Of course, it can't ever last - for whatever reason - but depending on your origin you can start the game with feelings for/in a relationship with one of several people: Cullen, Jowan, Tamlen, Gorim (Posted Image), Nelaros, or Nesiara. There are the one night stands like Mardy, Teli, Iona, or Dairren. And then, of course, there's the not actually validated but certainly RP-able Leske and Gilmore. And let's not forget Duncan who you can outright proposition as a HN and I've heard there's something for mages, too.

Which origin romance do you prefer and why?

My favorite origin romances/friends are Tamlen and Gorim. In the origin stories themselves: I love Gorim's steadfast love/loyalty, which seems to be sincere, despite that dwarven honor seems to be mostly a game. I love Tamlen's recklessness, which my own character innocently mistakes for courage. Later in the game: let's just say few people in the game inspire the range of conflicting emotions that Gorim does, imo... And Tamlen's fate chokes me up every time I think about it.

You do know what a platonic romance is right?

Edit: And Gorim in the case of favorite origin fling.

Edit 2: Why? Well, I dislike Tamlen and find Cullen creepy. I don't count Jowan or Leske. And you hardly get to know your betrothed in the CE origin.

I thought Dairren added some raciness and then some poignancy to the HNF origin. Then there was steadfast Gilmore a chunky looker and true hero. I was shocked at the picture from Fort Drakon. It is him, is it not? Power to Bioware purveyors of true dark fantasy...

Yes, the thing about him seeing you as an abomination best put to death sort of makes me walk away slowly and leave the same room he is in.

I'm a sucker for angsty romances so Cullen is a big yes for me. This is how I imagine my mage and Cullen's relationship to go down - http://social.biowar...7/index/2840244

I didn't even know Tamlen could be romanced. I had to Dragon wikia it to see if it's true. I *really* didn't know that.. and it's mildly making me want to do yet another Dalish play through. >.>

I think my favourite was a City Elf female betothed to be romance, though. I mean, granted.. you don't actually get to know him much at all, but it gives your city elf such a good role playing experience if you play her as wanting to get married.

My city elf was heart broken to see him butchered before her eyes, and didn't take the wedding ring off till around the Landsmeet.

My favorite Origin romance was Gorim. Something poignant and sweet to grow out of the shark tank that is Orzammar politics. It would never have lasted but it was still unbelievably sweet while it was happening. That final scene with him in the cell prior to exile had me in tears.

For me though they have their appeals none of the other flirtations even came close. With the Gilmore Mod I imagine he will be interesting to romance though (and you can have played it as something you flirted with in the past as well).

yes Maria, even Immortal believes thats Gilmore in Fort Drakon (he even has a funny line about it if he comes to rescue the PC from their cell). If you look closely Mother Mallol's corpse is there with his. Could be recycled faces...but then BOTH of them there is too big a coincidence.

Is the Gilmore mod actually completed? If it is I so want to give it a try for my next playthrough.

Those were all horribly depressing, and I was having such a nice day, too.

Anyway, my favorite fling is Iona (she was soooo cute ), I only wish we could've saved her or at the very least told her daughter about what happened (and maybe take her on as an apprentice in the epilogue or share some or our wealth with her). I also wish we could have told Jory about what happened in Highever. I was able to tell him I was the Teryn's son, but not that everyone there was slaughtered.

Tamlen, of course!  But only because I've written about him for this past playthrough.  I also felt the loss of Nelaros for my city elf character.  Even if they had only just met, the fact that he died for her made an impression and she wore his ring throughout the game.  I also liked Gorim in the origin, even though I haven't completed a dwarf playthrough.

But yeah, Tamlen.  :crying:

Does the elf that we get to bed in HN count? You know, the elf that has a little girl and who could have survived the massacre even if it wasn't for the HN deciding he / she loves milfs?

Not unless you know that her name is Iona in which case, yes she is on the list. Posted Image

Huh. So I got a mother killed because I just wanted to have fun and I didn't even have the courtesy to remember her name....I still got it ;)

So I've been thinking about it and I really like this description of it. I have a hard time explaining why I Posted Image that mini-romance so much and I think that that's it. The way I see it, the DN could really only trust him and her father who, as King, had no reason to betray his favorite child but of course it happened anyway (three times!) and so the fact that even if he had to move on he still stayed loyal to her, refused to acknowledge she was as much a princess as he was a warrior, and didn't blame her for his exile...that was very touching. I'll never be happy with how it ended but I understand the practicality of it and he was very practical (though I'm  not sure I could be so forgiving if he fell in love with her before he married her) and there probably never would have been a good way for it to end. Either he or she would have gotten married and Gorim made it clear that he wasn't going to be involved in an extramarital affair.

I think the mini romances definitely added more depth to the story. For instance, the first time I played a HN, I didn't know whoever you picked up would die. Thus I had poor Liam Cousland carrying around the guilt for Dairren's death in addition to the guilt he felt for abandoning his parents to Howe's hands. It added another dimension to his character and affected the way he approached the romance options in the game. Details like these are really great for the RPers out there.

There's also Merrill, I think all of the origins had some sort of romantic involvement with an NPC.

Highever is a territory, not just a castle. It's very probably Jory's wife lived in one of the many towns or such, not at Highever castle itself. Jory was a Redcliffe knight originally from Highever, not one of Teryn Cousland's men.

Don't feel bad - she would've been killed if she were sleeping in another room anyway.

AND . . . even on my first play through when she says, "I'm going to look out in the hall," I shouted at the monitor, "No you idiot!  Let me suit up and go look."

Iona was dead no matter what man.  Either due to location or stupidity.  Who opens the door unarmed when suspected danger is inthe hall?  I don't even do thisin real life.

As to my thoughts on the mini romance - the only one I can speak to is Iona. And all I can say is when I found her daughter in the Alienage I had wished for a conversation in which I could take her to Eamon's castle to be cared for because I knew what happened to her mother.

But that was as involved as I got.

I've only played a female toon once. Makes me uncomfortable. Yes - I'm comfortable enough to admit that acting like a chick makes me squirm. I'm fine if other guys want to do it, but I'm not okay with doing it myself.

LOL this yes...I do the same thing every time.  Why do people in these things always do the exact opposite of what someone with a normal sense of self preservation would do?

Alas Iona died and I HATED that I couldn't help Amethyne in the Alienage.
