nah, if they do it, they'll do it right. They're a super talented team, just the last 2 games vehicles have been a bit of an afterthought. Now they've got the combat mechanics down pat they can focus a little bit on the vehicle sections and get it right, i hope!
