I also get a black screen when I try to talk to Shale. So, does anyone have a solution for this problem, or are we just going to have to live with this error every time I try to talk to Shale.
No, it was a bug that was found after release. Bioware is aware and is fixing the problem. Head over to the tech support forum to give them as much as info as possible, because this will help them.
Anyways, the fact is, many bugs never reveal themselves till after release, cause it is improbable for a developer to test and find all bugs without having the game delayed for several years just for bug testing. No developer would still be in business if they had to make sure it is bug free.
You can test for years and still have bugs. There is a reason why it's called a bug. Certain bugs can survive nuclear winter.

did the shale thing mentioned (ie went into degub) - went to the village then re-hired shale (which sorted the shale chat issue out !) then forced the soldiers peak degub as well - ie got it to take me to the first entrance.... which allowed me to do the mission and now its on the map and all sorted.... even i managed to work it out...
as for bugs.... didnt he eat carrots ?
good luck..

Enable the dev console
~
runscript zz_shl_debug
Enable all the flags
Didn't lose anything and he talks to me again without warping me outside the map.

How is it that with Video Games now 30+ years old, people like yourself can not understand the most basic aspects of programing and debuggin code?
well please prey tell? is it because most of us arent computer nerds?Just because you have a particular bug does not mean that everyone is experiencing the same problem. Some people are, and some people are not.
Where did i claim that everyone is experiencing the same problem? You see I mostly care about my own. I wouldnt be here complaining about someone elses problems, that would be as stupid as hanging hanging out here defending the bugs...No testing lab in the world can replace real world users for finding code issues.
Oh! I guess it's allright then...thank your bioware for letting me test your game for bugsBut complaining about a bug, yelling and screaming and generally acting alike an ass will always get you exactly the same result online as it will offline. Ignored at best, or put in your place at worst.
dunno if you been there, but in the real world it's almost always the yelling and screaming customer that gets the best deal, the quiet and timid are run over
Bioware are professionals, and should not be making this much mistakes, one or two would be ok, but hell this game is bugged all out
